the kids. And did I mention plenty of social events for the adults. It is a holiday weekend- so plan to bring the whole family for a Porsche Memorial day in 2013. Don’t forget the Driver’s Ed associated with this Zonefest. This is an activity usually associated with Porsche Parade and 6 or 7 stand alone events each year. It has been a while since a Driver’s Ed was associated with the Zonefest weekend. For those of you who have never tried a Driver’s Ed, it is an opportunity to drive your Porsche on a race track at speeds that make both you and your Porsche feel good. We will be trying a few new things to get the ladies on track this time too. For those of you who are new to the activity, you will drive your car with an instructor in the right seat to guide you. The focus is on keeping you and your instructor safe and having fun. Did I say HAVING FUN! In the end you will be a better driver, have a new appreciation for your car and have a huge smile that will take days to fade. For you track junkies don’t miss lots of track time. Register now at ClubRegistration. Net. This Zonefest weekend really does have a little of everything. If you normally attend PCA socials, but not many driving events consider checking out the autocross, rally, and DE as well as the socials. If you are a track junkie and could use the Memorial Monday DE fix while including the family in a weekend, try checking out the socials and meet some new Porsche friends. If you haven’t registered, and made your room reservation today is the day. Don’t wait too long; the Chateau Elan already has half of the blocked out rooms reserved for the event plus there is another club on the track that weekend! If you would like to volunteer, Zonefest would be a great event to join in the fun, we could use your help! If you have already volunteered, thanks and let’s keep things going! See you next month at Zonefest in Sebring.

Have you made your plans to attend 2013 Zonefest- May 24- 27? It is coming up next month. It is our pleasure to host 2013 Zonefest this year as it will celebrate our 50th Anniversary as a region. I recently received copies of the conceptual letter from March of 1961 that facilitated the creation of Gold Coast Region PCA through to

the application letter in November of 1963 which formalized the Gold Coast as a “Chartered PCA Region”. In these letters I learned how these former, (and even some current) Porsche enthusiasts consistently developed what is the foundation of Gold Coast Region PCA as we know it today. These letters will be on display at the 2013 Zonefest at Sebring Raceway and Chateau Elan. I am excited to share this piece of history and a Gold Coast Region milestone with you, our members. This club of car enthusiasts has been around providing activities and opportunities to meet friends and enjoy our cars for 50 years, with actual formation of the region occurring in November of 1963. Zonefest is a PCA zone 12 multi-event weekend. What that means is there are many things to do. It will be like a mini PCA Parade. There are lots of exciting things in the works for this Memorial Day weekend. Since Memorial weekend is traditionally a family weekend, Gold Coast has worked hard to create a weekend that encompasses the WHOLE family, not just the PCA car enthusiast. The weekend is planned to be at Sebring and the Chateau Elan which is centrally located in Zone 12. We have rooms blocked out at a discounted rate for our members and this event. Don’t delay and miss the discounted rates. The weekend will include something for every Porsche enthusiast and for those who may just want to relax in the company of many friends, some of whom you may have yet to meet. The weekend will include; a Concours, for those Porsche enthusiasts who like to show off the finer points of an amazing machine, a fun gimmick Rally, to test your directional skills as well as teamwork (and marriage), a tech quiz for all of us technical geeks who insist on knowing every little detail, an autocross to test your car handling skills, and a Driver’s Ed with a few new twists to improve your driving performance and enjoy your Porsche the way it was intended to be driven. And of course socializing, lots of socializing….kegs, cocktails, dinners, banquets. As I mentioned, our Zonefest this year will encompass the WHOLE family, because most of our activities have parallel events for adults and kids alike. I didn’t want to spoil the surprise, but I just have to let you in on everything. While the adults are enjoying the Concours, the kids will enjoy a corresponding activity of painting their own “concours car” for judging. When the adults are enjoying the autocross, parallel competitions for the kids with remote control Porsche autocross will be in progress, an alternate walking “hidden picture” rally in the City of Murals will be available for those that don’t want to participate in the Gimmick Rally and finally for the older kids, there will be a tech quiz on corner flag identification. And I would be remiss if I did not mention the Ice cream social- design your own sundaes- for all

50 Years of the Porsche 911For five decades, the 911 has been the heart of the Porsche brand. Few other automobiles in the world can look back on such a long tradition and with such genuine continuity as the Porsche 911. It has been inspiring car enthusiasts the world over since its debut as the Type 901 at the IAA International Automotive Show in September 1963. Today it is considered the quintessential sports car, the benchmark for all others. The 911 is also the central point of reference for all other Porsche series. From the Cayenne to the Panamera, every Porsche is the most sporting automobile in its category, and each one carries a piece of the 911 philosophy.

