8. 8. ENERGY EFFICIENCY

The “Energy Efficiency” analysis is designed for energy managers for easy and prompt access to information on the inefficient use of energy. The tool provides users with relevant information on energy and water consumption in relation to the consumption-dependent variables (such as temperature deficit, temperature excess, production quantity).

The “Energy Efficiency” tool provides the generation of the following (sub)analyses:

• Characteristic indicator;• M&T chart;• CuSum.

Picture 22: Path to the “Energy Efficiency” tool

Main tool functionalities:

• Monitoring the consumption per product unit, temperature deficit and other independent variables• Monitoring the energy consumption efficiency• Triggering an alarm in the event of inefficient energy use• Evaluation of energy savings (in energy and money)• Generating reports• Exporting reports

8.1. CHARACTERISTIC INDICATOR

Picture 23: The “Characteristic Indicator” tool

Page 18: DESCRIPTION OF THE GEMALOGIC SOFTWARE PLATFORM · 2018-08-08 · DESCRIPTION OF THE GEMALOGIC SOFTWARE PLATFORM (Monitoring and energy efficiency module) Solvera Lynx d.o.o. Stegne

15

The Characteristic Indicator or specific consumption demonstrates the value of energy consumption per product unit or benchmark hour, or any other independent variable.

Monitoring & Targeting (M&T) analyses provide the target monitoring of energy consumption or Monitoring and Targeting (M&T) to be introduced and used.

M&T analysis is an advanced analysis that demonstrates the dependency of two types of data–the dependent and independent variable. It is the key analysis of energy efficiency and enables users to set target lines for the desired energy consumption.

The target line is a linear function that links the independent variable (production, temperature shortage, etc.) and the energy consumption that is dependent on it, in a specified time interval. It therefore defines how much energy may be consumed at a certain level of production.

Upon the selection of the parameters, the M&T chart is generated in the analysis, and a table containing values below it (Figure 8). An independent variable lies on the x axis of the chart and the dependent variable on the y axis.

The analysis draws a regression line that represents the average connection of the points displayed.

The two main factors are the dispersion of points (R2) and the inclination of the line. The point where the regression line crosses the ordinate (y) indicates the quantity of the energy product consumption which is independent from the production volume.

A great dispersion of points around the regression line demonstrates that other factors also effect the codependency between the compared variables. One of the factors that affect the dispersion may also be the human factor or uncontrolled losses. The introduction of target monitoring of energy consumption provides the reduction in use of energy products and decreases energy costs.

8.2. MONITORING & TARGETING CHART

Picture 24: “M&T chart” tool

Page 19: DESCRIPTION OF THE GEMALOGIC SOFTWARE PLATFORM · 2018-08-08 · DESCRIPTION OF THE GEMALOGIC SOFTWARE PLATFORM (Monitoring and energy efficiency module) Solvera Lynx d.o.o. Stegne

16

In addition to the drawn regression line, the analysis enables the target line to be determined in relation to past consumption, namely:• the target line should be lower than the regression line by X% of the demonstrated trend,• the target line should be equal to the trend of X% of the best values displayed,• target line may also be set manually given the prescribed indicators (benchmarking)

8.3. CUSUM CHART

Once the target line is set, the efficiency of the target set can be monitored regularly with the CUSUManalysis (CUmulative SUM deviation).

The Cumulative Sums analysis is a statistical technique that defines the deviations between actual energy consumption and the target value that we have set in the M&T chart. The CUSUM analysis therefore directly depends on the selected target value of the typical energy consumption–target line.

A rising curve represents a negative trend–we are regressing from the target value. On the contrary, a falling curve is a sign of a successful trend. The points below the x axis–negative values mean that we achieved the targets. A greater inclination of increase or decrease represents the intensity of this (in)efficiency.
