What is UVGI and how does it operate ?

Ultra Violet Germicidal Irradiation (UVGI) is the use ofultraviolet (UV) energy (electromagnetic radiation with a wavelength shorter than that of visible light) to kill or inactivate microbes (viral, bacterial, and fungal species).

The UV spectrum is commonly divided intoUVA, UVB and UVC. Theentire UV spectrum cankill or inactivate micro organisms, but UVChas the best germicidalproperties peaking at265nm. Aeropure UVlamps are optimized toproduce maximum UVCin the temperature rangeof 10-50 oC

UVGI System for Air Handling Units of HVAC forPower Savings and Indoor Air Quality

Application of UVGI in various industries:

Watmizer is a UVGI (UltraViolet GermicidalIrradiation) System to beinstalled in Air HandlingUnits of HVAC. The reason for installingWatmizer is to overcomethe following usual problems encounteredwith Air conditioningand RefrigerationSystems, commissionedwithout any UVGI.

Increasing Electricity Consumption:The condensation of moisture from ambient air passing around the cooling coils creates a condition encouraging growth of algae, mold, mildue, bacteria and viruses leading to fouling of theair passage. Due to this the resistance to the air flowincreases progressively and reduces the heat transfer efficiency of the coil, leading to increasedelectric power consumption of the HVAC system.

Deteriorating Indoor Air Quality (IAQ): The contamination of the air while passing over thecoil and contamination from the work place, deteriorates the IAQ leading to Sick BuildingSyndrome and increased sickness of the inhabitantsof the building. In case of cold storages, it leads tocontamination and deterioration of vegetable orfood products.

Duct Zapper®

Air Disinfection and for Stench Removal

Aeropure UV Systems supplies Duct Zapper, an UltraViolet (UV) based product designed for originalfitment or retrofitting in ducts usually for the purposeof eliminating bad odours of Kitchen Exhaust, ToiletExhausts, Sewage Treatment Plant etc. This productfinds a wide application and acceptance in Hotelsand Hospitality Industry as well as for Hospitals andIndustrial Canteens, Public Toilets etc.

How does a DUCT ZAPPER work?

Bad odours are largelycaused by Volatile OrganicCompounds (VOC’s). TheUV lamps used in DuctZapper are very specialand capable of producingozone by a photochemicalreaction, along with normal germicidal 254nmUV light. Ozone oxidizesVOCs and converts theminto traces of water andcarbon dioxide, while254nm UV kills bacteria andother microbes. Thus ozonedestroys odours and 254nmUV disinfects the air.

Watmizer-MiniA UVGI system installed in Fan Cooling Unit

Watmizer Mini is installed in the Fan Cooling Unit(FCU) near the fan or the coil. It reduces the maintenance of the coil by eliminating growth ofmold and fungi on the coil leading to improvementin the IAQ. This system is ideally suited for hotels.

Watmizer - VRVIn a VRV system of central AC unit, a controlledamount of ozone is generated at the entrance offresh air intake duct. This is done by passing theintake air over a bank of ozone forming UV lamps. The ozone bearing fresh air is delivered with each ofthe VRV cooling coil. Thus a controlled injection ofozone improves IAQ by oxidation of VOCs andreduces the requirement of fresh air, leading toimprovement in the overall energy efficiency of theAC system.

The Watmizer - VRV is similar to Duct Zapper but it isinstalled at the entrance of the fresh air intake ductand not inside the duct.

Aire-o-PureA wall mounted unit for Air Disinfection

Aire-o-Pure is a wall mounted unit which can beused in any room to improve IAQ. Aire-o-Pure primarily consists of a UV lamp and a blower to circulate the air over the UV lamp to destroy bacteria, viruses, mold and fungi.