More than 820,000 Porsche 911s have been built, making it one of the most successful sports cars in the world. For each of its seven generations the engineers in Zuffenhausen and Weissach have reinvented it, time and time again demonstrating to the world the innovative power of the Porsche brand. Like no other vehicle, the 911 reconciles apparent contradictions such as sportiness and everyday practicality, tradition and innovation, exclusivity and social acceptance, design and functionality. It is no wonder that each generation has written its own personal success story. Ferry Porsche best described its unique qualities: “The 911 is the only car you could drive on an African safari or at Le Mans, to the theater or through New York City traffic.”

In addition to its classic yet unique lines, the Porsche 911 has always been distinguished by its advanced technology. Many of the ideas and technologies that made their debut in the Porsche 911 were conceived on the race track. The 911 was committed to the performance principle from the start, and motor racing is its most important test lab. From the very beginning it has been at home on circuits all over the world, earning a reputation as a versatile and dependable winner. Indeed, a good two thirds of Porsche’s 30,000 race victories to date were notched up by the 911.

How Porsche celebrates the anniversary

For Porsche, the 50th anniversary of this iconic sports car is the central theme of 2013. There will be a wide variety of anniversary events, starting with the “Retro Classics” automobile show in Stuttgart. From March 7-10 the Porsche Museum will ring in the anniversary year with four special exhibits: an early-model 911 Turbo Coupe, a 911 Cabriolet study from 1981, a 1997 street version 911 GT1 and the pre-series Type 754 T7. This chassis by Professor Ferdinand Alexander Porsche was a milestone on the way to the 911 design.

The company is also sending an authentic 1967 model 911 on a world tour. Over the course of the year, this vintage 911 will travel to five continents where it will be shown in places like Pebble Beach, Calif., Shanghai, Goodwood, U.K., Paris and Australia. As an ambassador for the Porsche brand, this vintage 911 will be in attendance at many international fairs, historical rallies and motor sport events. Fans and interested individuals can follow the car’s progress at http://porsche.com/follow-911.

The Porsche Museum is celebrating “50 years of the Porsche 911” from June 4 - Sept. 29, 2013, with a special exhibition featuring the history and development of the 911. In the spring the museum’s own publishing house, Edition Porsche-Museum, will publish an anniversary edition entitled “911x911.”

The generations

The First 911 (1963) - Birth of a Legend

As the successor to the Porsche 356, the 911 won the hearts of sports car enthusiasts from the outset. The prototype was first unveiled at the Frankfurt IAA Motor Show in 1963 as the 901, and renamed the 911 for its market launch in 1964. Its air-cooled six-cylinder boxer engine delivered 130 hp, giving it an impressive top speed

of 131 mph. If you wanted to take things a little slower, starting in 1965 you could also opt for the four-cylinder Porsche 912. In 1966 Porsche presented the 160 hp 911 S, which was the first to feature forged alloy wheels from Fuchs. The 911 Targa, with its distinctive stainless steel roll bar, made its debut in late 1966 as the world’s first ever safety cabriolet. The semiautomatic Sportomatic four-speed transmission joined the lineup in 1967. With the 911T of the same year, and the later E and S variants, Porsche became the first German manufacturer to comply with strict US exhaust emission control regulations. The Porsche 911 became more and more powerful as displacement increased, initially to 2.2 liters (1969) and later to 2.4 (1971). The 911 Carrera RS 2.7 of 1972 with 210 hp engine and weighing less than 1000 kg remains the epitome of a dream car to this day. Its characteristic “ducktail” was the world’s first rear spoiler on a production vehicle.

