/UR STUDENTS ACHIEVE OUTSTANDINGresults in both IGCSE and Advanced Level (A Level) courses. Cambridge University Examinations (CIE) and Edexel IGCSEs and A Levels are internationally recognised as being of a very high academic standard, and are welcomed by colleges and universities in both the US and the UK, as well as by most countries around the world.
/UR TEACHERS ARE WELL QUALIED ANDexperienced teachers of the IGCSE curriculum, who expertly guide and support our students learning. We have many foreign teachers who have considerable experience teaching Chinese students and many of them are also bilingual. We recognise that students transferring from middle schools need time to adjust to new courses and to new teaching styles, and we provide the support our students need during their transition.

Standardised Test PreparationWe provide a comprehensive and expansive suite of Test Preparation courses to prepare students for THE VARIOUS %NGLISH PROCIENCY ANDstandardized tests (e.g. IELTS, TOEFL and SAT) that they will need in order to apply to colleges and universities. Our courses are designed to be skills-based courses, which not only prepare students for the tests, but also develop the tested skills to improve their general English ability. Our Test Preparation courses are fully integrated with English classes so that the skills are reinforced regularly. University and College Counselling Our dedicated and experienced Counselling team, consisting of four foreign counsellors and one Chinese counsellor, is always available to ensure that our students receive personalised advice, support and guidance in preparing their applications for the next stage in their educational journey.
The Counselling curriculum provides our students with a great deal of knowledge about the university application processes in the United Kingdom, United States, Canada, and other countries. At Dulwich, we want every student to achieve his or her full potential. Therefore, our analyses of exam results focus on value ADDEDo3TUDENTSARETESTEDATTHESTARTOFour programmes and the results, alongside background data, are used by The Centre for Evaluation and Monitoring at Durham University (CEM) to predict how students will perform in IGCSEs and A levels. Years 10 & 11A well-balanced, personalised course providing the best foundation for future success.
We strongly recommend the Two Year Programme, as IGCSEs are designed to be taught over two years and that is how they are usually taught in the UK. Studying for the IGCSEs over two years gives students the chance to study more subjects and to have a wider subject choice. Students will be able to participate in a wider range of optional programmes, thus expanding their resumes and improving future college applications. In addition, students will have more time to develop their English and interpersonal skills to a higher level of PROCIENCY

This comprehensive course is designed to improve the communicative competence of students by providing a solid foundation in English grammar and language. The two-year course provides a stimulating and challenging curriculum, which focuses on the four English skills of reading, writing, speaking and listening, and builds up to the IGCSE English as a Second Language exam.

The First Language and Second Language Chinese courses are designed to ensure that our students continue to improve their Chinese language skills and cultural awareness. The courses allow students to experience a range of Chinese Literature and language and develop a more in-depth understanding of Chinese culture.

Course Aims and Content Mathematics develops logical rigour with creative and abstract thinking, as well as building the skills and frameworks that students need in order to understand the SCIENTICANDECONOMICTHEORIESTHEYMEETin other subjects.
We offer two mathematics courses in the Two Year IGCSE Programme. All students complete IGCSE Mathematics (0580). Most will then complete Additional Mathematics
WHILST THE REMAINDER WILL START TOprepare for AS Mathematics.
External AssessmentThe IGCSE Mathematics course is assessed in November of the second year by two exams, containing a mixture of long response and short response questions testing both mathematical knowledge and the ability to use and apply mathematics.
The IGCSE Additional Mathematics course is assessed in May of the second year and is comprised of two papers. Students who achieve excellent grades in Additional Mathematics and have demonstrated good study habits take an accelerated programme of A Level Mathematics in their AS year (Year WHICH THEN LEADS TO 3 OR &URTHER-ATHEMATICSIN9EAR

