DECISION Explanation

ADVERTISING I choose advertising as the main theme because I’m interest in this career and my job hit list is full of advertising agency names. Therefore I want to do something that would be good for my portfolio and my show reel.

VIVI MAGAZINE Vivi magazine is a fashion magazine from Japan, which focus on woman’s trend and lifestyle. I choose this fashion magazine because I want to do what I like and feel most comfortable with. Moreover Japan culture and style has been my favorite since I went there for the first time.

ILLUSTRATION Illustration is not really my best area of technique but it’s the technique that most fitting to this project. It’s able to provide a clean image and smooth animation. Further-more I think it is the style that corresponds with 3D.

3D I add 3D into the mix because I want the project to be more interesting. As using only illustration is nice but I think it seems a bit boring. Moreover I also want to experi-ment something I never do before, as I want to improve and not struck doing the same thing allover again.

Page 9: DFX proposal Aom

DECISION EXPLANATION

MOOD I want to present a happy mood to the audiences. Upbeat would be something that cheers you up, while refreshing is connect with the theme of the magazine and also good to look at. Then I also want to make it addictive, as every good advertises should be.

COLOR TONE Pink is to represent the sweet and girly style of the magazine as it’s also Vivi main theme color. I want to convey many feminine tones so I think I’m going use a lot of pink shades. On the other hand, white is to represent the clean and pure image as to show that the magazine is full of innocent and lively models. Yellow is an important extra color because it’s fun and addictive.

INSPIRATION REKA BY DIRK RAUSCHER

Reka is a TV spot that made by using Cinema 4D. I like it because it’s bright and cheerful. The colors Rauscher used are very lively and that connect to my theme of color scheme.

As for the technique is good too, with the pop up style animation and simple gradi-ent to create the depth of field. Moreover the transition of the animation is very smooth which make it flows nicely.

It also has good advertising strategy for the travel agency, as it’s very flashy and attractive especially for young kid. Therefore if the kid interests, it’s easy to persuade the parents.

INSPIRATION JP MORGAN CHASE CHANGE BY MCGARRYBOWEN

Change is the advertising for JP Morgan Chase, the organization that helps lend-ing fund for the struggle American family. It is a mix between 2D and 3D animation which using both Cinema 4D and After Effect.

I really like the clean and sharp style it presented because the white color it used can be interpret as sincere intention. The tint of other colors also complement the whole look of animation, making it more warm and mushy.

The art is pretty and eye catching. I like that the creator makes the use of white and paper texture connection as well as the animation dynamic.

INSPIRATION JP MORGAN CHASE COMMUNITY BY MCGARRYBOWEN

Community is another advertising for JP Morgan Chase, which is similar to “Change” in both technique and style. The different are the camera angle and the wider approached of space.

I like that it creates the continuously scenes with the expanding effect that actually helps to convey the massage of being a big company. The art is as nice as the early one and might be a bit better because in here we’re able to see more perspectives.

The pop up book style is slightly more versatile than the usual pop up style with just a book and turning pages. The clever way of putting the objects together to create those scenes is what makes it stand out.

Follow the white rabbit is a promotion video for the pop-up book of Benjamin La-combe, which features fairy tale most famous stories like Alice, Pinocchio, The Sleeping Beauty, Bluebeard, Peter Pan, Little Red Riding Hood, Mrs. Butterfly and Thumbelina.

This is my most favorite inspiration I choose, as it is something that I really want to achieve. Fairytale and pop-up book have always come together since I was very young, however the enhancement of them never changes.

The technique that makes it look like paper is great and the colors present are harmonious. I especially favor the connection of each story by using the white rabbit from Alice in Wonderland.

Scott uses all solid color and adding shadow by just using solid on top of solid or some pattern. It makes the animation look more simplistic than using the gradient and gives out a really vector feel.

EXPERIMENT CREATING AND ANIMATING 3D BOOK

EXPERIMENT CREATING AND ANIMATING 3D BOOK

As my project is about magazine so it required the book animation, therefore I tried to create a flipping book pages using Cinema 4D.

I read some tutorial online for an insight and decide to experiment it. First, I created the plane object then change the mode to point mode. After that I moved the pivot point to the side of the plane so its movement would resemble a real book.

Secondly, I put the Clothilde Tags into the plane to make the movement more real-istic. I tweaked the gravity value and put some keyframe into time line.

Finally, I adjust the force number to control the wind value and movement. Then I change the color of the book and background as well as at some light into the scene.

I rendered the animation out and put it into after effect to make it longer. Therefore, I can create the flipping book for my project now and the experiment is successful.
