QUESTION WORDS

An interrogative word or question word is a function word

used to ask a question, such as what, which, when, where, who, whom, whose, why, whether and how. They are sometimes called

wh-words, because in English most of them start with wh-.They may be used in both direct questions (Where is he going?) and in indirect questions (I wonder where she is going.)

Example : What, Where, When, How, Why and Who are called question words.

Sentence 1 What is your name ?

In this sentence ,what helps us to give information.

Sentence 2 Where is your house ?

In this sentence, where helps us to know the places.

In this sentence , when helps us to find the correct

time to do things.

QUESTIONS WITH AUXILIARY WORDS

Auxiliary (or helping) verbs suchas is,

am,are,has,have,had,would,could,can,may,do,does,did, etc. are also used to ask a question or make queries. Such

question can be answered in ‘yes’ or ‘no’. They do not need to have full sentence answers.

Example:

Is he a kind man ?

Are they playing ?

Do like to eat mangoes?

THE COMMA A comma is a punctuation mark that indicates a pause in a sentence or separates items in a list. The comma(,) is also used within the sentence to give extra information about someone or something. It is also used to separate a noun of address . Examples: The fruit salad has oranges, apples, guavas, grapes and pears in it. Next, we will go skiing. My dog, boo, loves to roll in the snow. Maria read the paper, but she didn’t believe it. We will learn about the addition of 4-digit numbers (without carrying and with carrying). We know how to add 2 or 3-digit numbers without carrying or with carrying. Now we will apply the same method when we add two 4-digit numbers (without carrying and with carrying) and three 4-digit numbers (without carrying and with carrying). The numbers which are added are called addends and the result obtained is called sum. With carrying

Add ones i.e., 7 + 3 = 10. Write 0 below in ones column and carrying 1 into the tens column.

Adding tens 1 1 3 7 6 7 + 5 8 5 3 2 0

Add tens i.e., 1 + 6 + 5 = 12. Write 2 below in tens column and carrying 1 into the hundreds column.

Adding hundreds 1 1 3 7 6 7 + 5 8 5 3 6 2 0

Add hundreds i.e., 1 + 7 + 8 = 16. Write 6 below in hundreds column and carrying 1 into the thousands column.

Stem

The stem is the main part of the shoot. Different plant have different types of

stem. Branches, leaves, buds, flowers and fruits grow on the stem. It has

many important functions.

Functions of stem

The stem gives support to the plant.

The stem carries water and nutrients from the roots to the leaves.

The stem also carries the food made by the leaves to all parts of the

plant.

The stem of some plants such as sugarcane store the food made by the

plant.

Trees like mango and banyan have thick and strong stem. This type of stem is

called trunk.

TRUNK

Some plants need support to stand upright and grow properly. These plants

have weak and thin stem. For examples, money plant, sweat pea and bitter

gourd.

Some plants grow along the ground. These plants have weak stems.

Generally they have heavy fruits. They cannot grow upright.

Leaf

Leaves are called the kitchen and food factory of a plant because they

prepare food for the plant using water, air and sunlight.

PARTS OF LEAF

Chlorophyll – The green coloured pigment present in the leaves is called

chlorophyll.

It helps to trap sunlight.

Photosynthesis- The process by which green plants make their food in the

presence of water, carbon dioxide and sunlight.

Stomata- Tiny pores present on the leaves. It helps in the exchange of gases.

Functions of leaves

The most important function of a leaf is to make food for the

plant.

Leaves help the plants to breathe.

Leaves of some plants such as cabbage and spinach store

food.

While making food, leaves give out a gas called oxygen.

Oxygen is important for the survival of all living things.

Germination – The process of development of a new plant from a

seed.

FLOWER

Flowers are the most beautiful parts of the plants. They are of different

colours, shapes and sizes. These are the most attractive part of a plant.

FRUIT

Most fruits have seeds inside them. Some have only one seed,

some have few seeds, while some have many seeds.

Function of fruits

The main function of the fruit is to protect the seed.

A seed contains a baby plant and its food.
