Los Cabos (the capes) is in the southern most tip of the State of Baja California Sur and consists of six main areas: La Paz, Todos Santos, Cabo San Lucas, the Corridor, San José del Cabo and the East Cape.If you look at the Baja Sur map you can see that the highways and towns form a loop. There are ongoing road improvements and new highway constructions, so getting from one place to another will only get easier. The new highway to Todos Santos is impressively well done making it only 45 minutes away from Cabo San Lucas.

Cabo San LucasCabo San Lucas, also just known as “Cabo”, is a tourist friendly town located on the tip of the Baja California peninsula that’s full of entertainment for every age and liking. You will find the Sea of Cortez and the Pacific Ocean meeting at land’s end and the beautiful rock formations that create the famous Cabo arch. Cabo San Lucas has the liveliest beach in the Los Cabos area, an impressive marina and countless restaurants and bars that keep the town alive day and night.

The CorridorThe corridor is a 40 Km highway that connects Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo (about a 25 minute drive). Along this road you can find various hotels, luxury ocean front homes, championship golf courses and beautiful views. Have your camera ready to snap some photos of the beautiful beaches and make a roadside stop at the Cabo Real arroyo for a refreshing coco frío (cold coconut).

San José del CaboWalking around San José will be more of a traditional Mexican town experience than Cabo San Lucas. You will find yourself surrounded by colorful buildings and quaint cobblestone streets that lead to the town’s picturesque zócalo (main plaza). Over the years, San José has become an artistic and cultural centre with numerous fine art galleries in its downtown art district. From November through June the popular “Art Walk” takes place every Thursday evening where the galleries welcome guests to view their exhibits, sip wine and dine at one of the five star restaurants. San José has a beautiful beach where you can take a horseback ride and explore the estuary that is home to many different bird species.

Todos SantosLocated on the Pacific Ocean side, Todos Santos is an oasis where artists and surfers flock to enjoy the culture and excellent surf. Home to the famous Hotel California, this charming town offers great restaurants and a cooler climate than Cabo San Lucas and San José due to the Pacific’s breezes.

La PazLa Paz is the capital of the state of Baja California Sur and is known for its warm people and beautiful beaches. This authentic Mexican city (as well as the general south

Baja region) has been rated as one of the safest in Mexico and still maintains the small town feel that is very welcoming for tourists. La Paz is a departure point for tours and charters to the stunning Espiritu Santo Island as well as whale watching excursions. Stroll down the colorful malecón (boardwalk), walk hundreds of feet in waist high water at Balandra beach or have a fine dining experience; La Paz has a lot to offer.

East CapePeople often call it “the old Cabo” because of its pristine beaches and small fishing towns such as Buena Vista and Los Barriles. The East Cape begins just east of San José and extends about 100 miles up the Sea of Cortez coast. 60 miles outside of San José is the Cabo Pulmo National Marine Park, an eight fingered coral reef that offers outstanding snorkelling and scuba diving. Very popular for fishing, the East Cape also attracts kite surfers and folks who just want to get away from it all.

This is your chance to experience the underwater life in the Sea of Cortez, also known as the “Aquarium of the World”. Prepare yourself for nature to show off as you swim side by side with colourful schools of fish, eels, rays, octopus, turtles and more.

There are a few ways to snorkel in Cabo: book one of the popular snorkel tours, drive to a beach and swim off the shore or charter your own private boat. Tours last around two or three hours and cost around $40.00 dollars per person. If you’re venturing out on your own, stay away from the Pacific side; its strong currents make it very dangerous for any kind of water sports.

SNORKELING SPOTSPelican RockThis rock attracts many fish and is just an easy five minute boat ride from the Cabo San Lucas Marina.

Lover’s BeachAccessible only by water taxi. Be aware that this is a high boat traffic area and it’s not roped off for swimmers.

Santa Maria CoveSanta Maria is a regular destination for snorkel tours. If you choose to drive there, it’s a very easy swim from the shore to the reef.

Chileno BayThis bay is also a common destination for snorkeling tours and has a safe roped off area for snorkelers.

Cabo PulmoCabo Pulmo is a Natural Marine Reserve in the East Cape that offers possibly the best snorkelling in the area. To get to this eight fingered coral reef you have take about a 2 hour drive from San José del Cabo, but it’s well worth it.

can accommodate you depending on what you need. What you do on your trip is really up to you, but it will typically consist of a tour around the arch, fishing for a couple of hours and a cruise to any of the beautiful bays for swimming. Most boats have fishing equipment and a knowledgeable crew, but the main difference between renting a yacht and a fishing boat is the cost.