The G-Series (1973) - The Second Generation

Ten years after its premiere, the engineers at Porsche gave the 911 its first thorough makeover. The G model was produced from 1973 to 1989, longer than any other 911 generation. It featured prominent bellows bumpers, an innovation designed to meet the latest crash test standards in the United States. Occupant protection was further improved by three-point safety belts as standard equipment, as well as integrated headrests. One of the most important milestones in the 911 saga was the 1974 unveiling of the first Porsche 911 Turbo with a three-liter 260 hp engine and enormous rear spoiler. With its unique blend of luxury and performance, the Turbo became synonymous with the Porsche mystique. The next performance jump came in 1977 with the intercooler-equipped 911 Turbo 3.3. At 300 hp it was the best in its class. In 1983 the naturally aspirated 911 Carrera superseded the SC; with a 3.2 liter 231 hp engine, it became a favorite collectors’ item. Starting in 1982, fresh air enthusiasts could also order the 911 as a Cabriolet. The 911 Carrera

Speedster, launched in 1989, was evocative of the legendary 356 of the fifties.

The 964 (1988) - Classic Modern

Just when automotive experts were predicting the imminent end of an era, in 1988 Porsche came out with the 911 Carrera 4 (964). After 15 years of production, the 911 platform was radically renewed with 85 percent new components, giving Porsche a modern and sustainable vehicle. Its air-cooled 3.6 liter boxer engine delivered 250 hp. Externally, the 964 differed from its predecessors only slightly, in its aerodynamic polyurethane bumpers and automatically extending rear spoiler, but internally it was almost completely different. The new model was designed to captivate drivers not only with sporty performance but also with enhanced comfort. It came with ABS, Tiptronic, power steering, and airbags, and rode on a completely redesigned chassis with light alloy control arms and coil springs instead of the previous torsion-bar suspension. A

revolutionary member of the new 911 line right from the start was the all-wheel drive Carrera 4 model. In addition to Carrera Coupé, Cabriolet and Targa versions, starting in 1990 customers could also order the 964 Turbo. Initially powered by the proven 3.3 liter boxer engine, in 1992 the Turbo was upgraded to a more powerful 360 hp 3.6 liter power plant. Today, the 964 Carrera RS, 911 Turbo S, and 911 Carrera 2 Speedster are in particularly high demand among collectors.

Dinner towards the end of the year. This will be a very special event where we celebrate our rich history over the past 50 years.

Many of our members have told us how much they enjoy the drive and dine events where we drive our Porsches to a nice restaurant located in South Florida. Our social team is busy planning more locations to expand these events. If you know of a special location or other types of events that would be of interest please let our social team or a board member know.

We started a “From the Member” section several years ago for the members to send an article about a Porsche related event that they wanted to share with the members. If you just attended your first Autocross, DE, or any other event that you would like to share, please e-mail the article and pictures if you have them to me. These articles have been very popular to share your experience with other members. Thank you for your support that may help others to enjoy what the club has to offer.

Hope to see you all at the Spring Fling,

Roger

PCA CLUB RACING

48 Hours at Sebring Presented by Champion Porsche

As you may know, froAm the many past articles, and general buzz about it, every year in early February, the PCA Club Racing community descends on Sebring Florida. The scale and scope of this event has been written about many times in the past, including a few articles by yours truly. Unofficially this is the largest Club Race in the world. Unofficially because no one really knows what goes on in the “whole world” but we hold our own in the known world. We annually have the most cars and drivers registered in any Club Racing event. This year counting the Racers and the Advance Solo Drivers the number was 420. That is an unbelievable number. So every year, In follow up articles, we have discussed the numbers. One look over the paddock at the sea of transporters, trailers and race cars tells most of that tale. The tale I would like to tell here is a very different one. It is the one about the fearlessness and foresight of the 48Hours Committee. The story about the innovative ideas and the confidence to try new things that has been part of this event since the beginning. This being the 20th Anniversary of the event there was lots of discussion about how to make it special. We could do flags, banners and memorabilia, maybe even some commemorative coffee cups. Umm …how about, no. Clear minds began to speak up on the committee. Who cares? Really, of course WE care, the Committee cares. The fact that this is the TWENTY YEAR ANNIVERSARY is absolutely amazing! However I seriously doubt that even one driver from Montana or Connecticut was going to say “Man this is the 20th Anniversary of the 48Hours at Sebring, I think I’ll go!”.

Our focus quickly came back to “How DO we make it so special every year?” We have always been focused on how to enhance the experience for the Drivers and their guests. Innovation has always been the M/O of the Sebring Club Race; we set the bar for every other Club Race in America.

How do we best spend our time and energy to do it again?

Enter the age of Technology.

