IN BRIEF

Gujarat told to provide security to Bhatt, family

New Delhi/Ahmedabad, Oct 4 (IANS) The central govern-ment Tuesday asked the Gujarat government to provide adequate security to police officer Sanjiv Bhatt, arrested on charges of insubordination, and his family. The home ministry instructions to Gujarat came hours after an Ahmedabad court reserved, for Oct 7, its orders on the state's revision petition against the judicial remand of the officer after Bhatt refused the court's suggestion of granting bail if he underwent a three-hour police remand. Bhatt had recently levelled al-legations against Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi in con-nection with the 2002 riots post the burning of Karsewaks travel-ling by the Sabarmati Express in Godhra.

More than a third of Karnataka declared drought-hitBangalore, Oct 4 (IANS) The Karnataka government Tues-day declared 70 taluks (revenue subdivisions) out of the state's 176 taluks drought-hit and will approach the central government soon for financial help. The decision to declare 70 taluks in 21 out of the 30 districts was taken at a meeting of ministers and senior officials of the affected districts, Chief Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda said.

Goa mining scam: PAC blames officials, politicians nexusPanaji, Oct 5 (IANS) Goa's Public Accounts Committee (PAC) looking into the Rs.3,500 crore illegal mining industry is believed to have zeroed in on the nexus between politicians, bureaucrats, police and forest department officials, sources said Wednesday. The report, to be tabled in the two-day monsoon session begin-ning Wednesday, has, however, not named a single politician ex-cept Nationalist Congress Party leader Jitendra Deshprabhu, recently imprisoned in an illegal mining case, sources said.

Anna issues ultimatum to Congress; Battle lines drawn

Ralegan Siddhi/New Delhi, Oct 4 (IANS) No bill, no support. Draw-ing the battlelines, social crusader Anna Hazare Tuesday said he would resume his movement for the Jan Lokpal bill with the Oct 13 by-elec-tion in Hisar in Haryana where he would campaign against the Con-gress.The Congress termed his remarks as unfortunate, while party general secretary Rahul Gandhi asserted that corruption can be fought only through the political system. Taking on the Congress, Hazare said at a press conference in his vil-lage in Ralegan Siddhi, in Maha-rashtra's Ahmednagar district, that his campaign for a strong anti-graft Jan Lokpal (ombudsman) bill would continue after Dussehra. And if the Congress blocked the law, he would ask people not to vote for it.

Hazare also hit out at Prime

M i n i s t e r Manmohan Singh for be-ing "remote controlled".

"Depend-ing on my schedule, I shall go to Hisar and hold a cou-

ple of public meetings there. If not I shall send a video message to the people of Hisar explaining how the Congress has blocked the Jan Lokpal (ombudsman) bill and urge them not to vote for the party," Hazare de-clared.

He said civil society activists had written to all the major candidates contesting the Hisar by-poll asking them whether or not they supported the Jan Lokpal bill, Team Anna's ver-sion of the anti-graft bill.

"While a majority of them have already replied in the affirma-tive, there is no response from the Congress. If the Congress does not clarify its stand in the next couple of days, then after Dussehra (Oct 6), I plan to go to Hisar," Hazare said.

The agitation would then be taken to Uttar Pradesh and to Punjab, Goa, Uttarakhand and Manipur, where assembly elections are due next year,

to force the United Progressive Alli-ance (UPA) government to "live up to its promise" of passing Team An-na's version of the Lokpal bill.

"If, as the UPA has assured, the bill is not passed during the ensu-ing winter session of parliament, we shall name the Congress and urge people not to vote for it," Hazare as-serted, virtually giving an ultima-tum to the government.

The Congress was quick to react. Law Minister Salman Khurshid said in New Delhi that citizens were free to vote for anybody. And Abhishek Singhvi, who heads the parliamen-tary standing committee looking into the Jan Lokpal bill and other versions of the Lokpal bill, said the panel was not in a confrontationist mood.

"It is their decision. Every citizen is free to vote for anybody. Con-gress will only do its work, perform its duties and Congress will then go back to people when the duty is per-formed," Khurshid said.

Speaking at a Youth Congress convention in Delhi, Rahul Gan-dhi said people talk of corruption but it can be fought through demo-cratic means. "If you want to fight corruption, then this can only be done through the political system, through democratic means," he said.

On 22nd day, no end in sight to Telangana strike

Hyderabad, Oct 4 (IANS) With the centre not giving any assurance on carving a separate Telangana state out of Andhra Pradesh, the indefinite 'people's strike' in the region went into its 22nd day Tuesday with no end in sight.

Over 800,000 employees of the gov-ernment, workers of the state-owned Singareni Collieries and Road Trans-port Corporation (RTC) and teachers continued to stay away from work.

