1515

The teacher is good at explaining things, he uses a lot of examples and draws on the blackboard

13

Good teaching style/behaviorThe teacher is speaking in a good pace

1313

When an exercise is hard, it is nice that the teacher writes some of it and shows it on the projector

12

Easy to follow instructionsFrankly help to students

99

Teaching from the shallow to the deeper, so we have a good understanding

8

You explain the exercises on the projector 8

Positive statements”We like the Exercises” # Agree

Exercises for every lessons 16

We have a lot of related exercisesGood amount of small exercises

1312

ExercisesThe difficulty does not get too hard from exercise to exercise

1111

It is nice to make exercises afterwards the teaching (step by step) 11

Great descriptions of exercises – also comments in code are good 9

Exercises and home work 7

Page 6: Delphi Evaluation Results PBA Back-End development, Autumn 2012

Positive statements”We like the Solutions to Exercises, and the class website in general”

# Agree

All exercises are on the website along with your notes – easy to work on it at home

14

Solutions on teachers homepageSolution for every exercise

1414

To put solutions on teachers website is very good 13

Positive statements”We like the larger, one-day project” # Agree

Good ”sum-up” assignment (CasinoSimulator) 9

Nice project (just after the vacation) – good for repetition 8

The ”whole-day” test was a very good experience, since I have learned a lot that day

6

Positive statements”We also like…” # Agree

Gives much knowledge about C# 8

Everything is good 6

Boolean (?) 3

Page 9: Delphi Evaluation Results PBA Back-End development, Autumn 2012

”Could be better” - statementsRepetition # Agree

Could use some more exercises on the same subject – it is going very fast 11

More repetition from time to time – so it’s easier to remember 10

Need more examples to prove 8

Revision for poor studentWould be better if we got time for revision of basic parts

53

”Could be better” - statementsVariation in teaching style # Agree

We have different background. So please tell us some more knowledge about programming logic

11

Working in groups 5

Want one vast assignment again which covers a whole day, make all perfect instead of many small

4

Sometimes it is hard to concentrate the whole day. Maybe we could do some group presentations for some assignments

3

The teacher should use different ways to work, since it can be too much the same each week (teach->exercise->teach->exercise.>…)

3

Page 11: Delphi Evaluation Results PBA Back-End development, Autumn 2012

”Could be better” - statementsTime/difficultly of exercises # Agree

We need more time to do the exercisesMore explanation in the solved versions of the exercises

88

Sometimes it would be nice if the text in the exercises were a bit more detailed

7

Exercises is a little bit hardThe exercises can sometimes be difficult to solve

75

More exercises 2

Page 12: Delphi Evaluation Results PBA Back-End development, Autumn 2012

”Could be better” - statementsExercise management # Agree

Sometimes the solutions to the exercises are given too fast 8

Sometimes when you say ”work with this exercise”, you tell the solution very soon after we begin – you should wait

6

When Per has written some of the code in an exercise (only the begin-ning), sometimes we move on to see the whole code a bit too quickly

5

Page 13: Delphi Evaluation Results PBA Back-End development, Autumn 2012

”Could be better” - statementsCourse logistics # Agree

It is too early to get to school at winter 12

”Could be better” - statementsCourse context (link to other courses) # Agree

Did not have much more link about learn it by ourselves 8

Does not combine with other subjects 6

Make the project by myself – not just understand 2

Page 15: Delphi Evaluation Results PBA Back-End development, Autumn 2012

”Could be better” - statementsOther issues… # Agree

We need more (socket?) 7

More cake 5

Syntax rules 3

We are very quiet 2

Conclusions – Positive statements

• Students seem generally satisfied with– The teacher– The teaching style– Exercises and resources

• But..– Are exercises clear enough?– Should we also have ”home work” exercises?– Is there enough attention to weaker students?

Page 17: Delphi Evaluation Results PBA Back-End development, Autumn 2012

Conclusions – ”could be better” statements

• Need a better introduction to programming on a ”conceptual” level, since it is new to many students

• Pace might be a bit too high – more time for exercises• Need to spend more time on repetition-oriented activities• More variation in classroom activities (e.g. group work)• More ”patience” on the teachers side when doing exercises –

don’t show solution too soon• Clearer link to other courses• Starting very early in the morning…