Fishing Boat RentalsYou can always fish on a yacht, but cruisers and pangas are more commonly used. Pangas and Super Pangas are a more affordable option, but cruisers will fit more

Calm waters, extraordinary fishing and perfect weather...some would argue that boating is the most popular attraction in Los Cabos. Whether you want to take a cruise to Santa María Bay on a luxury yacht or wake up at the crack of dawn for a fishing adventure, the options to fit your needs are endless.

BOAT RENTALSPrivate yachts and sailboatsThere are several charter companies that

BOATING & FISHINGpeople and be more comfortable if the sea is rough. When booking with a fishing boat operator, make sure they include proper safety equipment such as; life jackets, GPS, VHF radio and shark repellent!

FISHINGThere’s a reason why the world’s richest fishing tournament - the Bisbee’s Black & Blue - takes place in Los Cabos for over thirty years. This part of the world offers an abundant sea life and an exceptionally high catch success rate. No matter what your level of fishing experience is, Cabo won’t disappoint you.

What to Expect It’s recommended to make a reservation at least one day before. Most charters include a fishing license, bait, tackle and equipment. Some also include food and drink or can be added at an additional cost. The earlier you leave the better; trips usually begin around 6:00 and 7:00 am and last around 6 hours. Cost will depend on the number of people in your party and the size of the boat you choose to rent. 15% to 20% of your charter cost is a customary tip for the crew.

Bait and TackleMost likely, the boat you charter will include your bait and tackle. If you need your own fresh bait you can buy it along the Cabo San Lucas Marina or the crew you hire can also stop to buy it from the local fishermen on your way out.

The Culinary Cultureby yeye

Baruj ata Adon-ai E-lohenu melej

aolam hamotzi lejem min haaretz.

Bienvenidos. Welcome. Wonderful you are here, in the Milky Way Galaxy.

In this Earth, Culture is human knowledge, belief, and behavior, it depends upon man’s capacity for learning and transmitting knowledge to succeeding generations, and it is constantly changing as people and places change.

La Baja’s most appreciated gift besides its people, is without argument its food. Did you know Caesar salad was created in Tijuana? As a tourist, within the stories you share with fellow travelers you will always hear a common One.~ Someone, somewhere along the 1000 miles of our Peninsula, cooked an incredible meal that will never be forgotten.

We all are brats when it comes to food, but if you understand the ultimate medicinal truth that teaches “I am what I eat”, you can see cooking is a healing art. In the same way in which art alters our state of mind, so does the experience of food. The mind gets triggered by everything and anything you ingest. Veggies give you energy, sugar gets you hyperactive and then brings you down. Fruit keeps your mind clear, white flour makes you feel dull. Natural Lemonade cleanses your liver, alcohol changes your mood and intoxicates your sense of reality.

Important is the alchemist of food. If you ever wonder how come dishes prepared with the same ingredients can be priced so differently, remember it is the experience of the Chef’s energy what you are paying for. By this, of course, I am not saying that what is expensive is better, neither that less is more, but simply that you should listen to your body and honor how you feel.

Los Cabos is blessed with the generosity of Nature. Our organic life is rich, our waters are abundant, and our people are talented and inspire the culinary culture in the region.

San José del Cabo shines internationally with its representation of our Mexican ancient

cuisine known as Alta Cocina Mexicana, gourmet creations of traditional dishes. Rich with ancient Mexican knowledge, Chefs around the world find in here their muse.

La comidaTo recommend only one from the many choices there are in this land would be a barbaric attempt. Our restaurateurs are people that love food and their way of life is to serve you. My personal advice is to listen to your inner voice.

Still, who would touch this topic without mentioning the wonders now happening in Los Cabos like Chef Angel Carbajal, Chef Casiano Reyes, Chef and award winning author Pia Quintana, and star Chef Drew Deckman, who are introducing concepts such as Slow food, protecting food biodiversity and traditions, promoting knowledge exchange around the globe, giving a voice to small-scale farmers and food producers, and helping people to understand where food comes from, how it is produced and by whom, thereby creating awareness, new markets, and positive social change.

How not to applaud our Organic cuisine. Restaurants like Sabor de Amor, Cynthia’s or Casa Dhalia Garden Café who offer a genuine local experience and teach us about how the love for the Earth is rooted in meditative practices; and how not to bow to evolutionary books about being organic inspired in Cabo such as México Sano, published by editorial Ambar.