Coal production in the Singareni mines, spread over four districts, re-

mained crippled while buses of RTC were off the roads in Hyderabad and nine other dis-tricts for the 16th day. Reeling under a power crisis due to the ongoing strike by coal workers in Telangana, the state Tuesday received some respite with the central government agreeing to provide 1,000 MW.

With Prime Minister Manmohan Singh making no commitment during a meeting in New Delhi with Telanga-na Rashtra Samithi (TRS) chief K. Chandrasekhara Rao and other lead-ers Monday night, no end to the strike appears visible. In fact, the indications are that the stir will intensify.

KCR, as the TRS leader is popularly known, declared after meeting the prime minister that the strike would be intensified. He rejected the prime minister's appeal to call off the strike.

Stop operation, we will hold arms for a month: Maoists

Kolkata, Oct 4 (IANS) The Maoists Tuesday announced they were pre-pared to hold arms for a month if the West Bengal government halted the joint security forces' operation to build a congenial atmosphere for dialogue.

"We are prepared to restrain arms for a month if there is no joint security forces' operation in Jungle-mahal (Maoist-hit forested stretch-es of West Midnapore, Purulia and Bankura districts)," said a joint statement signed by Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) state committee spokesman Akash and two government-appointed in-terlocutors Sujato Bhadra and Cho-ton Das.

The statement was given Friday after lengthy talks between CPI-Maoist leaders and the interlocu-tors.

"We are in favour of peace. If the state government promises to stop the joint operation for a month and implements it in letter and spirit, we

will also announce the month-long ceasefire and carry it out in letter and spirit," it said.

Das told IANS that the missive also called for disarming the anti-Maoist armed groups and asked the government to take the responsibil-ity.

Das said though the left-wing extremists have given the proposal unilaterally, the government needs to do its bit by stopping the joint forces operation for the proposal to take effect. "The ball is now in the government's court," Das said.

The letter signed Sep 30 was embargoed till Oct 3. "We have re-leased it to the media today (Tues-day) after the embargo got over," he added.

The joint statement comes days after West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee issued a stern warning saying the guerrillas would have to decide whether they wanted talks or would continue their poli-tics of killing.

Delhi New Delhi, Oct 4 (IANS) A suspect-ed Maoist conduit, accused of receiv-ing "protection money" from the Es-sar group on behalf of the rebels, was Tuesday arrested in south Delhi by Chhattisgarh Police, police said. The woman's arrest triggered condemna-tion from activists who termed it "il-legal".

Soni Sori, a tribal teacher from Dantewada district in Chhattisgarh, was arrested from Katwaria Sarai area.

Soni, who is in her 30s, was later brought before a court which sent her to judicial custody for a day.

Chidambaram is guilty in 2G scam, says Subramanian Swamy

Chennai, Oct 4 (IANS) Keeping up his attack on Home Minister P.Chidambaram, Janata Party presi-dent Subramanian Swamy Tuesday said he was as guilty as the jailed former communications minister A. Raja in the 2G spectrum allotment scam.

Speaking to reporters on the mar-gins of an event here, Swamy said: "Chidambaram is guilty of criminal misconduct under the Prevention of

Corruption Act. It is enough if you enable another person to enrich him-self at the cost of the public."

He asserted that one need not re-ceive money to be charged under the Prevention of Corruption Act and the documents in his possession against Chidambaram have strong evidence.

He alleged that Chidambaram and Raja decided the spectrum alloca-tion together and hence the former is equally culpable.

Gravitational waves emanate as ‘sounds of universe’Washington, Oct 4 (IANS) Scien-tists are still looking for gravita-tional waves -- small ripples in the fabric of space-time which are considered to be the sounds of the universe. Just as sound complements vision in our daily life, gravitational waves will com-plement our view of the universe taken by standard telescopes. Albert Einstein predicted gravi-tational waves in 1918. Today, almost 100 years later, advanced gravitational wave detectors are being constructed in the US, Europe, Japan and Australia to search for them.

South Africa slammed for denying visa to Dalai Lama

Dharamsala, Oct 4 (IANS) The of-fice of the Tibetan spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, who has called off his South Africa visit after being denied a visa, said Tuesday South Africa has succumbed to Chinese pressure. Fel-low Nobel laureate and former South African leader F.W. De Klerk also con-demned the visa denial and said it did not befit an open society.

“It’s unfortunate that His Holiness Dalai Lama, who was visiting on the personal invitation of fellow Nobel laureate Desmond Tutu and long-time friend, was not granted a visa,” said Thubten Samphel, a spokesman for the Tibetan government-in-exile. “It’s very clear that South Africa, known as a sovereign nation, has succumbed to Chinese pressure,” he added.

