December 2018 www.manateepatchworkers.org
December 3 We will have our Holiday gathering at
the Salvation Army at 7:00 p.m. Come help to celebrate the season!
The guild will provide snacks. Bring a quilt-shop-quality fat quarter and your show and tell; if you wish to
participate in a fun exchange, bring a wrapped ornament costing less than $10. A donation of nonperishable
food for the Salvation Army would be appreciated. You can sign up for the hand appliqué workshop on January
12 with Brenda Grampsas, AQS certified appraiser, historian, and instructor. And it’s time to renew your membership! The membership form is in this newsletter—you can
bring it with your check to our party.
Board Meetings
Board meetings currently are held at 5:15 before monthly guild meetings—members are always
welcome to attend.
Can you believe the holidays are upon us? I can’t. It seems like each year goes by faster and faster. Anyway, it is time to cele-brate and be with family and friends. And, if you are brave enough, to get out and shop for those special loved ones. One of my goals over the next month is to sew some holiday presents. I plan on making an apron for my cousin and some pillow cases for my daughter-in-law. And, of course, I have multiple other projects I am working on as well. On a different subject...For us quilters, we generally have more than one sewing machine. And, what I am learning as I con-tinue my quilting journey, is that I like to use different machines for different tasks. I have a heavy-duty machine which is great for quilting and binding, but when it comes to piecing, I like to use my smaller machine. And, of course, I have multiple rulers that I like to use for different cutting as well. I love my 3” by 12” Quilter’s Select ruler for trimming. And my Stripology Ruler is great for sub-cutting jelly roll strips. Of course, it never seems that I have enough rulers. Hope to see all of you at our Holiday Party on Monday, December 3rd.

We need a cottage-group coordinator! Contact any board member for information or to volunteer!
Cottage groups mean fellowship, friendship, and accomplishment! We would like to encourage our snowbird members to form a cottage group which
will meet during the fall and winter months, so con-tact Alison Parks if you’d like to be a part of that
group! Your cottage group should be mostly members but can
include others—think of it as a recruiting tool!

Community Service
As advised in the special message sent to you
in November, again this month there is no scheduled
community service. We will resume these activities
in January.
We meet to make dog beds and cat mats on
the Tuesday after guild meetings at the Humane
Society on 14th Street W. at 10:00 a.m. We meet to
work on quilts on the third Friday of the month at the
Salvation Army at 10:00 a.m. We donate dog beds
and cat mats every month, and we really need your
participation! Even one hour will help greatly. Our
donations go home with adopted animals, so we
always need more! The Humane Society is generous
to our guild in allowing us to use their conference
room for our classes. Our quilts go to organizations
like Guardians ad litem, Hope Family Services, the
Salvation Army, Selah Freedom, and others. Join us
for quilting and fun while making a difference in our
community.
Our January dates are Tuesday the 8th for pet
beds at the Humane Society clinic and Friday the
18th at the Salvation Army for quilting.
If you have any questions, contact Janice
Dentler at [email protected].
