Baba Beloved.eo.

In the most recent interview with BAIBA, Shraddhanadaji was able to meet with HI1. SAISAI complained o f chest pain and said that HIS breathing stops almost every night t about 2.30 AM and then HE is disturbed and awakened. This is not a good sign. It is due to extreme weakness on account of HIS long fast which will be two years at the end oJ this month. The carel ess atti tude of the Government is very regrettable.

BA'SAI oes not get newsletters of Gujarati, Tanl; Telgu, or Kannada as there is no one in the jail who knows these languages to censor them. SAlSA' says they should eit her appoint someone to censor them or just hand them over without censoring.

Yours brotherly,

Apr il 1, 1975 marks the beginning of Ba'bals third yar of abstainingfrom any solid food to protest His poisoning in Bankiporetentral Jidl on February 12, 1973.

How can anyon survive for two yeirs without eating? How is that possible? 80w many times-have we wondered these questions?

Salba' SQ.ys He is sti.11 aJive only because of the love of His devotees from all over. Our devotion and dedication to His great mission, to Dharma, is maintaining His body, So how can Balha'comeouf and be with· us? How can we all be graced by His darshan?

By increasing our love and devotion a thousand-fold. By igniting our hearts wit h the fl ame of unceasing inspired ded;"cation."· By ignoring all obstacles, by accepting clash as His grace and His grace alone. By never once looking backwards. By always advancing and never pausing.

It is reported that Ba'ba' has said, "Don' t they know I am on my deathbed!" Perhaps it is really all of us who are on our deathbeds. The Sad guru is the mirror of humanity, of the human condition. Morality is scattered to the wind, righteousness knows no home, suffering alone is bountiful. Humanity cries out in anguished torment!

We are all so busy, so very busy, trying, ever trying. We must not let up even for a moment, but rather accelerate our speed. The time is now and the task obvious. Without once looking back, without so much as glancing at hindrances, let us proceed with utmost vigor, courage, and collective dedication to Dharma. Ba' ba' has assured us again and again that with proper zeal and ideation, victory is_surely ours!

On February 1 7, 1 975, Ac. Jagadii shva ranandaji, together with Ac. Nityayuktanandaji. P. A. (Pe r s on al Assis tant) to 8a'ba', and one Margii brother, saw B a'ba' in th e jai l. Dada gives the following account of the in te rview:

"Myself, Jagadiishvaranandaji, and Shanti Ranjan Pyne. " Balbal asked,

"How are you al l r And they repl ied in the positive. Then whil e He spoke with Nityayuktanandaji, Dada Jagadiish

varanandaji took Balbals l eft hand on his palm and began to stroke the fingers gentl y. He saw the fingers have become as if onl y bone covered by skin. Suddenly Balbal turned His face, and l ifting His ring finger, told,

IIJust see here I used to put my pearl-studded ring. Due to prolonged fast the finger has become very l ean and thin. Naturally, I took my ring off and kept it in my box. The members of the search party have stol en my ring.1I

After a short pause, again Balbal spoke; IIAfter the administration of poison water al ways fal l s down

Dada asked something to Balba, but He coul d not hear and said, IIFor a long time now I have not taken any sol id food natural l y

the organs of the ear have become very weak, and I feel difficulty in hearing any low voice. II

Balbal showed a hot-water bag which lay near the bed and said that a boil had formed on the back of His left thigh. I t has now subsided but there is stil l pain. He uses the hot-water bag to relieve His pain. He paused, and for a few minuts there was a divine silence in the cell . Then again Balbal started. H lifted His left arm and pointed to the door.