Two years back, too, the elderly monk was denied a visa by the South Africa government as it had close ties with China. He was to attend a peace conference there. The Dalai Lama was to depart for South Africa Oct 6. The Dalai Lama’s office said he was invited to South Africa by a number of uni-versities and organizations, including Stellenbosch University, the Tutu Cen-

tre and the Mahatma Gandhi Trust, to give public talks. He was also to de-liver Bishop Tutu’s 80th birth anniver-sary inaugural lecture and to receive the Mahatma Gandhi International Award for Peace and Reconciliation.

Even Tutu has warned that the government would “shoot itself in the foot” by again refusing his fellow

Nobel Peace laureate entry into South Africa. The Dalai Lama has lived in exile in India since he fled Tibet dur-ing a failed uprising in 1959. He fa-vors “greater autonomy” for Tibetans rather than complete independence. Chinese leaders have, however, called him a separatist who wants Tibet to secede from China.

Russia, China veto UN resolution on Syria

Yemeni air force attack Al-Qaeda strongholds, 12

killed

United Nations, Oct 5 (IANS/RIA Novosti): Russia and China have used their veto right and blocked a draft UN resolution that threatened sanctions against Syria if President Bashar Assad’s government continued violence against the opposition in the country.

Prepared by the European mem-bers of the UN Security Council and

supported by the US, the draft resolu-tion stipulated that the Assad’s regime should face the possibility of tough sanctions if it fails to stop its crack-down on opposi-tion within 30 days since the adoption of the resolution.

The resolution was rejected late Tuesday by a vote

of 9-2 with four abstentions. Russia, which stands firmly against any men-tion of sanctions citing the example of Libya where the NATO countries largely overstepped the UN mandate in a military operation

against Muammar Gaddafi’s re-gime, said the text of the document was “unacceptable” despite several changes to the draft.

Brussels, Oct 4 (IANS): Front organizations of the vanquished Liberation Tigers of Tamil Ee-lam (LTTE) run some 20 schools on Saturdays in the Netherlands, Dutch media reported on Tues-day. The revelations were made in a police report that has just been made public.

The report was given to the authorities earlier this year. The schools in several Dutch cities like Amsterdam, Rotterdam and The Hague which teach children of Tamil origin language, dance and theatre, also use teaching materi-als praising the Tamil race, writ-ing about the armed struggle and explaining how humane the Tam-

ils are on the battlefield, the web-site said quoting the Dutch news agency ANP.

A court in The Hague is cur-rently hearing a case against five men accused of allegedly collect-ing money for Sri Lankan Tamil Tigers. They are facing up to 16 years in jail for helping run a ter-rorist organization, it said. The EU put the Tamil Tigers on its list of terrorist organizations in 2006.

The LTTE was defeated by the Sri Lankan military in May 2009 ending their nearly three-decade-long armed struggle for an inde-pendent homeland in the north and east of the island nation for Tamils.

officially claimed responsibility for the deadly attack.

Aden, Oct 5 (IANS): Warplanes of the Yemeni air force launched several air strikes Tuesday on a number of Al- Qaeda strong holds, killing at least 12 terror-ists and injuring dozens of others in the southern Abyan province, a military official said. Accord-ing to the military official, who requested anonymity, two suc-cessful air strikes bombed an Al-Qaeda stronghold in the Jaar city, Abyan's second largest city, which remains held by the terror-ist group since late May. Mean-while, another military source said fierce battles were going on between Al-Qaiea militants and army units in the eastern areas of Zinjibar city, the provincial capi-tal of Abyan till last reported.

Russia to lease n-submarineto India in November

Moscow, Oct 4 (IANS/RIA Novo-sti): A Russian nuclear submarine, in which 20 people were accidentally killed during a sea trial in 2008, will be leased to India in November, a Russian defense industry source said on Tuesday. The delivery will make India only the sixth to operate nucle-ar-powered submarines after France, China, Russia, Britain and the US.

The Nerpa was to have been leased in 2008 but the transfer was put on hold after a fatal mishap three years

ago, when a freon gas fire suppres-sant system was accidentally set off. The $650 million lease contract was signed in 2004.

The source said all the defects "will have been eliminated before November, after which the Nerpa will be transferred to Delhi". In late September, a jury dropped negligence charges against the Nerpa's captain Dmitry Lavrentyev and engineer Dmitry Grobov. They were charged with professional negligence result-

ing in death or injury for allegedly setting off the sub's fire safety system "without authorization and for no reason". The Nerpa had 208 people aboard. Seventeen of the dead were civilians, killed when fire-suppres-sant freon gas was released during sea trials in the Sea of Japan in November 2008. Another 21 people were in-jured, in Russia's worst naval accident since the sinking of the Kursk nuclear submarine in 2000.