How to ignore innovative people like San Jose del Cabo Canadian Chef Tad Chapman whose Fusion cuisine always uses the finest ingredients, spices , and techniques to make unforgettable food.

Perhaps the latest wonder is the concept developing in our region called The Culinary Cottage by Flora, La Semilla and Los Tamarindos organic farms. Here cooking is a lifestyle. Life is lived on the land we farm and seasons guide what you grow and eat. The preparation and sharing of food brings families together and creates traditions to pass down through generations.

Who would not adventure to experience the people’s home food, people like Nati, who open her restaurant Natalia with the support of local programs to help women, where you will eat delicious, for almost no money.

Tell me, how to not give importance to the conservatives who remind us that to write Culture in the same sentence with the

words Culinary and Los Cabos is like saying that because the word Baja is followed by California, it must belong to USA, absurd. To you I vow ans say, it is ignorance and not malice the force behind this behavior, what an opportunity to develop the universal value of compassion and the inspiration to use your wisdom in service of others. No matter how, what or who, food is Sacred.

¡Buen Provecho! May your experience be one of well~being.

of sacredness behind its preparation. After all, the only lasting solution before unhealthy habits and addictions is based in the discovery of our own true spiritual nature. When we are kids, our hearts smile and we find happiness in everything around us, and it is that happiness that we keep desiring as we journey through life. Beer has the quality to make us feel happy, it is the alcohol in it what keeps changing its culture.

There was a time when beer was even recommended to pregnant women, for the malt is good for breastfeeding. Then, sugar was added and in tandem with an abusive intake, health suffered. Motivated by a greedy capitalism, some beer makers having seen the convenience in low costs of mass production, and substituting original ingredients with sweeteners, have infused (or better said, confused) the people with beer that has no more than 50% ingredients that promote a natural fermentation which does good. The masses are lured by the sugar high. A true Brew-master will inspire you to ask yourself... What is beer?

Barley, hops, yeast and water are the ingredients that kept the Trappist monks nurtured during their fasting retreats. They could not eat, but they could drink liquid, so beer was brewed. Their first beer was described as light in alcohol and rather sweet. Still, the oldest beer recipe dates to Sumerian times. In Šumeru, “land of civilized kings”, a hymn was chanted to goddess Nikasi in which their beer Sikaru is described with phrases like “Bread is baked, turned to crumbs, a water mix is prepared, and a drink is created that makes joyful, extroverted, happy people.”

<<Alcohol>>, in Latin is <<spiritus>>; the same word is used for the highest religious experience as well as the most corrupting poison. In the admired Trappist beer tradition, brewing was done by the monks only, to ensure a sense

The art of aMaster Brewer

Have you ever met a Master Brewer? Imagine someone that loves science and smiles all the time. You might think this is because of the beer, but it would be more accurate to say the beer is what results from this Joie de vivre.

Scientists usually observe that which the rest of us take for granted, it is this quality of wisdom what makes them different. While society in general likes others to manufacture what they drink, brewers make their own beer.

The art of beer brewing is a unique expression of the moment in which it is created. Like a painting, the exact same beer can not be made twice even when using the same recipe, and sometimes not even by the same person. Practicing the science of chemistry, the ingredients are combined from taste, environmental conditions and personal experience. The primary flavors used might not even taste obvious in the finished barrel, for they serve only as the pallet for the artist to create an illusion of flavors that will taste gourmet. An Osiris elixir that to the drinker will translate either into a blur or the religious experience of a brew master.

Faraway Restaurant and LoungeAs a long time fan of Thai cuisine, I am always searching for a good curry. Us Cabo San Lucas locals are very familiar with Baan Thai...and also with the drive to San Jose to get some good Thai food. My search in Cabo San Lucas came to an end when I experienced Faraway, the latest concept from the creators of Baan Thai, Michael Buchalter and Carl Marts. Destino Magazine was kindly invited to this hip restaurant that blends classic Thai-Pan Asian tastes with a twist of contemporary cuisine that leaves patrons begging for more. For starters, the Seafood Dumplings that melt in your mouth. A staple in Thai food is the Spicy Beef Salad with lime dressing that is tangy and fresh; Faraway does a great job of keeping the authentic elements present. And for the main dish, Red Curry and Pad Thai noodles of course! Although our kind server highly recommended the duck...next time. Located one block from the main Cabo San Lucas drag, Faraway Restaurant and Lounge will transport you to an exotic place...somewhere faraway. - Tuesday to Sunday from 5 pm to 12 am, Thursday through Saturday open until 2 am - Esquina Ignacio Zaragoza y N Heroes (walk up the street where the Aramburo grocery store is)www.Farawayloscabos.com - (624) 196 0227 - facebook.com/farawayloscabos

A lifestyle for adventure, more than sedentary pleasure. Think water with all its marine romance. Sport fishing, diving, cruising, skiing, dancing, gadgets and toys, sunshine, cocktails & food, and hopefully happiness.