"See how they have in name hung a curtain, but they have folded it and kept it to one side of the door. They cannot deny the Court,l s order. so they have hung it there. But what is the utility to keep such a curtai n • • . • fol ded and kept to one sider

IIYes, my son, I have read the report. You know the torture inflicted on the Russian writer Sol zhenitsyn is now wel l -known throughout the world. But the tortures infl icted on you peopl e, that y ou are undergoing now, are no l ess than his. Let your tale of tortures be known by every man of the worl d, on every continent, in every country, and in every house. II

As soon as Ba1bals voice stopped, the pol ice officer shouted, "Time is over, you al i' come out from the· room1I

had read in philosophy that the six attributes - Aeshvarya, Viirya, Yasha, Shrii, Jinana, and Vaeragva - are collectively called 8haga, and that one who possesses Bhaga is Bhagavana. Aeshvarya is again the colletive name for the eight occult pmvers, one of which is Antaryamitva (knowing the wit hin of others). Philo s ophers have considered the achievement of this occult power the m ost difficult. While go i n g through the lives of great sadhakas and Mahapurusas, I found that this awe-inspiring occult power was exhibited by them only at times. It was not a very usual feature.

There are many sadtlaKaS 1[1 tne l'larga \-Ino have lieen so fortunate as to remain with Baba for long durations. I and they both have realized that Antaryamitva is so natural, so sahaja, with Saba: He is ever i the state of knowing others' minds. There are countless incidents of this kind. I am clearly in difficulty t o select the o nes to narrate here. You know, if it rains gold once or twice, people \'!ould pick up every piece of it. out what if gold rains day in and day out every minute arid every hour? Gold would lie scattered all over. Baba's greatness is raini n g all o ver like this kind of gold . . .. .

This relates to 1957 or '58. A nUr.lber of sadh akas , including myself and a student of B.A. from Muzaffarpur were sitting in the General Darshan at the Jamalpur jagrti. Baba called the boy near Him and t ouched his Ajina Cakra ( the spot between the eyebrovls). It became reddi sh, and the boy fell down unconsc ious. Gaba told us not to worry as the boy would regain himself in some time . The boy regained himself in 15 or 20 minutes and sat up. Saba asked us to see hi s eyes. Tiley were qui te red, simi 1 ar to the eyes of one vI110 ic; drunk. Then hClba asked the boy.

"Do you prefer this state or the st ate you are in after drinking wine in yo ur hostel?" The boy replied,

"Saba This is s o pleasant! ...... I can't explain it. I like it!" Then Baba said,

"This boy keeps wine secretly in the hostel and drinks it. He ttlinks that nobody knows it. Boy! Your secrt drinking is d isclosed. Whenever you d o some action, My two eyes are 'tlatcil in g you. II

Baba further explained that by His t ouch the boy got the nectarial hormone secreted from his pineal gland and was thus in a state of divine intoxica ,iotl. f-e nl.3.de 'Ihe boy pron:ise Him !lot to drink wille again and to devote sufficient time to sadhana.

Baba not only brings eople into spirituality, but He takes care of them everyvlhere -ind every tillie. This i s 'tJhat a Sadguru does.

c£,fIIVA The following article on the life shiva the first greai Tantrik Preceptor is taken from Abhimata (The Opinion), by P. R. Sarkar.

After the Aryan settlement in India a great man was born in the non-Aryan society. Born in the Mongolo-Aryan family this great man had an erect nose and fair complexion. He was a great Tantrika-a great Yogii. The name of this Maha'purus'a of the non-Aryan society was Shiva.

For one man to have so many qualities and endowment; at the same time was beyond the comprehension of the people and so he was called Gun'a'tiita or Nirgun'a (Transcendental or Attributeless)Purus'8, As the result of his TanH;) S;)'clh:1na' he ;1ttainecl :111 all seeing power Tili, power he employed for the good of humanity. It was he who had given Tantra a well-compact, coherent form and so he was the Guru (Preceptor) ur the i-allier u1 We ia"lltflkas ami Yugll.

To this self-realized Maha'purus'a, having the knowledge of God, there was no distinctiol1 of high and low. People of all classes, from the highest to the lowest, were dear to him, irrespective' of classes-Aryan, non-Aryan, Dravidian, Austric or Mongolian-all gathered round him. He would bless them all equally.