India , Asian economies will drive global growth: Ministers

New Delhi, Oct 4 (IANS): Asia, and par-

ticularly India, will be the major driver of global economic growth for the better part of the next cen-tury, senior union ministers said at a high-profile awards gala held here. "There has been a dramatic change in the world economy. Today everyone is talking about Asia, Asian business and Asian business leaders," said Ka-mal Nath, minister of urban develop-ment, addressing the Asian Business Leadership Forum (ABLF) awards Monday night. According to Nath, even in adverse economic conditions, Asian businesses have shown resil-ience, helped by the strong financial systems in the continent.

"We have very different financial systems than that of Europe or North America. Over here, the banks are paying the government, lending to business. Over there the govern-ments are paying to banks to keep them alive," Nath said. The minis-ter said that the future challenge for Asian economies would be to sustain the high growth rates, while that for the European economies would be to manage the growth rates. "Our chal-lenge would be to sustain the growth rate, while their challenge would be to manage the growth rate so that it does not go into negative rate."

disease in the country. India on the other hand has maintained that it exports buffalo meat from regions which are free of the disease. Indone-sia has also been placing restrictons on Indian pharmaceutical compa-

nies, placing conditions such as requiring them to set up a production facility in the country within two years of get-

ting registered. "Our senior officials have dis-cussed issues on both sides related to non-tariff barriers. India

is particularly keen on bovine meat exports to Indonesia and higher par-ticipation in the pharmaceutical sec-tor of Indonesia," said Sharma. There is also a foreign direct investment cap of 70 percent which inhibits Indian exports of drugs. Both countries have set a target of achieving trade volume of $25 billion by 2015.

Environment Minister Jayanthi Natrajan. EU's proposal to cap planet-warming gases under its emission trading system makes it mandatory for airlines flying into its airspace to buy carbon credits equivalent to the carbon dioxide emitted by their aircraft. The EU has reiterated that it will not back away from its decision but is ready to talk to other countries.

for greater economic integration in the Asian region and said: "The next decade will see much more re-gional economic integration as it is required. The integration would be similar to the one India has with the GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council) countries." Communications and In-formation Technology Minister Ka-pil Sibal lauded the role of women in leading the growth of Asian business. Sibal received a loud applause when he shared his observation that: "Men of this world are good leaders, but

females of this world are great lead-ers. The women leaders of this world know how to take care of the family, how to invest money, how to distrib-ute wealth and how to sustain a fam-ily and take it forward."

Pursuit of Happiness

Most people are about as happy as they make up their minds to be’ – Abraham Lincoln

At some point in our lives, each and every one of us must have desperately

chased happiness in one form or the other – and I am no exception to it. What is the defini-tion of true happiness? Is it found in this mate-rialistic world or within the comfortable walls of our homes? When was the last time we were truly happy? True, not all of us may have the same answers for these questions, and while the sources of happiness cannot be generalized, the ambitious generation of today tends to measure happiness only in terms of material gains. Man has reached impassable heights, unimaginable to people living even a few decades back, from technological advancements to beautiful and spellbound works of art and literature. But still, no mere achievements can satisfy the frantic search for happiness that we face day in and day out. Writers have leaped to the task of exploiting this huge market of misguided youth and have capitalized by making money from the desperate

in the bookstores searching for all kinds of

self help books .Suddenly, we find ourselves wander-

ing in an unending maze of shelves filled with books ranging from ‘a quick guide to happiness’ to ’10 habits for joyful living’. What people need to realise is that there is no shortcut to happi-ness and even if they follow the ’100 easy steps to happiness’, all they will find is a temporary state of happiness disappearing along with the last page and as soon as they are done reading it, it is placed on the shelf never to be opened again. We need to understand that happiness is not something to be searched for externally but it is the inner contentment, an attitude that is shaped by us.

From my experience, I can say, that owning an expensive watch or a new pair of jeans can only give you a fleeting joy until you begin crav-ing for the next cool thing. Now, like all the

The issue is that this road is always jam packed due to all the vehicles that are parked on the side. The problem is that these vehicles, most of them being Gramin Seva autos take up nearly half the road leaving very little space for the moving traffic. I believe the only solution is to ensure that the traffic police pay more attention to ensuring that the rules and regulations are enforced and that these errant drivers are brought to book. beautiful feelings in life, true happi-ness is untouched and, if it may bring any

consolation to many in this time of economic slowdown, it doesn’t come with a price tag! So break away from the hectic, monotonous rou-tines and enjoy the wonderful things which you have been missing all along. For me, it’s a chilled glass of water on returning home tired after a long, scorching summer day, or the peaceful aura of seashore away from the complexities of the world , it is in the eyes of

my parents filled with pride on my achieve-ment, or a sincere word of praise from my most admired teacher, it is the breeze of inno-cence in the eyes of a small child smiling and laughing for no reason, or the first bite of my mom’s dish after staying away from home for an unbearably long time. These are very few of the many occasions which give me utmost pleasure and make our lives easier and worth living.