Nautical events, such as The Cabo Marine Show happening every year (this year in May 1-4) are great opportunities to meet with your yachting community. In 2013 the $15 Million motor vessel The Spirit of Two Thousand Ten, who was also the showcase yacht for the opening ceremonies at the Winter Olympics held in Canada in 2010, celebrates its debut as the only Mega Yacht for private charter in all of Los Cabos, launching tours aboard so visitors are able to get a feel for what it’s like to charter her for a day-trip or sunset cruise. You can also expect to mingle with exhibitors as prestigious as the Bisbee’s Black & Blue Tournaments team.

Wealth is associated with yachts, but it is not necessary. Besides rentals, options such as fractional ownership are available nowadays. After all, the world awareness is indeed evolving towards the appreciation of beauty and the possibility to enjoy a luxurious fun lifestyle is given to all those in tune with natural living.

Yachts ~ the lifestyle

The World is not enoughBy yeye

Travel, beautiful people, luxury and adventure. A lifestyle to fit the world of yachts can simply be described like this... James Bond.

Casino Royale(2006) featured the 108 Predator with appearances from the XS 2000 and Sportsfish 37; Halle Berry climbed on board a Superhawk 48 in Die Another Day (2002); and in The World is not Enough (1999) a Superhawk 34 sped down London’s River Thames at more than 60 mph in a thrilling boat chase, which became the longest-ever Bond pre-title sequence.

The importance of being versus doing is clearly the way of life of those who love yachts. After all, they are different from working ships mainly by their leisure purpose.

The term originated from the Dutch Jacht meaning “hunt”. In modern use the term designates two rather different classes of watercraft, sailing and power boats, but it was originally defined as a light fast sailing vessel used by the Dutch navy to pursue pirates and other transgressors around and into the shallow waters of the Low Countries. After its selection by Charles II of England as the vessel to Britain from Holland for his restoration, it came to be used to mean a vessel used to convey important persons.

Baja LOVES you. Until 1988, visiting yachtsmen had to post a bond equal to a150 percent of their vessel value to dock in Mexico, but with the help of some visionary lobbying and legislation this law has changed and today yachts are considered “temporary imports” for up to 10 years and you only have to pay a small fee for a permit in the first port of entry. The story of how it happened can be read in Yatchs International Magazine who published an article titled Looking Up at Baja, Mexico.

Los Cabos gives you extraordinary choices in Marinas. Puerto Los Cabos, less than half an hour from the international airport and 4 minutes from San Jose Colonial down Town, offers you a Mexican tranquility atmosphere, 200 slips, drystack, and a boatyard with 150 ton travel lift; IGY in Cabo San Lucas, features 380 slips and accommodates vessels up to 375 feet with a max 24 foot draft and boasts the highest quality services and amenities expected at a luxury yachting marina; in B.C.S Capital City of La Paz, Marina Cortez offers the latest in environmentally friendly design and Marina CostaBaja gives you the whole world in one place with all the conveniences and culture of an international destination.

Dedicated to a life of exploration, discovery, invention and teaching, R. Buckminster Fuller was driven by his intention “to make the world work for 100% of humanity, in the shortest possible time, through spontaneous cooperation without ecological offense or disadvantage of anyone.” And for this, he has become known as the father of sustainability.

Fuller commissioned W. Starling Burgess, a pioneering aeronautical engineer and renowned naval architect who designed several America’s Cup defender, to build a Bermuda-class sailing yacht, which he christened Little Dipper.

Synergy: The new moneyby yeye

Synergy is the interaction of multiple elements in a system to produce an effect different from or greater than the sum of their individual effects. The term synergy comes from the Greek word synergia from synergos, meaning “working together.”

“The accumulation of relevant knowledge, combined with the quantities of major recyclable resources that have already been extracted from the earth, have attained a critical level, such that competition for necessities is not necessary anymore. Cooperation has become the optimum survival strategy. “

Money has been for a while paper and coin. Technology has made of it numbers and, like numbers, what dominates is its virtual infinitum space; held in a plastic card. There is not enough paper to print the money societies talk about nowadays. This phenomena causes crisis all around the globe, but for the creative it is only the energy needed for evolution and new money is being used.

