I have been on the road all month vising the clubs and have been very impressed with the way each club conducts its busi- ness and enjoyed hearing about all of the upcoming events each of you have planned. GREAT JOB EVERY- ONE!!!!!! Growth in the clubs is slowly coming around and I see enthusiasm in the clubs as each of you see that it IS possible for each of you to have a plus 3 in member- ship at the end of the year! I appreciate the efforts you are making in filing your reports each month as well. This month the web site site was down for 3 days, which shows us to not wait unl the last week to file if possible. File what you have now and you can always add to it the next month! This past month we had our first Council of Gover- nors meeng that was held jointly with our Lions Light- house team, our Camp for the Blind team and our Leader Dog team. Let me tell you there were a lot of meengs and a lot of discussions so that at the end, a lot of accomplishments were made. I feel each team leſt knowing that this state of Georgia Lion members care about their programs deeply and will always be there to lend a helping hand to keep each program going strong in Georgia. With that being said, Camp for the Blind is the one program that is most in need of our help at this me to turn things around financially. We need to give them top priority and help this great program keep going. I have a team in place at this very moment that is pung together a project that will be a Georgia Dis- trict 18N project that the funds will all go to the Camp. When we have things set, the blast will go out for all hands on deck and I need every club to help in any way possible to make this a HUGE success please!!!! I would also like to see each club do an extra project with the funds ear marked for the Camp like you do a White Cane Day ear marked for the Lighthouse. I also will say now that I expect to see on my roll of clubs at the end of the year that each and every one of you supported each of the four programs of Georgia Lions and they are LCI, Lighthouse, Camp for the Blind and Leader Dog. If it is only $25 to each one of them, I want to see it please!!!! I know that I am making a lot of requests of each of the clubs this year, but trust me please when I say that WHEN we accomplish each of these things, it will only make our district stronger and our clubs stronger and we will be able to serve even beer in our com- munies and beyond! Coming up, I have even more clubs to visit this month and I am looking forward to it. I see zone meengs are going on, which is great. Aend those in your area and visit other clubs in your area as well as aend their fundraisers when you can. You will really enjoy it. Next District cabinet meeng is in November in Brunswick. Fellow Lions of District 18 N

We have ended yet another month of great ser-vice and wow how fast it flew by!!! I have been on the road all month visiting the clubs and have been very impressed with the way each club conducts its busi-ness and enjoyed hearing about all of the upcoming events each of you have planned. GREAT JOB EVERY-ONE!!!!!!

Growth in the clubs is slowly coming around and I see enthusiasm in the clubs as each of you see that it IS possible for each of you to have a plus 3 in member-ship at the end of the year! I appreciate the efforts you are making in filing your reports each month as well. This month the web site site was down for 3 days, which shows us to not wait until the last week to file if possible. File what you have now and you can always add to it the next month!

This past month we had our first Council of Gover-nors meeting that was held jointly with our Lions Light-house team, our Camp for the Blind team and our Leader Dog team. Let me tell you there were a lot of meetings and a lot of discussions so that at the end, a lot of accomplishments were made. I feel each team left knowing that this state of Georgia Lion members care about their programs deeply and will always be there to lend a helping hand to keep each program going strong in Georgia.

With that being said, Camp for the Blind is the one program that is most in need of our help at this time to turn things around financially. We need to give them top priority and help this great program keep going. I have a team in place at this very moment that is putting together a project that will be a Georgia Dis-trict 18N project that the funds will all go to the Camp. When we have things set, the blast will go out for all hands on deck and I need every club to help in any way possible to make this a HUGE success please!!!! I

would also like to see each club do an extra project with the funds ear marked for the Camp like you do a White Cane Day ear marked for the Lighthouse.

I also will say now that I expect to see on my roll of clubs at the end of the year that each and every one of you supported each of the four programs of Georgia Lions and they are …LCI, Lighthouse, Camp for the Blind and Leader Dog. If it is only $25 to each one of them, I want to see it please!!!!

I know that I am making a lot of requests of each of the clubs this year, but trust me please when I say that WHEN we accomplish each of these things, it will only make our district stronger and our clubs stronger and we will be able to serve even better in our com-munities and beyond!

Coming up, I have even more clubs to visit this month and I am looking forward to it. I see zone meetings are going on, which is great. Attend those in your area and visit other clubs in your area as well as attend their fundraisers when you can. You will really enjoy it.

Next District cabinet meeting is in November in Brunswick. Put it on your calendar now to attend. See you on the road!!!!

Yours Always

On August 9-11th, 125 1st VDG’s from 21 Districts attended a 3 day orientation at Leader Dog Head-quarters outside Rochester, MI. It was quite a memorable experience for me. We saw firsthand how our monies are spent. There was an open house tour of the Facilities, training demos, a blind-fold walk with a Leader Dog (that was awesome!). Then yours truly completed the 150 foot walk with-out hurting the Dog, but my precious gift of sight will never be taken for granted again. We had a photo tour with the Puppies and a head count was taken at the end of the session - all puppies were accounted for (could have taken them home with

me!). There was also a Client panel discussion and 12’’ diameter “Doggie Donut “treats served to the 1VDG’s. I “took one for the team” and ate the whole thing, but left the donut hole for the pup-pies. We toured the Residences, where each Cli-ent and Leader Dog must complete their 26 day training together. There is no cost to Clients as the programs are free of charge, including travel, room and board. All this is available, thanks to the Lions Contributions.

I encourage each and every Club to support the Leader Dog program Lion Len Cutuli Is our Leader Dog Chairman for District 18N.He is available to answer any questions you have. Please email him at: [email protected] or call Len @ 912-988-1466.