This is an ancient technique of painting named after the city of Tanjore (Thanjavur in Tamil)

These paintings are made using a technique where gold colored leaves and sparkling gem stones are used to highlight certain aspects of the paintings like ornaments, dresses and other attire. Tanjore Paintings are known for their art affluence and vibrant colors. They are essentially devotional symbols, where the subject matter of most of the paintings includes Hindu Gods & Goddesses and Kings.

They usually draw inspiration from Hindu mythology and are rich in the harmonization of colours and techniques, and are designed with a traditional look. Tanjore paintings tend to focus on one figure which remains the centre of attention, even if it is surrounded by other elements. Most of these paintings are very ceremonial, hence will always have a background relevant to the depiction of that particular central figure. The deities drawn are always pleasant to the eye with soft expressions as the use of too much gold can sometimes get jarring.

Gold leaf foils of very high quality are usually used for Tanjore paintings. You will know if the work is of good quality if the painting is old and the gold still doesn’t look faded. The paintings come in different styles including:

The Classic style which has very strong use of colors and coordinated with backgrounds which are with the intricate gold foil work The Embossed style is similar to the clas-sic style, the only difference being a greater use of gold foil which gives it a three dimensional result. The Antique style is with soft colors and more detailed gold work for the backgrounds which remain mostly simple.

No two Tanjore paintings are the same. If you’re looking for exclusivity, then this is the art for you. They might be easily available but due to the fact that every artist has his or her own interpretation of each storyline you can be rest assured that no one else will

have the same one as you.

Art prices have hit the roof, but Tanjore paintings are still not that expensive. Depending on the size and the style, they range upwards from Rs.3000/- .The heavy frames used in these paintings might mean

an additional cost. Tanjore paintings have become a

souvenir for festive occasions in South India, as decoration pieces in houses as well as a collector’s item for art lovers

1, 2…3! Its over! Embrace happiness, you deserve it!

Laugh and the world laughs with you; weep and you weep alone!

Remember, Criticism is an indirect form of self-boasting!

Only those who ask for more can get more and only those who know there is more, ask.

Referees take great care when attempting to separate a fight. There are limits to what they can achieve in terms of physically separating two people baying for each oth-ers’ blood and tend to rely upon both parties being aware of ‘rules of the game’ to cease their spat. The argument or debate you could be caught in the middle of will be short-lived and you needn’t worry about having to remind both parties of what is or isn’t acceptable.

March 21 - April 19Aries

Advice is what we ask for when we already know the answer but wish we didn’t!

If you’re feeling criticized or condemned by certain people now, you can relax in the knowledge that you have little to justify to others. Your approach to something has confused a few people but you needn’t be concerned about having to change a plan or strategy in order to please others. Your approach is something you feel comfortable with so stick with it. Soon, others will find someone or something else to criticize or condemn.

May 21 - June 20Gemini

Some people ask twenty people for the advice. They receive advice and discover that twenty people have said more or less the same thing. The advice seeker then goes off and merrily does the complete opposite to what they were advised! We all know people who do this. You, however, don’t need to seek advice on levels you believe. Your instincts about something are correct. You really can trust these now.

Sept. 23 - Oct. 22Libra

Here’s a thought: have you considered laughing in the face of adversity? I promise I am not being flippant or patronizing. Your current situation requires you to summon courage and imagination if a satisfying solu-tion is to be reached within a sensitive ar-rangement. I can tell you the sky gives clear indication of progress being made if you can see humor in what’s happening. That sounds absolutely crazy I know but if you try it, you could be amazed at what transpires!

Oct. 23 - Nov. 21Scorpio

Sometimes, when people are asked if they want something, they reply saying they don’t because they don’t want to draw attention to themselves or cause someone to make effort on their behalf. This scenario can be made more complex when the person asking if the other would like something secretly hopes they won’t! There appears to be unneces-sary politeness happening in your world. If you want something, then don’t be shy or ashamed to ask for and accept it!

Nov. 22 - Dec. 21Sagittarius

Looking down the road at what would make you happy is fine but shouldn’t you be considering what it is you need here and now to feel happier and more fulfilled? It appears you’ve accepted a situation that is far from ideal and are focusing on the future in the hope that whatever undesirable scenario you find yourself in now will be a thing of the past then. Don’t overlook happiness available to you in the present.

Time to test your detective skills Sherlock!

It’s time for you to put your foot down!

Have faith in yourself as well as others!

Salespeople are trained to deal with objec-tions. This involves being aware of every single protestation a potential buyer can give and having a response ready. An important discussion you’re involved with seems to have its list of one-sided objections. Someone is either being uncooperative, unreceptive or unhelpful to make a point. In sales, this is known as a ‘smokescreen’. Believe there is an underlying reason for this and you will get to the bottom of it.

