communities in towns, cities and regions across

the country behind their local startups. to

help more people to start, scale and succeed

from ireland the startup Gathering focuses in

one week (october 5th-10th) over 350 events

nationally. these events, programmes and

initiatives help create opportunities for startups

to collaborate and develop new relationships

with the key partners they need to accelerate

their growth in ireland. these partners include

enterprise agencies, investors, large corporates,

the banking sector, service providers, research

centres and many others.

the startup Gathering is an initiative of the not-

for-profit startup ireland Partnership and is a

key action in the Government’s action Plan for

incubation spaces, new tax measures and a new competition

to find ireland’s Best young entrepreneur.

the startup Gathering is a major part of this plan, and the

response to the initiative to date is more evidence of the

huge potential that exists. i would encourage anyone with

an interest in starting a business to get involved, and i look

forward to meeting hundreds of our existing and future

entrepreneurs at events across the country.

During the Startup Gathering 2015 we will be telling the students around Dublin what the Startup Gathering is all about. Volunteers will be working with students in one of the 16 programmes available across primary and secondary levels. All JAI programmes bring business and enterprise skills into the classroom through modules on STEM, Financial literacy, entrepreneurship and life skills. Each volunteer works with the students for an hour over 5/6 weeks facilitating interactive learning to achieve structured learning goals throughout the programme. Greater collaboration leveraging open source development best practices and standardized protocols, such as MAVLink, will significantly accelerate real, deployable solutions for the UAV industry at large. Next generation drone applications need to be agile, reliable and offer flexibility to adapt to ever evolving requirements in the industry. Driven by a need to address challenges faced by the UAV community, Dronecode has established itself as one of the most advanced flight control platforms available today. This half-day Dronecode workshop will allow participants to get their hands dirty on the Dronecode technology stack. The workshop will cover tool chain setup (a VM / docker image will be provided), running simulated flights all the way to moving an electric servo motor on real hardware. It will also show how to develop code on Linux which sends commands to the autopilot and will provide a glimpse into how all-in-one Linux board solutions will look like. Participants only need basic C or Python knowledge and a laptop running a POSIX system with two USB ports. Owners of a gamepad will want to bring it along for some flight simulation fun, but it is not required.

Volunteers will be working with students in one of the 16 programmes available across primary and secondary levels. The digitalisa-tion of the European marketplace will affect businesses of all sizes and sectors. Getting more businesses online, and increasing the numbers of innovative ICT and tech entrepreneurs is a key part of the European and national strategy, but a number of barriers to ecommerce and digital interactions are hinder-ing online trade, including issues around the standardisation of legislation, data protection, copyrights, privacy and VAT rules. Lack of digital skills among all sectors of society and the need to bring more public services online, as well as the necessity to upgrade and improve digital infrastructure are also key issues in the debate on Europe and Ireland’s digital future. Creating a connected digital single market is one of the European Commission top ten priori-ties. Only 1.7% of EU enterprises make full use of advanced digital technologies (including mobile internet, cloud computing, social networks or big data), while 41% do not use them at all. Within less than a decade, most economic activity will depend on digital ecosystems, integrating digital infrastructure, hardware and software, applications and data. Digitisation of all sectors will be needed if the EU is to maintain its competitiveness, keep a strong industrial base and manage the transition to a smart industrial and services economy. This seminar will feature expert speakers and innovative local businesses, who will lay out some of the proposed changes to EU legislation, generate discussion on what this all means for business as well as highlight examples of best practice which illustrate how we are moving rapidly towards the new digital reality. During the Startup Gathering 2015 we will be telling the students around Galway what the Startup Gathering is all about. Volunteers will be working with students in one of the 16 programmes available across primary and secondary levels. Each year over 16,000 students all over Ireland get to find out what it really like to be their own boss and run their own business by taking part in the Student Enterprise Awards Programme. The Student Enterprise Awards is the biggest enterprise competition for students in Ireland.