Lion Laurie Lane is a charter member of the Brunswick Lions Club and has been a Lion since June 2010. She is in her second year as Club Secretary and cur-rently serves as Cabinet Secre-tary for District 18N.

Laurie has attended several state and district conventions as well as the USA/Canada forum in Tampa. She has participated

in club activities of the Brunswick Lions Club, including reading to first graders at Goodyear Elementary, ringing a bell for the Salvation Army during the holidays, partici-pating in the Brunswick Christmas Parade by winning top trophies for the last two years, and assisting with the first annual Jekyll Island BBQ Beach Bash, the signa-ture fundraiser for the Brunswick Club. She is currently assisting Zone Chair Frank Lane in planning and coordi-nating the 2014 District Convention in Brunswick.

After 33 years, Laurie recently retired from the Medical College of Georgia where she managed the Fac-ulty Senate of the School of Medicine, a job she enjoyed tremendously. If you enjoy what you do, you never work a day in your life. This is true of retirement as well, and now she enjoys mystery shopping and visiting tea rooms throughout the South. Her first love is her hus-band of 29 years, Lion Frank Lane. She also enjoys snow-chasing and has traveled to upstate NY and Niagara Falls several seasons to play in the snow. In her 53 years she has traveled to all 50 states and most continents and looks forward to a summer trip to Maine and Prince Edward Island in 2014.

Lion Jon Winters was born in Au-gusta, Georgia to Faye Westbrook Winters and the late Don Winters. At the age of 11½ he moved with his fam-ily (parents, 2 brothers and 2 sisters) from Hephzibah to Waycross, where his father took the position of Director of the Waycross-Ware County Area Vocational-Technical School (known as Waycross-Ware Tech). Lion Jon is a 1972 graduate of Waycross High

School and a 1973 graduate of Waycross-Ware Tech. In the Summer of 1982 he moved back to Augusta to con-tinue his college education, graduating from Augusta College in 1985. Lion Jon has spent most of his adult life in the field of accounting, and he is presently self-employed as a fiduciary for disabled veterans.

When the Fleming Lions Club was working to start a new club in Hephzibah, a childhood friend of Jon’s invited him to one of the first organizational meetings in the Winter of 1990. Liking what he saw and heard he became a charter member of the Hephzibah Lions Club; he was the charter chaplain. That Spring he was elected treasurer of the club for the 1990-91 year. Lion Jon has held just about every position in the club and several more than once. He is a 3-time President of the club. Over the past 23 years he has served on and/or chaired numerous club committees. His club named him Lion of the Year in 1996-97 and 2011-12. In 1998 the club honored him by making him a Melvin Jones Fellow.

Lion Jon began his service at the district level when 18-F DG Bill Shurling appointed him to serve as a Zone Chair during 1994-95; he served as a zone chair two more times. The following year DG Beverly Roberts tapped him to be her Cabinet Treasurer, a position he went on to hold for two more years under DGs Carolyn Irvin and Robert Yonchak. In the spring of 1998 Lion Jon was elected 18-F Vice District Governor for 1998-99. He had the privilege and honor of serving as 18-F District Governor during the 1999-2000 year when Lion James E. “Jim” Ervin was President of Lions Clubs Inter-national. He has also served as 18-F Membership Chair and Leadership Development Chair. He served as 18-F District Convention Chair in 2001. In addition, he again served as 18-F Cabinet Treasurer from 2009-2013. He also served as 2nd VDG (2011-12) and 1st VDG (2012-13) for 18-F. Currently, Lion Jon is serving as 18-N Cabi-net Treasurer and ALERT Chair. Lion Jon has received Certificates of Appreciation from every district gover-nor since 1995; he has also received several Interna-tional President’s Certificates of Appreciation and two International President’s Leadership Medals.

At the MD-18 level, Lion Jon was elected Treasurer of the Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation at the Win-ter 2000 meeting and served in this position for five years (2000-2005). He was subsequently elected Presi-

dent of the Lighthouse and served for two years (2005-2007). He served as Board Advisor from 2007-2010. He is a recipient of the Mildred Bingham Award. Currently, Lion Jon is again serving as Lighthouse Treasurer. In April 2009 Lion Jon was asked by Georgia Lions Camp for the Blind President Frank Spinney to fill the unex-pired term of Camp Treasurer, which he agreed to do. Lion Jon went on to be elected to a full term (2010-2012) as Camp Treasurer. Lion Jon served as General Convention Co-Chair, along with Lion Frank Spinney, of the 2013 MD-18 Convention held in Augusta. At the 2013 Organizational Meeting of the District Governors-elect Lion Jon was honored to be elected to serve as MD-18 Chairman of the Council of Governors for 2013-2014.

Our District Librarian, Lion Joanne Rogalsky has request-ed all Lions Clubs to send her the following for recordkeep-ing; Meeting minutes, Club Newsletters, any advertisements or usable materials from club projects (Copies accepted and mail able), Newspaper articles.

Clubs are reminded to fill out the Activities report each month on the My LCI web site. Be sure to detail your activi-ties as they may become the basis of articles in the Lions Magazine. Also be sure to file your membership report each month. You do not have to wait until late in the month to file. This can be done on the first by checked the box “No changes to report”. If you do have a change, it can be made later in the month. This will allow us to reach 100% re-porting.

Somewhere in the world, a person goes blind every five seconds, and your efforts can help to stop this trend. Each October, Lions have an opportunity to show the strength and impact of our global network through participation in a special service action campaign, "Sharing the Vision."

Take Action During October, we invite you and your club to join Lions around the world to lead the fight against blindness. Help us raise awareness of the importance of healthy connec-tion with World Sight Day, recognized each October. Or, organize projects throughout the month that mobilize your club members to make a difference in your communi-ty … by helping those who live with blindness and visual impairment.