June 21 - July 22Cancer

Is an excuse you’re being given masking honesty on someone’s part? Someone’s trying to convince you of a half-truth and as uncomfortable as a discussion could be, it’s important they need to be fully aware of what you’re no longer prepared to tolerate. Something has to change within an arrangement and because this change is something you both want, it can happen but will rely on someone being more forthright with you.

July 23 - Aug. 22Leo

Most people want uncomplicated lives. Few people wake each morning excited about potential change and obstacles the coming day will bring. We are aware of what respon-sibilities we have to ourselves and others and our waking hours are spent fulfilling these, one at a time. It’s time for you to assess one particular obligation you’ve undertaken for some time. Examine your reasons for con-tinuing to do this. Are you benefiting from it or is someone else benefiting more?

Aug. 23 - Sept. 22Virgo

Must everything in life be explain-able? The world is full of Doubting Thomas’s who only believe in whatever can be explained and reinforced with indisputable fact. I’m not suggesting you abandon beliefs or opinions about that which cannot be explained but I am suggesting you treat one particular issue with a very open mind. Something magical wants to reveal itself. Through being dismissive, you could miss it.

Jan. 20 - Feb. 18Aquarius

Do you subscribe to the ‘if a job’s worth do-ing, then it’s worth doing yourself ’ theory? Sometimes, it’s not just a theory. Sometimes, if we want reassurance that something will be done to a particular standard, then we either deliberately or inadvertently take the reins and make sure it happens. You can afford to release control of something now, though even slightly. Trust that someone else shares your objective and will not let you down.

Feb. 19 - March 20Pisces

Why stand when you can sit down? Why walk when transportation is available? An opportunity to make your life easier and more comfortable is available now but, because you’ve probably grown accustomed to certain scenarios working in certain ways, you’re inclined to ignore it. You needn’t think that what’s being offered is a ‘short cut’ that could compromise your efforts in some way. The sky’s trying to help ways it thinks you could use help now.

color wheel is a chart which gives the rela-

company tends to have different names for

the colors they use. The color wheel will also

help you make the best possible combina-

For instance lavender and lime green can be

used together on alternate walls, or if you

chose to use dark colors like purple and red

then they should be put only on one wall,

otherwise the room will look too dingy.

Green Tea Benefits Weight Loss

Eat something and then burn calories because you consumed it. Sounds perfect or what?

Green tea probably comes pretty close.

Green tea is packed with antioxidants. All the wear and tear of our body along with our meat

consumption releases free radicals in the body. Many of these free radicals serve useful physiological functions, but they can be toxic when generated in excess by causing damage to DNA, tissues, etc; possibly creating cancerous cells. Anti-oxidants react with these free radicals and mitigate their effects on our body.

Green tea contains EGCG that is known to stimulate brown fat and is even extracted and used as a weight loss supplement.

www.fitho.in

Studies have shown that green tea is also effective in lowering LDL cholesterol levels and reducing the abnormal formation of clots.

There is more good news- a study at the University of Geneva found that men who were given a combination of caffeine and green tea extract burned more calories than those only on caffeine. Green tea also has anti bacterial properties, so its helps prevent tooth decay also.

So, drinking green tea helps to live longer (reduces your cancerous cells), live healthier (reduces your bad cholesterol), be fitter (helps you burn more calories) and prevent bad breath (tooth decay). And you’re still wondering whether you should start drinking green tea?

To prepare green tea, boil a cup of hot water. Pour the hot water into tea cup. Dip a green tea bag in a cup of hot water, for 30-60 seconds. If you need, add sugar or honey. Do not add milk to green tea.

This the easiest way to prepare this wonder weight loss drink!

Warner century puts Blues in semis

Chennai, Oct 4 (IANS): Little open-er David Warner's 69-ball 136 not out floored defending champions Chennai Super Kings while pow-ering the New South Wales into the semi-finals of the Champions League T20 tournament on Tues-day.

Warner's amazing innings that contained eight sixes and 11 bound-aries, helped the 2009 champions Blues to 201 for two.

The Super Kings made a spirited bid, but the pressure of having to win by a big margin told on the side that eventually capitulated to 155 all out with left-arm spinner Stephen

O'Keefe taking three for 28.The Blues thus topped Group

A with six points and along with Mumbai Indians (5) qualified for the semi-finals leaving the Trinidad and Tobago, who earlier beat Nash-ua Cape Cobras by two wickets, heart-broken and on four points.

The South Africans finished with three points and the Super Kings ended at the bottom with two.

It was undoubtedly a Warner show on Tuesday night on a pitch on which batting was a task until the "pocket dynamo" capitalized on a life when on 40 and launched into a save attack that spared no bowler.