In this photo, I was in a “day of the death event” in Páscuaro, Michoacán. I was near the muelle (the dock) where people were getting on the boats to go out to the island of Janiztio, which is the centre of Day of the Death in Michoacán. This boy was participating in the dance called La danza de los viejitos, which is one of those Mexican contradictions because young boys do the dance imitating little weak old man. Making a rhythm with their wooden sandals with the guitars and their flutes and other instruments in the background, the little boys wear mask like the one in this photo and they dress like viejitos. The dance of old men is very funny, the boys have canes and they imitate very weak little old men. It’s a hilarious, wonderful Mexican dance. In a break in the dancing I started to photograph this boy and we sat down together, we had a good talk about what I do and what he does. He was smiling and laughing, but every time I lifted

My EXPERIENCE with TRADITIONAL MEXICO

the camera, he would make this very serious proud Mexican face. At some point some of his friends came by, they had baseball caps, skateboards and bicycles. They stop to say hello for a few minutes, then the 3 or 4 boys that were there went off on their adventure for Saturday while he looked as they went away. As I took this photograph I asked him, didn’t you kind of feel that you wanted to go with your friends? He looked at me and said: Those are my uncles and my father - indicating to the men in the photo - and when there is a fiesta, this is what we do. This is my experience with traditional Mexico.

Ancient concepts such as trade are becoming more and more present in the relationship with our neighbors and the idea of working in synergy is giving better and cleaner results than the old school competitive mentality.

Money is still money, the energy that moves the world, but it is not only paper and coin, or numbers alone. Money is art, food, energy, sustainable and healing practices, education and inspiring entertainment; all which transcends regardless of culture, because people believe in friendship and we all want a better world for our children.

Médano BeachMédano Beach is where the action is! “El Médano ” (as the locals call it) is a 2 mile stretch of hotels, restaurants and bars right on the sand and just steps from the water. It’s a swimmable and family friendly beach with endless options for souvenir shopping. All water sports are available and you will not lack the opportunity to run into someone offering you deals on activities. If you want to take a water taxi to Lover’s Beach, this is the spot to do it. Médano beach is everything but private, but its stunning view of land’s end and the vast entertainment options makes it a must-see.Location: In the heart of downtown Cabo San Lucas. You can walk through the east side of the marina or access it via Avenida del Pescador street.Tips: • Get prepared to be approached by souvenir vendors. If you’re not there for the

shopping, the only thing you can do is say “No Gracias!”• Prices don’t vary too much from one water sports rental place to another; just talk to

someone and break out those negotiation skills.

Lover’s Beach - Playa del AmorGetting to Lover’s Beach is an adventure in itself due to the fact that it’s only reachable by boat or kayak. The easiest way is to take a water taxi from the Cabo San Lucas Marina or Médano Beach. Prices are around $15.00 per person. Ask your captain to cruise by the arch and the sea lion rock for some great photo opportunities. Once you arrive you’ll notice the striking rock formations and caves that you will instantly want to go explore. Walk to the other side of the beach and you’ll now find yourself looking at the Pacific

Ocean; the locals call this Divorce Beach and this side is very dangerous for swimming because of its powerful undertow, so only swim on the Lover’s Beach side. Location: Land’s End beside the famous arch. Only accessible by boat.Tips: • There are a couple of vendors that offer beers and water but you won’t find any other

services.• A good idea is to spend the day at Médano Beach and take an hour or two to go

to Lover’s Beach; this should be enough time to explore and enjoy this natural wonderland.

Las ViudasLas Viudas (The Widows) beach is not visible from the road and is probably the most private beach you will find on this list. What makes it so unique are the rock formations that create pools and coves where you can have a private and peaceful beach day. This beach is swimmable with caution, but it is not recommended for young children.Location: Turn right at Km. 12.5 of the corridor and follow the dirt road down to the beach. There is a sign that reads “Las Viudas” but keep your eyes peeled because the entrance sneaks up on you. Tips: You won’t find any services or vendors so bring all your beach essentials with you.

