A number of our William Brookes pupils attended their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh certificate presentation on Friday 25 January. In order to earn the Bronze award, pupils had to complete four sections of the programme. They are: Volunteering, Physical, Skills and Expedition. Each student had to do a minimum of three months activity for each section plus an additional three months for one of the three sections. For the expedition part, students had to do a two day (one night) expedition where they would plan and train for beforehand. CAREERS INTERVIEWS

Congratulations to Louix Tziortzis-Foskett, Year 11 (Athens 5) and

Moya Ralph-Jagger, Year 9 (Athens 3) who have both qualified for

the National Fencing Championships. They both came third in the West

Midlands Regional Championships last weekend which has earned them

a place in the Nationals. We wish them both good luck!

Any Year 11 who has not received an invite to the Apprenticeship Show,

in tutor trays, who is interested in attending this event, please could

you see Ms. Lovelace, available during break, lunchtime & after 15.15

in reception, to get one. Thank you.

STUDY SUPPORT SESSIONS

CHEMISTRY:

There is chemistry help on offer every Tuesday - Friday except for Thursdays when there is a parents evening. This is available to any student, any key stage. There is also lunch time help available by prior arrangement with individual teachers.

RELIGIOUS STUDIES:

Every Tuesday after school in Room 104, for both GCSE and A-Level students, there will be a support and revision session. You can be supported with completing homework, or we can help with revision.

BIOLOGY:

There will be a biology support group after school on Tuesdays and Wednesdays for KS4 & KS5 students needing help with homework, revision or any other information regarding the subject.

FRENCH:

GSCE French support sessions will be after school on a Tuesday and at lunch on a Thursday. Any KS4 students wanting any extra help with their language learning please drop in.

GCSE TEXTILES:

There will be Textiles GCSE help available on Monday from 15.10 – 16.45 and Wednesday 15.10 –16.45. These will take place every week until Monday 8 April.

CITIZENSHIP & PSYCHOLOGY:

GCSE Citizenship and A-Level Psychology revision and catch up will take place every Tuesday from 15.10 - 16.30 in Room 203 / 204.

WILLIAM BROOKES SCHOOL – PRIMARY SWIMMING GALA

Please note our William Brookes School Primary Swimming Gala is on Friday 8 February.

Six schools are taking part and will be arriving between 13.00 and 13.10 at the Leisure Centre entrance. The only school that won’t be using the Leisure Centre entrance is Much Wenlock Primary, who will be walking and come through back gate.

The Primary Swimming Gala will finish at 15.30 and parents have been asked to collect children at 15.45. Thank you!

BADMINTION NEWS

Congratulations to the U14s Girls Badminton team who represented East Shropshire in the county finals and came 2nd only losing 3 - 2 to the winners Newport Girls High who had won all their other matches 5 - 0.

They played the best they have ever played and it was a fantastic result against the county squad players from Newport. Well done to captain Katie Martin, Year 9 (Beijing 8) and her team mates Emily Green, Year 7 ( ), Izzy Birt, Year 8 (Beijing 6), Hannah Insley, Year 9 ( ) and Charlotte Tench, Year 8 (London 1).

Also, a massive well done to the U16 Boys Badminton team who came 2nd in the County Badminton tournament, losing to Adams Grammar in the final. Another fantastic result winning all their other matches 5-0! A big congrats to Kalam Welsby, Year 11 (Athens 3), Will Ross, Year 10 (Beijing 4), Ethan Perkins, Year 11 (Athens 2) and Adam Thomas, Year 10 ( ).

SHROPSHIRE NETBALL SQUAD

Congratulations to Freya Howes, Year 7 (London 8) who has been selected for U12 Shropshire Netball Squad.

Another well done to Flori Outram, Year 7 (Athens 5) who is first reserve for the squad and to Holly Plant, Year 7 (Beijing 5) who got through to the final trials and just missed out on selection. We are proud of all of you!