Clearly, Warner was in the zone as he played shots at will, notably the switch hits.

The Super Kings response was as fiery with openers Michael Hussey and Murali Vijay indulging in hec-tic hitting, but then, the pressure was constant, and it eventually told on the batsmen.

Skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni followed his mates into the dug-out in the 11th over and it was all over bar the shouting as the Super Kings fell to 88 for four. Thereafter, it was a regular procession and the Super Kings innings came apart in sharp contrast to the Blues innings

Adaptation was the key: Katich

Chennai, Oct 5 (IANS): The ability to adapt to conditions and improve-ment as the Champions League T20 tournament progressed were the key to success for the New South Wales Blues and the 46-run win against the Chennai Super Kings on Tuesday, ac-cording to skipper Simon Katich.

It showcased the team's abilities, he added.

The 2009 champions Blues made 201 for two in 20 overs on the back of opener David Warner's unbeaten 135 off 69 balls and then dismissed the Super Kings for 155 en route to the semi-finals.

Katich downplayed the expecta-tions of Blues reaching their second final in the competition and said that the total of 200-plus was not pre-planned or even aimed for.

"As the tournament progressed we did adapt to the conditions quite well. We had no preconceived notions of a target. We didn't know what exactly a safe score on the wicket was.

On his part, Warner disclosed that having studied the Super Kings wick-et-takers, they targeted off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin who, accord-ing to the opener, would have domi-nated had he been allowed to.

Sodhi wins gold in World Cup shooting final

New Delhi, Oct 4 (IANS): Defending champion Ronjan So-dhi won gold in double trap shooting at the World Cup final de-

feating China's Hu Binyuan in a nail-biting tiebreaker finish at Al Ain in the UAE on Tuesday.

Sodhi along with Hu shot a total

of 187/200 in the finals before finally clinching gold in the tie-shoot. He is the first Indian to defend a World Cup final title in shooting.

"To win back-to-back titles is an amazing feeling. The competition was tough. I hope to continue with this performance and hopefully will do better with time," said Sodhi, who is ranked eighth in the world.

Maharashtra gives sportspersons 5 percent quota in jobs

Mumbai, Oct 4 (IANS): Barely a fort-night after the sorry economic plight of ace hockey player Yuvraj Walmiki came to light, the Maharashtra gov-ernment on Tuesday decided on a special five percent quota in govern-ment jobs for sportspersons who bring glory to the state, an official said.

"They would be entitled to all gov-ernment benefits, promotions, etc. It is part of the policy to encourage sports by the state government," said the official.

Sportspersons who bring glory to the state by their achievements or honors in Olympics, Asian Games and Commonwealth Games shall be

India likely to take part in Asian kabaddi in IslamabadKarachi, Oct 4 (IANS): The Asian Kabaddi Championship, which was postponed last September-October at India's request as it was clashing with the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi, will now be held in Islamabad in the last week of De-cember.

Announcing this on Tuesday, the Asian Kabaddi Federation (AKF) secretary Mohammad Sarwar said after months of uncertainty over security fears, the federation at its meeting in Kuala Lumpur Friday

finalized the venue and dates. There were fears that the fragile

security environment could force the event to be shifted out, but the members were eventually con-vinced that the law and order situ-ation has improved considerably for the championship to be held in Pakistan. In recent years Pakistan missed a number of international sports events over security fears.

India, Korea, Iran, Malaysia, Thailand, Chinese Taipei, Bangla-desh and Sri Lanka, besides hosts

Pakistan are expected to take part in the championship, which Paki-stan is to host for the first time. All the countries are expected to con-firm their participation soon.

Pakistan has already hosted World Kabaddi Championship in 1997 in Islamabad, and many other invitational international tourna-ments.

Sarwar said Pakistan will take part in the circle style World Cup in India in November. India are the defending champions.

Tiger Woods on comeback trail after dropping out of top 50

Sydney, Oct 4 (IANS): Tiger Woods, who has not won a tournament since the 2009 Australian Masters and now dropped out of the world top 50 for

the first time in 15 years, will play invi-tational events in Perth and Melbourne in November in the run up to the Presidents Cup at Royal Melbourne.

Woods, who spent much of the year tend-ing to his knee and achilles

heel and has not played a tournament since missing the U.S. PGA Champi-onship in August, will play at Perth's Burswood Park Golf Club Nov 5 and

Melbourne's Capital Golf Club Nov 7 before going to Sydney for the Nov 10-13 Australian Open.

For the 14-time major winner, it means he is not a sure selection for the Presidents Cup and was only Fred Couples' two captain's picks.

Woods will return to the US PGA Tour at this week's Frys.com Open at CordeValle Golf Club in San Martin, California.