Santa MaríaSanta María is a stunning horseshoe cove with coral coloured sand and an abundant marine life. Boat excursions and private charters often stop here to enjoy the snorkelling and scuba diving that this National Marine Preserve offers. This family friendly beach is relatively secluded, therefore you rarely run into beach vendors. Location: Follow the sign that reads “Santa María” and exit the highway at Km. 13. Follow the dirt road until you reach the parking area.Tips:• No services and hardly any shade. You can rent umbrellas on the beach, but if you

happen to have one bring it anyway.• Bring snorkelling gear!

MAGIC TOWNS - One of the Mexican Tourism Secretariat’s flagship programs in recent years has been its Magic Towns (Pueblos Mágicos) designation. The Islands Loreto, located on the Sea of Cortez, is one of two Magic Towns of South Baja California, along with Todos Santos. Mexico’s Magic Towns range from tiny, almost undiscovered villages on the coast to sizeable inland cities. What they all have in common is that they offer visitors a “magical” experience with their natural beauty, cultural riches, or historical relevance.

The city currently boasts a selection of hotels of 900 rooms of all categories. In the past three years, the municipality has installed several new hotel constructions, such as the recent opening of a new Grand Tourism hotel with 180 rooms. So far, Loreto is distinguished by being the only Magic Town that boasts an international airport.

South Baja California invested about $20 million pesos this year for the renovation of the pier in The Islands of Loreto. In the coming months, a similar investment is expected to finish the works on the site, with a federal and state budget.

The Magic Town program allows the leveraging of the uniqueness of localities to generate tourism products, based on the different expressions of local culture, handicrafts, traditional festivities, and gastronomy. Loreto was appointed by the state’s Secretariat of Tourism, Ruben Reache Lugo, and the addition of the city brings the number of designated Magic Towns in Mexico to 55.

The islands of Loreto brings together the beauty of its beaches, islands, and tourist activities including hunting, diving, sport fishing and golf, to name a few.

Chileno BayChileno is a very popular location for snorkelling, swimming or just spending the day under the newly installed palapas. You’ll find tide pools at the east end of the beach and beautiful reefs for excellent snorkelling and scuba diving. This is the only beach with rest rooms and it has plenty of palapas for shade which makes it a very family friendly beach. Location: Follow the signs for Chileno Beach Club near Km. 14 of the main highway.Tips: • If you visit Chileno on a weekend make an effort to arrive early; snorkelling visibility

is often better in the mornings, you’ll avoid the mid-day snorkel tours and if you beat the crowds you’ll be guaranteed a palapa for that much needed shade.

• Bring Snorkelling gear!

PalmillaPalmilla is known for its family friendly calm waters and mile long stretch of beach. Located within the resort community of Palmilla, you will find yourself surrounded by oceanfront luxurious homes, the One&Only Hotel and the world renowned Jack Nicklaus Ocean Nine golf course. Pangas and fishing cruisers are available for charter but you won’t find water sport rentals such as kayaks or jet skis.Location: Take the Palmilla ramp exit at KM 27. Follow the signs and turn into the main beach parking area before the entrance to the One&Only Hotel.Tips: • Palmilla is popular among local families on the weekends, so arrive early if you

want a palapa or bring your umbrella.• No services available.

Costa Azul If what you’re looking for is a good surf spot that doesn’t require driving out of town this is it. Head over to Zipper’s for a surf session and some lunch and beers at the restaurant. To the west of Zippers is Acapulquito beach where Cabo Surf Hotel and Mike Doyle surf school are located. You can find surf shops in the area where you can rent surf and SUP boards or set up lessons. The surf is bigger during the summer and in the winter it’s a good spot for snorkelling and swimming.Location: Exit at Km. 28 via the Costa Azul Bridge.Tips: Swimming with caution is possible in this area but keep your eye out for surfers.

La PlayitaLa Playita (the little beach) is a long stretch of beach where you will often find locals fishing from the shore and families with children enjoying the beach-front playground. On the right end of La Playita you will find a roped-off swimming area just outside the beautiful Puerto Los Cabos 500 slip marina entrance. To the left is the is the natural open beach where you can swim, skim-board and enjoy a peaceful beach day away from the crowds.Location: Follow the signs to La Playita/Puerto Los Cabos form Boulevard Mijares in downtown San José del Cabo (across from the fire department).Tips:• You will find new and well maintained bathrooms, palapas and fishing charters. • There are no food services directly on the beach, but there are several casual

restaurants in the surrounding area.