We have watched as the cars we drive have been transformed, for better or worse by technology. Porsche just announced that the GT3 will no longer be offered with a clutch pedal.

Our event too has been, and will be, shaped by technology. We, the 48 Hours Committee, have made a serious commitment to us-ing technology to further enhance the event.

Enter Laz.

Laz Ortega has been the techno guru for the Gold Coast region for the past few years. We invited Laz to join the 48 Hours Com-mittee to take us into the future. His considerable time and effort

backed up by his knowledge and experience opened new doors. Things like Live Timing and Scoring, Live Streaming Video and a Live Blog are things that we couldn’t conceive of just a few years ago. Yet they are the reality, the opportunity that we find ourselves offered right now.

Until recently Jerry Daily has handled the techno stuff and done a great job but Jerry wears several hats for this event, including be-ing Volunteer Coordinator (big). We have dabbled with live video in the past, bringing Laz on board to help Jerry and take this thing into the future seems to have been a really good idea.

Now I will be the first to admit that I am not the most tech savvy guy out there…. Hey my car still has carburetors! So in the words of Jerry and Laz here is what we got:This year the 48 hours at Sebring committee invested in an up-grade to the internet live video streaming capabilities of our site.

Last year, live video streaming was accomplished using iPhone’s and the Free UStream (http://www.ustream.tv) Content Delivery Network. This approach worked, however, limited video quality and the occasional phone call encouraged us to try and upgrade the video feeds to the Porsche Club Race community.

The committee decided to utilize dedicated wi-fi enabled video en-coders coupled to the GoPro cameras HDMI output for higher resolution. A dedicated Content Delivery Network (http://www.livestream.com) was used for the video streams to the 48hoursatse-bring.com web site. These new dedicated video encoders stream the video signal via wi-fi or an optional USB 3G/4G Modem.

Pilot programs always have issues and the signal strength at Sebring International Raceway proved to be a challenge. Numer-ous wi-fi towers at the track where off-line and the internal USB port to 3G/4G modem option lacked the necessary signal strength to successfully transmit video feeds. Gold Coast member and Vice President Ed Kohly who volunteered his Verizone Mobile Hotspot saved the effort.

Our focus this year was to provide two high quality in car live video feeds and occasional iPhone streams of various events. Lim-ited to just one Mobile Hotspot we successfully aired TPC Racing GT3 Cup Car #36 driven by Michael Levitas. Video footage of the Champion pace car is available as well. The videos can be viewed at the following location: http://www.48hoursatsebring.com/Videos.aspx

In addition to the live video feeds, a live blog of the event was available thanks to Roger Johnson. You can catch the replay of the blog at the following location: http://www.48hoursatsebring.com/LiveBlog.aspx

For the period between Jan 31, 2-13 and Feb 3, 2013 the 48 hours at Sebring website experienced a total of 2,786 visits with 1,586 unique visitors and 10,415 page views, 49% of the visits where

12 Die Porsche Kassette | April 2013

from new visitors and 75% of the traffic flowed thru the live video and live blog pages.

Next year we expect to improve our signal strength capabili-ties and provide you with more comprehensive race coverage and the ability to view live race timing results as well via http://www.48hoursatsebring.com/LiveTiming.aspx.

Any questions? I didn’t think so.

Enjoy your Porsches and see you in February.

Nestled on the shores of Lake Michigan and the Grand Traverse Bay, the Grand Traverse Resort and Spa will host our fun-filled 58th Porsche Parade this summer: June 23 through 29, 2013. With 900 acres of rolling greens, woodlands and waterfront, a multitude of vineyards, orchards and coastal roadways nearby, there is much to see, much to do, and much to enjoy! The Porsche Parade is the PCA’s annual convention. It is a week-long extravaganza of car events, tech sessions, social events and FUN. Whether you like to autocross, rally, tour or, Concours, there is plenty to do and see. Attendance is roughly 2000 people, most of whom arrive in their beautiful and much loved Porsche automobile. The Parade is a great family vacation, and the Traverse City area has a wide variety of kid-friendly activities. You must register in advance for Parade as there is no onsite signup. Registration opens March 12th. There will be a link to register on www.pca.org and parade2013.pca.org.