Students also participate in online enrichment activities and have an experiential approach to learning applied mathematics, for example by using dynamics equipment and data loggers. Dulwich students are skilled in using and applying mathematics in their other subjects at both school and university levels.
4HEEXIBLENATUREOFTHE$(3:MATHEMATICSIGCSE and A Level programmes allows students to specialise within mathematics and have a personalised programme of study suitable for their degree and career choices. A high proportion of our students will have completed at least AS Further Mathematics upon graduation, giving them A SIGNICANT HEAD START AT UNIVERSITY WHENstudying science, technology, engineering, MATHEMATICS NANCE AND OTHER RELATEDsubjects.
In addition to the examined courses, students enter several international competitions: the UK Senior Maths Challenge, (followed by the British Maths Olympiad for students who qualify,) the Canadian Euclid Contest, and the American Maths Contest. We also founded the High School Team Maths Contest, which attracts schools from all over China and other parts of the world.

The science courses at Dulwich emphasise DISCOVERY HANDSON LEARNING AND SCIENTICcommunication. All students follow a Science &OUNDATIONS COURSEUNTILPRIL OF THEIR RSTyear, before choosing to study either two or three science options at the IGCSE level.
It is not necessary to choose science options when joining the school. Students, with the guidance of their teachers, choose their science courses at a later POINT DURING THEIR RST YEAR AND MOSTstudents will choose to continue with two sciences at this point. Every science lesson is taught by a passionate scientist. Many of our science teachers have years of industrial experience in addition to educational expertise, allowing students to gain unique insights into the work of professional scientists.
Lessons take place in a fully equipped, custom-designed lab with small class sizes. Through the full range of experiments and investigations, the study of science is brought alive. Course Aims and ContentThe IGCSE Art course aims to teach students to develop their creative and imaginative skills through observational drawings and to use a range of materials and techniques.
)N THE RST YEAR STUDENTS WILL LEARN NEWtechniques and skills, and will use a range of different materials. They will learn how to work from observational drawings and be creative in experimenting and exploring different approaches in developing their WORKTONALPIECES4HEYWILLALSOSTUDYexamples of historical and modern artists from a variety of cultures.
In the second year, students will work on a personal project to further develop and expand their techniques and skills.

The Dulwich AdvantageThree large purpose-built and well equipped art rooms allow students to work with staff who are trained in a variety of Art techniques, using many different materials through different mediums including textiles, sculpture and pottery. Art is integrated into the Visual & Performing Arts Department and students are encouraged to show their work and assist with the designing and making of posters, booklets and exhibitions.
Art related ECAs include Photography and Trash Fashion, and students also have the opportunity to participate in international and local art competitions.
The doors of the Art Department are ALWAYSOPENTOSTUDENTSATSPECICTIMESafter school and during some weekends to enable students to improve the quality of their work and attend workshops. Gallery visits are encouraged and trips to Art College University presentations are run, while we also frequently host Art college DMISSIONS/FCERSINTHEDEPARTMENT
Students choosing this course should have both an interest and a proven aptitude for art. Students should have a willingness to experiment and be creative in their work.

It is strongly recommended that all students take part in both a physical recreation activity and a skills-based ECA every week, as here they are able to further develop soft skills that are so highly regarded by both universities and employers. Additionally, ECAs tie in directly to the requirements of the Duke of Edinburghs International Award.

The International Award is highly valued by leading universities and colleges around the world. The Award provides measurable evidence that the recipient is the kind of well-rounded student universities are seeking to recruit who will contribute positively to campus life. When writing their personal statements for universities in their AS year, students who reach the higher levels of the award will have much to write about.
When applying for jobs after graduation from college, the International Award provides a competitive advantage. It demonstrates teamwork, a commitment to helping others, a healthy lifestyle, and a willingness to learn new skills and keep developing.
The Award is split into three levels Bronze, Silver, and Gold and our IGCSE students start at the Bronze level. This involves three months of community service, three months of physical recreation, and six months of learning a skill. Students spend, on average, one hour per week on each of these three elements. Many of the requirements for this level can be met through the activities we offer in our ECA programme and through our Lifeskills curriculum.
To complete the Bronze level, students will also take part in an expedition, which involves hiking in unfamiliar
terrain over three days and camping overnight. Once they have completed the Bronze level, students progress to the Silver level. The school will keep a record of the skill and physical recreation activities done as part of our ECA programme, but students will need to keep individual records of community service hours completed outside of school hours.

