Presentation Notes
The purpose of publishing is to communicate. Whether or not one does it effectively depends on many factors, poor choice of tools (in this case, typefaces) can cloud the message by e.g. barraging us with unnecessary information. (The picture shows a clip from a newspaper c.a. 1860 where 7 different fonts were used for a shoe ad.)

Nothing seem to have changed with times. Moshpit of type in a newspaper ads c.a. 1860 doesn’t seem to be too different from this webpage.

Advanced features for refined typography

Presenter
Presentation Notes
Ligatures, alternative number styles, real small caps and swashes and contextual alternates – these are the tools that publishers have been using throughout the history of printed word. And they are accustomed to the fact that every single copy that comes out of a printing press looks identical and 100% true to their original design. This is something we need and can work on.

And type design for on-screen use presents its own, unique challenges. This is why we are releasing a new series of E-text typefaces that represent adaptations of many popular book faces such as Bembo Book (shown on this picture in comparison with Bembo E to demonstrate adjustments to weight, proportions and spacing)