CompetitionParade has four competitive events each year:The Porsche Concours d’Elegance gets started early on Monday, June 24th on the beautiful fairways of the Grand Traverse Resort. Whether you are an experienced Concours participant, a first time entrant, or a volunteer, there is an opportunity for every Parade entrant to get involved in this prestigious event. The Concours d’Elegance is not just about the competition, it’s about getting involved and participating with others who share a common appreciation for the Porsche marque. New this year! The Concours will include a “street” class for those who want to show their cars, but on more of an entry level. In the new street class, only the interior and exterior, including wheels and tires, will be judged. The Mobil TSD Rally on Tuesday June 25th takes us in and around the beautiful vineyards, orchards, forests and dunes of the area in a rally that’s sure to be remembered. The Michelin Autocross is on Wednesday and Thursday, June 26 and 27 at the nearby Antrim County Airport. With the Parade team promising a challenging old-school runway autocross, this is sure to be a fun event. The Technical/Historical Quiz will be presented to those who dare on the morning of Friday, June 28. Entrants will be tested on their knowledge of general Porsche interests, mechanical details, and the historical aspects of the Porsche family, business, and the ever-growing line of models and variants. Be sure to study for a top score or just show up to see what you think you know. Source materials for studying will be available on the Parade website as the date draws near.

BanquetsAs we say in PCA, it’s not just the cars, it’s the food! We host five banquets during the week at the resort. We also have two “open” nights for you to sample the local fare of Traverse City. Other activitiesYou can’t do it all! We have activities for kids and teens, an Art Show, Goodie Store, a 5K run/walk, a Gimmick Rally, an RC contest, and our local Tourmeister has assembled several driving and van/motorcoach tours to show us the beauty and

interesting locations around the Grand Traverse Bay area of Upper Michigan. We end the week with a true Parade of Porsches through the east side of Traverse City and up Old Mission Peninsula. The Parade Tech Academy will be held Friday, June 28th, and once again, we have an exciting mix of our outstanding PCA Technical Committee and outside speakers. Michelin hosts a “drive and compare” where you can take laps in two identical Porsches, with two different types of tires. We will have a golf tournament on The Bear golf course at the resort, host to the state’s oldest and most prestigious tournament, the Michigan Open Championship from 1985 through 2008.

LodgingThe Grand Traverse Resort and Spa is our host hotel, and can accommodate all Parade goers. The resort properties range from beachfront condos in a variety of configurations, to the centrally located hotel & tower rooms. Special PCA rates will be available; upon registration you will receive an authorization code to access these rates. Entrant Eligibility and FeesYou must be a PCA member to register for Parade and only registered attendees may participate in Parade activities. Entrants and co-entrants must be PCA members, but they need not be family or affiliate members. Automobile eligibility for the Autocross, Concours and TSD Rally is outlined in the Parade Competition Rules (PCRs) available on the pca.org website. An entrant and/or co-entrant may enter up to two automobiles (thus separate cars for the Concours, rally, and autocross), and only Porsches as defined in the PCRs may be registered. Entrants may participate in other events (such as tours or gimmick rally) in any automobile, even if it is not a Porsche.Everyone signing up for Parade must pay an entrant fee of $159, which covers the entrant and co-entrant. JPP (Junior Participant Program) entrants are the sons, daughters, nieces, nephews and grandchildren of PCA members who are 16 or 17 years old. CAFP (College-Aged Family Program) entrants are the sons, daughters, nieces, nephews and grandchildren of PCA members who are 18-25 years old. Other guests are welcome, however, only the entrant, co-entrant and JPP/CAFP entrants may enter the competitive events (except children ages 13-15 may register for the Tech Quiz). If other guests are PCA Members, they must submit their own registration and pay their own registration fee to enter the competitive events. Additional fees apply for banquet tickets and selected other activities. Questions? If you have questions regarding Parade, please consult the Parade website at parade2013.pca.org. If you are unable to find your answer there, email Kathleen Behrens, Parade Registrar at [email protected] or call 503.579.3423 (please leave a message).

Tech Corner: The Bad, the Ugly and the Good

Part 1

If you own a Boxster, a Cayman, or a water-cooled Carrera up through model year 2008 (inclusive), this should interest you.

I’ll try to dispel the myths from the facts and tell it to you straight, as we believe it to be true. First read through the bad and the ugly; you need to understand it, but I promise there’s a good as well at the end.

