• National project including NZ – State and Territory Education Ministers

• 2001 – 2009 • High quality online educational

content for T – 12 (over 6, 200 items)

– Free for education (schools and tertiary)

– License free

Two types of engaging content

Chunks of digital material - graphics,

text, audio, animation, interactive

• Moving image clips, documents, line drawings, paintings or maps, photographs or audio files of songs or broadcasts.• Licensed from a range of cultural institutions, including the National Film and Sound Archive, National Library of Australia and CSIRO.

Learning design embedded – specific learning outcomes; scoffolded; feedback; promote higher order thinking

No embedded learning design – include descriptions, interpretations of their educational value teachers decide how to use them.

How do I access TLF content?

• Scootle – Online system for teachers only

- Find TLF content > save content > provide access to students

• Scootle Manager (for each school) Registration email register with your ntschools email address

• Do not share your Scootle login

Scootling Tips

• Run the Software Analyser – from Scootle and TLF homepage– Ensures your computer has correct software to run

learning objects– Give instructions to parent so they can run the

analyser on their home computer• Pop up blocker – Turn off• TLF catalogues – on Scootle home page - great for browsing for suitable

content to support your program• TLF Updates - monthly - latest TLF news + other interesting stuff

Assessment learning objects

• Developed as a result of requests from teachers• Learning objects – designed to teach concepts and

skills• Assessment learning objects – based on a set of

learning objects but ASSESS what students have learned as a result of using the learning objects.

- provide teachers with assessment data

• All have ‘assessment’ as part of title• Scootle Advanced search > select ‘Title only’ and

enter “assessment”.• More and more assessment LOs being developed in

literacy, numeracy and Science.