Due to Shiva's pervasive influence over the non-Aryan society, the non-Aryans. i.e .. the Ta'ntrikas, used to worship him as God and as per their respective intellectual strata they had regarded and accepted him in his different bearings. Just as, on one hand, the Aryans looked upon their own gods and goddesses as identical with Shiva, similarly the Kaola Mahatantrikas began to regard their Shiva as identical with Nirgun'a Brahma (Pure Objectless Consciousness). The foremost cause behind this conception of theirs was the absolute detachment and self-forgetful bearing of Shiva, the Lord of supernatural and miraculous power. All had got attracted to S hiva' s supernat"ural power. his illl pOSlllg personality, his limitless qualities and the calm. tranquil, radiantly white loveliness of his features.

Entranced to the captivative charm and qualities of Shiva, Princess Gaorii. the daughter uf the Aryan King, Daks'a:wanted to marry him. King Daks'a was not at all in favor of his daughter marryIng a non-Aryan, but eventually he gave way to the adamant attitude of his daughter and so Shiva and Princess Gaorii got married.

There had been many Aryans who had supported the marriage of Gaorii to Shiva because. 011

account of the extraordinary 1I1f1uence of Shiva, they had been eager to establish kinship with Shiva. instead of being hostile to hi m . However, centering round Shiva, all the Aryan and non-Aryan clashes and disputes came to a permanent end. In other words, the Aryans accepted the predominance of Shiva.

The non-Aryans were very happy getting Gaorii in their midst. Just as they regarded Shiva as

their God, similarly they regarded Gaorii as their Goddess. The non-Aryans were yellow. black and white but the Aryan King Daks'a's daughter, Gaorii. having descended from purely Aryan origin, had "been Gaora-Varn'a', i.e., white-complexioned, and hence Shiva's fair consort had been named Gaorii', Gaorii. now" the inhabitant of the Himalaya Mountain, was very often called Parvata Kanya (Daughter of the Mountain) or Pa'rvatii in common language.

I told you a little while ago that the non-Aryans used to do Tantra Sa'dhana according to their respective intellectual status. Their worshipable gods were two-Purus'a (Cosmic Consciousness) and Prakrti (His _Operative .Pr'inciple). Whatever were their intellectual and spiritual standards, all of them thought Shiva to be their chief God or Shiva'vata'ra (Shiva-incarnate) and Gaorii tu be their chief goddess.

"------------------------------------- 8---------------------------------

DFTS-03729

The Aryans began to think that since they were so very indebted to Shiva, it would not do for them to neglect or disregard him. It was Shiva whu taught them spiritual Sa'dhana', posture (a'sana) and b reath-control (pra'n'a'ya'rna)--the secre t of good health. the science of Medicine, the highly developed art of dance and music. For i1is excellence in dancing both the Aryans and the non-Aryans used to call him Nat'ara'ja, and Na ' datanu for his proficiency ill vocal song,. Nunc had taken any count of the number of medicines he had invented for every kind of disease. He had bee n the Curu of the A'yurveda'ca'ryas or professors of medicine . The Asuras used to be cured of many tough diseases. Both the Aryans and the non-!\ryans' thought that since Shiva knew so many remedies, he was perhaps il1llllortal and su they gave him the name of Mrtyuinjaya (Conqueror of death ) . Even today people, when they cOllle across any incurable discaoc, say " Even Shiv« ha no cure for this disease." Like the nUll-Aryans, eve ntually the Aryans, wu, upenly accepted Shiva as G od also Caorii as Goddess .

The cunceited racialists, the Aryans. could lIot rcmain at peacc after their acceptance of Shiva as

Cud. They thought that the non-Aryans wuuld make capi tal out of this event and vaunt about their triumph ove r the Aryans and so they threw themselves to the task of proving that Shiva was an Aryan. Non-Aryan Shiva used to live in cemeteries. crematoria, lonesome plains and on the different peaks of the Himalayas. The Aryans turned Shiva into a full-fledged Divinity uf the Sha'stras (Scriptures). But the

