Summer, 2018 Dear Designer: We would like to take this opportunity to invite you to participate in Project Return’s fall fundraising event, the Gather ‘Round the Table Luncheon, scheduled for October 17, 2018, at the stunning Shorehaven Golf Club in Norwalk, CT. The sell-out Luncheon event, attended by 240 women from Westport and surrounding Fairfield County towns, has become a yearly much-anticipated community happening. All proceeds are utilized to support Project Return’s mission of assisting young women in crisis from throughout Connecticut who are experiencing homelessness. Our emphasis is on helping each young woman become self- sufficient; this includes support in finding more permanent housing and employment, referral for medical treatment, substance abuse management, financial and budgeting assistance, exploration of educational opportunities, and connection to a variety of state and federal benefits. Each year 20 designers and home stores create individual “tablescapes” for 72 inch round tables of 12. Designs may (but not necessarily) include tablecloths, overlays, dishes, glasses, napkins, centerpieces, or any other items the designer wishes to provide to reflect his or her particular aesthetic. Designs can be simple, elaborate, whimsical, elegant, or sophisticated. Ultimately, they should be inviting, the way we expect home to be, since Project Return is about finding a home for those who are not fortunate enough to have one. During the Luncheon guests purchase raffle tickets for tables that they would like to win; one winner, selected through a blind drawing at the conclusion of the Luncheon, wins the entire contents of the table design. Everything on the table donated by you, the designer, is given to the winner. We also ask that each designer provide a simple token favor for each of the twelve guests seated at the table. Raffles tickets have become a significant source of income from the event and are therefore critical to its success. We hope that you will join us “at the table” this year. Together, we will make a difference in the lives of young women in need. Best Regards, Karen and Alison Karen Spheeris and Alison Dembo Designer Co-Chairs, Gather ‘Round the Table Luncheon

Nearly 240 guests filled the Shorehaven Golf Club in Norwalk to celebrate Project Return’s Gather ’Round the

Table Luncheon. Each table was beautifully arranged by both local designers and home stores to reflect the power of home and healing. That sentiment was echoed by a former Project Return resident who spoke about her journey to independence, safety and security. The luncheon was preceded the night before by a festive cocktail party, with almost 100 guests in attendance. The event also marked the first anniversary of the merger between Project Return and Homes with Hope, two longstanding Westport nonprofits.

The Westport Farmers’ Market hosted a magical evening to support its day-to-day operations, along with its outreach

and education initiatives. Nearly 200 people attended Party in the Parking Lot, which was held on the grounds of Gilbertie’s Herbs and Garden Center. Chefs Christian Petroni and Bill Taibe dished out their delicious favorites while guests dined and the Black Rock Front Band performed. The event raised approximately $22,000, which will support the market and its programs, including Farmer to School to Community, Get Growing, Young Shoots and Bridgeport Rescue Mission. —Allison White

Project Return just completed its first full year as an 8-bed shelter program for young homeless women aged 18 -24. It is one of only a few programs in the state that provides safe shelter for this particularly vulnerable, often invisible, and

under-served population. In 2017 Project Return was able to reach 27 young ladies who were living on the streets, in cars or abandoned buildings and transform their lives. They are now living in their own apartments, have reunited with family or friends,

continued their education and found gainful employment.

“I became homeless after fleeing an abusive relationship. I knew I had to get out but I had nowhere to go but I left anyway and wandered the streets stay-ing up all night because it didn’t feel safe to close my eyes. Thankfully, I was able to go to Project Return. My goals, while I was there, included finding secure housing, getting a job and get-ting my GED. Project Return helped me to get a job, gain social skills, and learn how to be more independent. Within 3 months they helped me find and move into my own apartment where I have been living ever since. With the help and support of Project Return I have come out on the other side. I am working, living in my own place, and have more positive people in my life!”

“What has helped me the most, what has been most valuable, is that since coming to Project Return I have significantly more faith in humanity than I did before. I became hopeful and motivated. Now I am working and living in my own apartment.”

Our clients are able to rewrite their stories because of your generosity.Thank you for your support.

“I am seen as an individual and so I am treated individually. This makes it easier for me to be on a positive path for my long term success.”

“Being at Project Return, I did not feel homeless even though I was. I felt rich, empowered, and sure things would only get better. I thank everyone at Project Return and Homes with Hope for making my life so much better.”
