Assessment Event 2: Social Networking site

Required documents and equipment

Instructions for candidateYou are required to do some readings and additional internet research on social media tools and applications to enable you to complete the written task.

All work must be in your own words, copying from any source is not allowable.

You are required to create an online web presence for a client using social media tools and applications. There are two parts to this assessment. Part One is to set up the social networking site, Part Two is to record how and why it was developed.

Part one: set up a social networking application

For this assessment task you are to use the files provided in the Assessment folder. Your task is to set up a social networking application that can be used for the client. Select one from the following options:

OPTION 1. A collaboration wiki

OR OPTION 2. Your choice of the following:

A blog, a social network site such as Facebook or Google+.

The design brief and images are located in AssessmentFiles.zip.

Part two: client documentation

1. Explain the business needs of your client – Kube Toy LibraryThe following is a guide to the type of answers you should be including in response to the question. The scenario used in this case is using a website for delivering TAFE courses.

Client is a Teacher for TAFENeed is to deliver notes and assessment tasks to student when they are outside TAFETo be able to post links to course related newsTo be able to send messages to a student listTo create discussion topics for student commentTo provide a facility for students to contact each otherTo inform students about next week’s classLink with past students of the course

2. Comment on a variety of tools and how each would benefit the businessDiscuss at least three applications that are relevant to Kube Toy Library.

Wikispace – allow students to view course information, be involved in discussion groups, download files.Facebook – Create a student community, keep in touch past students (motivational tool)Share work opportunitiesGoogle Blog – To keep students in touch with the latest developments in social media and technologyYoutube – Instructional videos on hardware modules in the course

4. How you setup the tool – an overview of the steps you followed.These can also be screen shots of the set up process

5. Establish the interface – this will involve adding text and media content such as images, videos, documents, etc.

- Test the site with another web browser.(use a screen shot to evidence your test).

- Evaluate the site by briefly explaining if you think it will benefit Kube Toy Library for their business needs (is the chosen social media the most appropriate for this business).

Note: the site may be deleted after the unit is completed – ensure you record all steps of the task with screenshots where suitable.