. l1lltter docs llot end here. To prove the Aryan-ness of Shiva they hung an Upaviita or sacred thread on his left shoulder. ( N eedless to say. non-Aryan Shiva had no such sacred thread-he had kept an Upaviita of snake round his neck, although in the image of the Ary an god, Brahma' there is no sign of such a

thread. ) That Drahilla' had been an Aryan by race , none had 'lny dt.lubt. but in the case of Shiva there was no othe r way to prove Shiva an Aryan without hanging an Upaviita on his person. It is notable even today that Shiva has been the God of all. regardless of caste O[ color-high o[ low, learned o[ ignorant, Llrahlllin ur the low caste. Such tremendous universality of popularity none of the gods in India has. Even if one due s not know the mantra. one can worship Shiva. Virgin girls of tender age model earth into Shiva and worship him. The philosophical Sa'dhakas of yore used to achieve Sama'dhi (suspension of mind) in S hivatva (Cosmic consciousness), the so-called low-castes like Doma, Can'd'a'la become Sanny asins ur religious me n dicants as a vow to Shiva. Any other divin ities would not even touch the s i lad l lws ()f these so-called low-breds.

"

DFTS-03730

The present social system of India (which is fundamentally Tantristic) had been evolved by Shiva. After accepting Shiva as God without any reservation the Aryans misappropriated everything good in the Dravids and the non-Aryans. Of course their prestige did not at all diminish the.reby-rather it was enhanced. After this misappropriation there was an attempt at propaganda that Tantra had been originally the proucts of the Aryans themselves. The Aryans used to say-

A 'gatam' shiva-vaktrebhyoh gatainca girija 'shru tao

Matainca va'sudevasya tasma'da'gama ucyate.

That is to say, this Tantra or A'gama Sha'stra (Estoteric Scripture) had actually been composed by Va'sudeva, Shiva had only related it to Pa'rvatii. You blessed man! If Va'sudeva at all had been the author of this doctrine, what the deuce did he go to put it into the mouth of the non-Aryan Shiva for, instead of telling it himself? In the beginning the Aryans used to do Tantra-Sa'dhana in secret, due to its superiority, but after recognizing Shiva, the Aryans, in whose veins flowed the Aryan blood, made no bones to openly declare themselves as Ta'ntrikas.

Not in India alone, but in quite a big part of the world-in every sphere of life, the laws and injunctions of Shiva. alone have been the vogue for a long time. Even today the civilisation of modern India is intrinsically Tantristic. On the outside there is only a Vedic stamp. If we take the Indian civilization for an enamelled ornament, then its gold is Tantric and the enamel, Vedic-. The wandering Sannyasin of the cemeteries and crematoria and at the same time a family man, this Shiva alone is the ideal man of India and Gaorii, the ideal woman. Shiva is the universal father and Gaorii, the universal mother-Shiva's household is the three worlds.

When the Indians were about to forget the teachings of Shiva for the fascination of the world, then there came another great man like Shiva, who reminded them of those teachings-that Maha'purus'a was Shrii Krs'n'a. Whether Krs'n'a was great or Shiva-such a question does not arise, because all knowers of Brahma are one-all are Brahma. Shrii Krs'n'a was the supreme teacher and ideal politician of the world, not to speak of India alone, and Shiva was the Guru-the Father of the human society of the world-a completely different aspect. Shiva is the Universal Father. ] ust as the Moon is the maternal uncle of all, similarly Shiva is the Father of aIL

All the three worlds are Shiva's family. His prestige is not limited to any particular territory. Nevertheless, if any father has to be sought out for the Indian civilization, Indian society or the so-called Indian nation, then I can say with all the emphasis at my command that the ability of being the Father of the Indian Nation as also of the nation of the universe belongs to Shiva and Shiva alone. The good old Shiva alone and nobody else has the competence of being the Father of this overfive-thousand-year-old so-called Indian Nation.

There is a Single Entity, a Single Personality in this universe. Apparently you are many, but

fundamentally you are one. The One is manifest in the many . The creation of this universe, its

substance is One, though creation is manifold. Why this creation of One into many? The reply is only with the Creator, the Supreme Lord. Philosophers try to answer this question but fail. How far

can a microscope brain with its small nerve fibers go? }:'ven if he utilizes all his mental powers, he

cannot succeed. The devotee's approach· to this question is, however, different. He enters Gud's

mind, mingles his mind with that of the Supreme Being and knows some of the secrets oj God's

mind from within.