Woods dropped out of the top 50 when Louis Oosthuizen finished in a three-way tie for fifth in the Dunhill Links Championship at St Andrews, Scotland.

This marked an end to Woods' streak of 778 consecutive weeks in the top 50, which he gained jumping from No.61 on Oct 13, 1996.

Sushila Devi wins gold in Asian junior judo

New Delhi, Oct 4 (IANS): Deven-dro Singh (49kg) and Manoj Kumar (64kg) qualified for the 2012 Lon-don Olympics by advancing to the quarter-finals of the World Boxing Championships in Baku, Azerbaijan on Tuesday.

While Manoj edged past China's Qing Hu 17:15 with a well calculated approach, Devendro continued to tame the higher-ranked opponents, this time triumphing over seventh

seed Carlos Quipo of Ecuador.Dinesh Kumar (81kg), however,

missed his chance to qualify for the Olympics after losing 7:16 to Damien Hooper of Australia.

Manoj, playing in the light wel-ter weight division, was up against a much taller Qing. But the Indian box-er's strategy of blocking and attacking allowed him to get inside Qing's long reaching arms and score a few crucial points. Qing, who seemed to be losing energy quickly, resorted to continu-ously holding his opponent, for which he was given two warning. The cau-tions helped the Indian's cause of lev-eling the scores and taking the lead.

Both the boxers came hard at each other in the final round but the nippy Manipuri, with swift combi-nations, man-aged to gain crucial points once again. In the end, he clinched a 18:12 victory along with an Olympic berth.

Rest in unbeatable position against Rajasthan

Jaipur, Oct 4 (IANS) Rest of India (ROI) were in an unbeatable posi-tion in the Irani Cup, setting an improbable 618-run target for Ra-jasthan on Day Four on Tuesday.

The ROI took a massive 263-run first-innings lead after bowling Ra-jasthan out for 400 and chose to bat instead of enforcing the follow-on.

ROI openers Shikhar Dhawan (155) and Abhinav Mukund (154)

scored at brisk pace to raise centu-ries and collected 354/2 in 54 overs before ROI announced a late dec-laration.

Rajasthan's Aakash Chopra was batting at 19 and Vineet Saxena 3 when the stumps were drawn.

Resuming at 307/6, Ranji Tro-phy champions Rajasthan needed 157 runs to avoid the follow-on but they folded up after adding only 93.

I will instill self-belief in Pakistan team: Coach Mohsin

Karachi, Oct 4 (IANS): The Pakistani cricket team's interim coach, Mohsin Khan, is confident that he will help instill self-belief in the home series against Sri Lanka, starting in the United Arab Emirates from Oct 18.

Admitting that Pakistan's batting has not been up to the mark on recent

tours, Mohsin said he was confident of bringing the best out of his batters.

"Our batting side has some able players and I hope to bring the best out of them."

PCB chairman Ijaz Butt clarified that Mohsin would only act as head coach, not as chief selector during the

Sri Lanka series, and will form the tour selection committee along with manager and the captain.

Butt said he hoped a foreign coach would assume charge by the time the Sri Lanka series was over as the PCB was negotiating with well-qualified candidates.

EU court's ruling can impact film, games telecasts London, Oct 4 (IANS): Euro-

pean Union's highest court on Tuesday ruled that it cannot stop individuals from buying cheaper set-top box decoder cards from foreign broadcasters, and that could hurt the rights holders in Britain grievously.

The European Court of Justice (ECJ) said the Premier League could not claim copyright over its matches as they could not be

considered to be an author's own intellectual creation and, there-fore, to be works for the purpos-es of the EU copyright law.

The legal case was filed by Eng-lish pub landlady Karen Murphy who was fined for screening live English Premier League matches via a Greek pay-TV decoder.

The ECJ findings will now go to the high court in London for a final ruling.

London, Oct 5 (IANS): Actress Olivia Wilde's di-vorce from husband Tao Ruspoli has been finalized after eight months of their split. Wilde split from her husband Tao Ruspoli in February after eight years of marriage and the break-up has now been made of-ficial. "The trauma of the divorce has been humbling. And for the first time, I'm a little wobbly. I'm a case of arrested development, in a way - from spend-ing your 20s with someone who really loves to take care of you, as my husband did. "But I think it's very healthy to spend time alone. You need to know how to be alone and not be defined by another person," contactmusic.com quoted the 27-year-old as saying.

Although the film hasn't got great reviews, she is not upset. "People have unanimously loved me in the film. I have not actually encountered too much criticism with it. So I don't know how I will deal with it but hopefully I will deal with it gracefully," she added. Lately, a lot of main-stream actresses are doing item numbers - whether it's Deepika Padukone, Katrina Kaif or Kareena Kapoor. And Sonam hopes to join the league soon.

It's a very interesting film and I am looking forward to it," said Rani.
