Caused by: Any 1 of 4 closely related viruses:

DEN-1, DEN-2, DEN-3, or DEN-4

Dengue Fever:Dengue : pronounced den' gee

These mosquitoes lives nearhuman habitations where they breedin even the cleanest water.

Incubation period: fever comes within8 days of mosquito bite.

More severe form of dengue.

Can be fatal if unrecognized& not properly treated.

Each yearover 100 million casesof Dengue worldwide

How dengue fever & DHF spread ?

Aedes mosquito becomes infected with dengue virus when it bites a person who has dengue or DHF

After about a week it can transmit the virus while biting a healthy person.

Dengue cannot be spread directly from person to person.

What is the treatment for

dengue?There is no specific medication fortreatment of a dengue infection.

Persons who think they have dengueshould use pain relievers&avoid aspirin.

Rest

Drink plenty of fluids

Consult a physician.

Is there an effective treatment for denguehemorrhagic fever (DHF)?

As with dengue, there is nospecific medication for DHF.

It can however be effectivelytreated by fluid replacementtherapy if an early clinicaldiagnosis is made.

There is no vaccine againstdengue fever.