Namaskar Respected Brothers and Sisters;

During the past few months, Ba'ba' has witnessed a number of noteworthy events In our efforts to gi ve AMURT a strong base in thi s sector: the birth of regional AMURT teams and boards; the successful happening of a regional AMURT ,seminar; the raising of $500.00 for AMURT by a benefit concert. and the rai sing of AMURT consc'; ousness in the enti re sector. The fol l owing are evidence of a growing concern among Margiis for our universal famil y and cl early reflect this new AMURT Consciousness:

Northeast Region: Margiis had an AMURT Retreat this weekend and it was very successful. Here in New Haven three sisters are taking a course in amateur radio. There wil l be a project: col l ecting and distributing, cl oth to needy peopl e. We have a good rel ation with the Red Cross. The AMURT Board is putting out a newsl etter soon.

Mid-Atl antic Region: AMURT members attended the District leeting of Voluntary Agencies Active in Disaster 3.nd found it very hel pful -"useful and enl ighteningll. Bl acksburg unit hel d a fund-raising concert for AMURT which was successful to the tune of $500.00.

Southeast Resion': AMURT members attended the District Meeting of Vol untary Agencies Actlve in Disaster in their region.

Why is AMURT growing so fast? Because the time fo r AMUKT is NOW. This world cannot wait for the slo-changing governments and institutions to come to its aid. The ilealing touch of Balbals love is needed now. And He is inviting us all to become His missionaries of love, to help heal the wounds of a shattered family. Let those who want to take up His work come forward.

Balbal said that He has corne for everyone. Then everyone should know that He has come for them. How will the millions of hungry. sick. homeless, uneducated, and ill-clothed children of the Lord know that He has come for them? Who will tell them?

I think Balba's mission of love, AMURT, and its missionaries Vii 1 1 do it. Remembe r:

"Do a 1 1 the good you can, in all the ways you can, in all the places you can, to all the people you can, as long as ever you can."

--Shrii Shrii Anandamurti

May the Lord shine from your heart to all who are blessed by your presence. Namaskar.

If the world were a global village of 100 people, 70 of them would be unable to read and only one would have a college educa_tion. Over 50 would be suffering from malnutrition, and over 80 would live in what we call sub-standard housing.

If the world were a global village of 100 residents, 6 of them would be Americans. These 6 would have half the village's entire income and the other 94 would exist on the other half.

How would the wealthy 6 live '''in peace" with their neighbors? Surely they would be driven to arm themselves against the other 94 • • • • perhaps even to spend, as we do, more per person on military defense' than the total income per person of the others • • • •

PRATI KA

All Margiis are reminded that the Pratika (emblem) is not to be used in newsletters , posters , pamphlets , etc. It may appear only in l3a'ba's books. Al so please keep in mind that while a proper medall ion Prati ka may be worn over the heart , it is not to be embroidered on clothes , silkscreened on T-shirts , drawn on envelopes , etc. The Pratika is the symbol of Ba'ba's ideology , and as such it should be accorded the same respect.

A HISTORY OF THE PERSECUTION OF NANDA MARGA

A ten page history of the persecution of Ananda targa , including all aspects of Ba'ba's case , was mailed to the units in mid-March to be utilized for informing the Margiis about the matter. If you haven't yet seen this document, contact your unit secretary.

CORRECTION

In the March issue of The Crimson Dawn , in an article about the immolations of Acaryas Divynandaji and Dineshvaranandaji , it \'/as stated that on April 9th and 23rd we will remember our martyred brothers. Acarya Dineshvaranandaji committed his self-immolation on the 24th of April at the Purana Quila (Old Fort) in New Delhi. On the previous day (the 23rd) Margiis had held a massive protest rally in New Delhi which was brutally attacked by the police. So the observance of Acarya Dineshvaranandaji 's self-imnolation will be held April 24th , not April 23rd.

16 POINTS Margiis in New York Sector are responding very well to the increased

emphasis on 16 Points. Sectorial Office is printing and distributing "SelfAnalysis Charts II - t o be used daily as a constant reminder of our adherence to these beautiful guidelines Ba'ba' has given to us. The rate at which these charts must be re-printed indicates that they are being well-used by a great many Margiis. See page 19 for competition results.