CerritosCerritos beach is a popular surf spot and swimming is relatively safe. The scenic 45 minute drive from Cabo San Lucas is well worth the trip as you drive along the pristine Pacific coast. The Cerritos Beach Club Restaurant is a perfect spot to spend a peaceful day on the beach or if you want to be active you can take a surf lesson at Baja Surf Camp or rent surf and boogie boards at the Costa Azul Surf Shop. Location: Exit at Km. 66 of the Cabo San Lucas - Todos Santos highway. Watch the markers as there is no sign. Drive about 1.7 miles to the beach area.Tips: Lounge chairs, restrooms, food and drinks are available at The Cerritos Beach Club Restaurant.

Rated number 8 in a New York Times article on “The 41 places to go in 2011,” Loreto, Mexico is a magical, untouched Baja paradise where the desert, mountains and sea meet. The destination offers the largest natural marine park in Mexico, with sea lions, exotic birds, dolphins and the annual migration of whales. From water sports and deep-sea fishing to cycling and swimming, The Islands of Loreto is an adventure-seeker’s dream.

La Primavera is here. Seasons, always changing, pass us by. Spring is time for joyful play, water and sunshine.

Hibiscus flower has grown for centuries around the rim of the Indian and Pacific oceans. Known in Mexico as Jamaica (pronounced hah-MIKE-ah) they are used to make refreshing delicious drinks. In Los Cabos you will find Hibiscus Tea, Hibiscus Water, Hibiscus Margaritas, Hibiscus infused Martinis. A Dried Hibiscus bag makes a great souvenir.

Tip:Hibiscus Healing Properties: Hibiscus flower essence energizes the first and second cakras, undoing blockages in the lower back and spine, and healing reproductive ailments, including infertility problems, frigidity or lack of feeling, as well as acting as a balm for long-held scars of sexual trauma. The essence assists in releasing pent up creative forces within the womb area and literally sets one free to dance again in life. The flower remedy stimulates sexuality and passion.

Bouldering route:THE JOURNEY A beautiful line on a collection of boulders right on the beach. Squeeze two aretes and balance your way to the top.

Top Rope route:BEACH ON THE PACIFIC Located on the northerly facing wall. Anchors can be accessed by scrambling up the backside. There are a few sets of bolts up top, which are suspect, but you can easily throw some webbing around a rock. There is a bolt at the bottom, this route starts about 15 feet to the left of it, and jogs right after 20 feet to gain the obvious line up the middle of the wall. The crux is a dyno/reach from a large under-cling pocket about 40 feet up. Route so named for the affliction that interrupted its development for a few days.

Conquering “problems”The beauty of rock climbing

There is something to stepping outside of others sense of the world, to actually see what kind of world you have built around yourself.

Rock climbing is beautiful. Those who practice it regularly see in it a microcosm of life. As climber Robyn Puro tells it, “The big lessons are the same, they just come in highly concentrated doses: Keep Ego in Check + Focus + Trust Yourself + commit = Success!”

Los Cabos, offers wonderful landscape for you to enjoy Traditional climbing, Sport climbing, and Bouldering.

Traditional Climbing is done by ascending rock walls that are protected with gear that is both placed and removed by the climbing party. Sport Climbing using permanent anchors placed in rock, is a climbing style that emphasizes gymnastic movement, difficulty, and safety. Bouldering is the rope-less pursuit of short difficult “problems” on boulders and small cliffs.

Bouldering is done everywhere. It is safe, playful and fun.

Somewhere along the way, climbing introduces us to ourselves. A “problem” catches the eye and a mind process towards clarity begins. You stare at the holds, press your cheek against the cool stone, and look skyward at the rock. Then you climb. Somehow, this practice prevents the mind from drag racing through the events that got you there to begin with.

Rock Climbing reminds you that what you do at each moment is essentially important. Not the moment five seconds ago; not the moment five seconds from now. Staying present, a “problem” has already been conquered.

The rock in Lover’s beach is granite. Rock is loose in some places due to the corrosive saltwater, but generally solid, large crystallized granite. You can walk down the beach from Solmar Hotel or Playa Grande, scrambling over two sets of rocks (20 minutes) or take a water taxi. The easterly facing wall just next to the water taxi drop off for the most part is very solid rock and cool lines.

Trad route:TAKE A BOW a steep, beautiful line on the left side of the wall, invites a sporty start to gain a thin crack, there is a fixed pin towards the top of the crack, it can be seen from the ground. From here continues up and just to the right of a large roof. Fantastic, sustained climbing. Protection: nuts and small cams (aliens blue through red), 1 fixed pin. Bolted anchor. Descent Options: Rappel or scramble off backside.

