TRAINING FOR THE ‘ W HEN’, NO T ‘IF’
No one can predict medical events. That’s why our medical instructors train you for the ‘when’, not
‘if’. The maritime training courses available from MedAire and Yacht Lifeline will provide your crew
the knowledge and skills necessary to successfully respond to medical events.
From a one-day first aid lesson for new deck hands to a week-long course for your designated medical officer, we o�er a variety of training options, including custom ones like Paediatric First Aid On Board .
Developed by medical experts who understand remote medical care – as well as stringent maritime regulations – we provide hands-on, comprehensive medical instruction, specifically tailored to the maritime environment.
MedAire’s STCW 95 training is credentialed and audited by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) and U.S. Coast Guard.
With our global reach and local presence, we o�er flexibility when it’s time to schedule training for your crew. Training can be provided on board your yacht or at an approved training facility almost anywhere in the world.
During training, your crew will:
• Work with experienced instructors who understand
the unique challenges you face at sea and ashore
• Learn to recognise, manage and cope with common
and emergency illnesses and injuries
• Develop patient assessment techniques based on
real-life scenarios

and equipment and learn where they are located

AED usage

Whilst at sea or travelling, crew and guests are prone to the
same medical issues that occur at home, plus they have greater
exposure to local diseases due to food, water or insects.
24/7 maritime medical consults. Ensure your guests and
crew receive the best care available by having them evaluated
before the issue worsens. By calling our dedicated MedLink
hotline, they’ll receive advice from one of 40+ doctors who
manage nearly 100 cases a day. And, because MedLink is a
part of a hospital’s emergency room, we’re fully sta�ed and
ready to take calls, at any time of day. In fact, our average
doctor response time is under a minute!
Occupational consults. It’s tough when you’re a person
down due to crew illness. That’s why, when it comes to
occupational health matters, we evaluate crew thoroughly,
getting them back on the job as quickly as possible.
Access to specialists. High-risk cases such as a spinal injury
or poisoning may require additional advice from a specialist.
At MedLink, we have immediate access to in-house specialists
from all fields of medicine. And, we have access to medical
interpretation in more than 140 languages – just in case.
Help ashore. You might not know where to turn for
adequate healthcare when you’re travelling. This is where
we come in. Via the phone, we’ll make an initial assessment
and arrange for a local doctor, assist with transportation
and guarantee payment of medical expenses.
Provider network. From specialist doctors to charter aircraft
and local hospitals, our world-class network providers are the
backbone of our operations. Our 68,000 providers all meet
our rigid vetting and credentialing process, including
on-site inspections.
Medications. To minimise the disruption of a trip, a patient
may obtain a temporary supply of medications. MedLink
will coordinate with a local pharmacy (on the guidance of
the patient’s physician) or arrange for them to be seen by a
local doctor to obtain a prescription.
Medical escorts. For special medical needs, we will assist
with staffing an onboard medical escort for short- or long-
term assignments.
Medical monitoring. In the event of hospitalisation, we’ll
ensure quality care by remaining in regular contact with
the crew, the medical facility sta� and, as needed, with
the treating doctor. We’ll provide reports on the patient’s
progress until he/she can return home (or to the yacht) safely.
A ccess to medical transportation. If both our doctors
and your owner or management company believe a
patient’s medical needs are better met in another location,
a medical escort or evacuation will be coordinated.
A ccount management. Keeping every patient’s medical
matters and whereabouts confidential, your personal
account manager will follow up after each case to ensure
you are totally satisfied.