1. What should I consider when making my choices?At the IGCSE level, interest in the subject is arguably the most important consideration.
For the vast majority of students, who wish to keep their options open, it is suggested that option choices are not kept too narrow. For example, students are advised against taking both IGCSE Music and IGCSE Art unless they have ASTRONGDESIREFORFURTHERSTUDYINTHESEELDSOur compulsory core of English, Maths, Science, Chinese, Drama & Lifeskills alongside almost any two optional subjects is a good preparation for A level study and future college application for most majors, however the following recommendations should be noted:
For students who are already clear about their preferred A level courses or major at University, it makes sense to choose related IGCSE courses. Accepted STUDENTS CAN CONTACT THE #OLLEGE #OUNSELLING OFCE FOR ADVICE ON THIS ASdifferent colleges have different requirements.
2. How do I submit my choices? Accepted students will receive the relevant form, and we encourage students to submit choices as early as possible. The school will endeavour to accommodate all choices submitted by 20th May. 4HENALDATE FORSUBMITTINGCHOICES IS27th May.
Note that for Art and Music, portfolios of work should be submitted alongside your choices.
3. Are all combinations of subjects possible? Most subject combinations are possible. If it is impossible to timetable a students chosen combination, we will discuss alternative options with those students. For this reason, students should think carefully about their reserve choice.
4. Can I change my option choices later during Years 10 and 11?Once you have, after careful thought and consideration, chosen and submitted your subjects, we do not encourage you to change subject choices. You should discuss any changes you wish to make with the Deputy Head (Academics) or (EADOF9EARCHANGEMAYBEPOSSIBLEDURINGTHERSTTWOWEEKSOFTHERSTSEMESTEROF9EARPROVIDEDTHATp9OURNEWCHOICEOFOPTIONSTSWITHEXISTINGOPTIONSELECTIONS Your new choice does not cause an unacceptably large class. Your teacher advisors think that the request to change is sensible for you.
5. Can I change my options at the start of Year 12, when I start my A levels?It is sometimes possible to study subjects at A level that have not been studied at IGCSE, and there are some subjects that are only offered at A level, such AS0SYCHOLOGY3TUDENTSWHOHAVESTUDIEDCOURSESATTHE)'#3%LEVELWILLNDthemselves at an advantage when starting A level compared to students taking up new options. 6. Can I drop a subject if I am not achieving good grades? No, we expect students to continue with all their IGCSE subject choices until the end of the course. Many universities require students to have taken a minimum number of IGCSEs whilst all universities want to see that students can manage a busy workload and will succeed when faced with challenges.
Students are only permitted to drop subjects in exceptional and unusual circumstances, for example, if a student has a period of prolonged ill health. Students will only be allowed to drop a subject at the recommendation of the Head of IGCSE.
7. Is it compulsory for a student to sit the IGCSE examination in a subject? Yes, for the reasons above, students are expected to sit the IGCSE examination in the subjects chosen. If a students grade is low, they should discuss strategies for improving their performance with the subject teacher or Head of Year.
8. Do I need to achieve particular grades to take the subject at A Level? Yes, the minimum requirement for progressing to A Level in most subjects is a B grade at IGCSE.
9. Is promotion to study at A Level automatic?.O THEMINIMUM REQUIREMENT FOR ENTRY TO THE ,EVEL PROGRAMME IS VEpasses at IGCSE, including English and mathematics, all with an A*, A or B grade. In addition, some AS courses have additional entrance requirements.