2013 is the Year of the Comet. Two potentially bright comets are headed our way: Comet PanSTARRS in early spring and Comet ISON in late fall. Also, there are plenty of bright planets and showers of shooting stars to keep us looking up all year long.

April 28th: Saturn at oppositionOnce every 378 days, the Earth gains a lap on the sluggish planet Saturn and passes directly between Saturn and the Sun, placing the two planets as close together as possible. This alignment of worlds is called opposition. When Saturn reaches opposition April 28th, it will be 820-million miles from Earth, its closest point in 2013. Saturn will rise in the eastern sky at sunset and shine brightly in our sky all night long near the border between the constellations of Libra and Virgo, not far from Virgo’s brightest star, Spica.

A telescope of any size aimed at Saturn will reveal the beautiful system of rings encircling its equator and the largest of its 62 moons, planet-size Titan. After presenting themselves edgewise to Earth in 2009 and briefly disappear-ing from view, the rings have been opening up to us again in all their splendor. So point that telescope at Saturn this April. You won’t believe your eyes.

DrivingRenting a car will let you enjoy the freedom of exploring the Los Cabos area without having to depend on taxis. Driving in Mexico might be intimidating to some, but if you just go with the muddled flow, you will realize that there actually is some organization within the chaos. Here are some tips if you’re behind the wheel:Road Signage - Most signs are self explanatory, but here are a few that might need interpretation:

Gas stations - There are two types of gasoline: Magna or verde (green) which is regular and Premium or roja (red). Lleno means full. Tipping the attendant around $10.00 pesos (less than a dollar) is customary.

Money and CurrencyExchange rates - Dollars are accepted almost everywhere and you will most likely get your change back in pesos. The exchange rate varies every day, but some places have a set rate of $12.00 pesos to $1.00 dollar.Cash or Card? - Visa, Mastercard and American Express credit cards are generally accepted but you often run into cash only places, especially at restaurants, so always carry cash or ask before.

ATMs - There are many ATMs all over Cabo. Some only give you dollars, some only pesos and some give you the option of pesos or dollars in one. Pay close attention to what currency you’re withdrawing. Try to get as much cash as possible in one transaction to avoid paying more commissions. Commissions on the street ATMs are higher than going to a bank’s ATM.

The basics for foreign investment revolves around the method of purchase available for foreigners, a bank trust called the “Fideicomiso”. The Mexican government realized they needed to make foreign investment available in Mexico and passed the Foreign Investment Act of 1993. Since the Mexican Constitution prohibits foreigners from owning property within 60 miles of the U.S. border, or within 30 miles off the coastline (as Los Cabos is), a secure form of holding title was needed and created with the implementation of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) in 1994. The “Fideicomiso” is a trust, just like an estate trust in the

You’ve been to Cabo a few times and with our perfect weather year-around, beautiful beaches, stunning sunsets, and attractive lifestyle, you are now considering a more permanent move to Cabo. You are not alone! In the past 10 years, thousands of residents in Cabo have migrated from the United States and Canada making Los Cabos their home. U.S., which gives the Purchaser all rights of ownership and is the legal equivalent of Deeded Property, as we refer to it in the States. In order to obtain rights of ownership, the Department of Foreign Affairs in Mexico City issues a permit to the Mexican bank of the buyer’s choice, which allows the bank to act as “Purchaser” of the property. Simply put, the bank acts as the “Trustee” for the trust and the Purchaser is the “Beneficiary” of the trust. The trust is not an asset of the bank - the banks only act as the Trustee to hold the trust.

Just like living wills and estate trusts in the U.S., the Mexican bank, or Trustee, takes instruction only from the Beneficiary of the trust. The Beneficiary has the right to use, occupy, lease/rent and possess the property, including the right to build and improve the property as well. The Beneficiary may also sell the property by transferring the rights to another individual. The term of the trust is 50 years, but the trust can be renewed for additional periods of 50 years indefinitely, thus allowing long term control over the property.

Another question that is popular is about financing for foreigners. Mortgages are currently available to Mexicans with many of the major national Mexican banks, and the loans are done in pesos. However, currently there is little to no availability for traditional financing through American banking institutions. Some hard money lenders are available, but interest rates can easily be in the double digits. What many buyers are exploring now is “seller financing”. In some cases, seller’s offer financing on their property with specific terms that depend on down-payment, interest rate, and length of financing. This is becoming a more popular trend in Cabo, but it is only offered on a case by case basis and depends entirely on the seller’s willingness to finance a buyer and required terms.