THE BAD:

• All M96 and M97 engines have an intermediate shaft, supported by bearings on both ends. A small (but important) percentage of these cars are known to have issues with the intermediate shaft (IMS) bearing nearest the flywheel. This end of the IMS, in contrast to the other end does not receive pressure fed oil for lubrication, hence the failures.

• The list of the M96/M97 shod cars includes all Boxsters (’97 - ’08), all Caymans (’06 -’08) and all Carreras (’99 -’08) - except the Turbo, the GT2 and the GT3 which share the old air-cooled engine design based on the 964 engine case.• These IMS bearings have been known to fail with as little as 5,000 miles while at the same time there are vehicles with 250,000 plus miles still on the original bearing.• Porsche made the first revision of the IMS bearing in model year 2000 going from a double-row bearing in the earlier models to a single-row bearing.

• Porsche made the second revision of the IMS bearing in model year 2006 going to a much larger single-row bearing.• The single-row shod cars (’01 – ‘05) have the highest failure rates.• All of the three IMS bearings Porsche installed in the M96 and M97 engines have been known to fail.• The double-row and single-row (up to ’06) can be extracted and replaced without having to remove the engine from the car, just the transmission.• The larger single-row (’06-’08) cannot be extracted from the engine without removing the engine and opening the engine case.

Page 27: Die Porsche Kassette - Apr 2013

Article by Pedro P. Bonilla, Tech Editor

Tech Corner: The Bad, the Ugly and the Good

• Porsche has never acknowledged that there was an issue with the IMS bearing and its design, but for model year 2009 the factory introduced a brand new engine, the MA1, which does not have an intermediate shaft (IMS) nor the IMS bearing.• Cars that are driven regularly and driven hard have less IMS bearing failures that those that are babied and sit in a garage or are not tracked or driven spiritedly.• If the IMS bearing fails the most likely result is catastrophic engine failure.• The intermediate shaft (IMS) bearing in all of these cars needs to be treated as a wear item, replaced roughly every 50,000 miles.• Every time you replace the clutch (or drop the transmission) it is recommended that you check/replace the IMS bearing.

THE UGLY:

What’s the percentage of failure? On the model years 2000 through 2005 (which use the smaller, single-row IMS bearing and have the worst track record) the failure rate is accepted at nearly 10% of all cars by the time they reach 100,000 miles.

Why do these bearings fail?

The simple answer is lack of proper lubrication.Porsche installed these IMS bearings completely sealed with lifetime grease. With time, heat and a little splash of rancid oil found inside the IMS, the grease dissolves and the bearing dries out. Very soon thereafter it starts to overheat and starts to wear the race and or the balls, eventually leading to catastrophic failure. The opposite side of the IMS is also supported by a bearing which is constantly lubricated with a stream of oil from one of the oil pumps. This bearing has never been known to fail.

What can be done? There are several manufacturers that offer replacement aftermarket IMS bearings (including ceramic ball bearings).I want to let it be known that replacing the IMS bearing does not cure the problem, it just treats the symptom, like a (temporary) pain killer. These aftermarket bearings (including the stronger and more efficient ceramic-ball types) are also recommended to be replaced every 50,000 miles and also have been known to fail as well.

THE GOOD:

To get to the good part, and it’s REALLY good, please check out the next issue where we will explain about the FINAL (and affordable) IMS bearing solution.

Open clams and remove shells; reserve juice. Chop clams and put in a bowl. Stir in eggs, ½ cup reserved clam liquid, corn meal, flour and salt. Aunt Becky’s Deviled Crab

1 lb. crab claw meat 1 Tbsp. prepared mustard2 eggs, beaten 1 Tbsp. catsup4 to 7 oz. chopped pimentos, 3 Tbsp. mayonnaise drained 1 Tbsp. lemon juice1 stick melted butter Worcestershire, Tabasco,1 sleeve saltine crackers garlic powder to taste2 Tbsp. cream or condensed milk

Reserving ½ of the melted butter, mix ingredients well by hand. Place in crab shells or a 1½ quart baking dish. Brush the remaining butter over top. Bake at 375º for 30 minutes. I don’t know who Aunt Becky is, but this is without a doubt the best deviled crab recipe I have tried. I clipped this out of the newspaper five years ago. You can make them ahead of time, bake them and put them in freezer to be cooked in microwave at serving time and you can also prepare them and freeze them uncooked.
