Dear Parents & School Community
Community Surveys
We will be sending out surveys across the School Community – to parents, students (Year
4/KSSR3 – Sixth Form/KBSM5) and staff. Feedback is vital to aid School improvement, we
would appreciate you taking the time to fill them in. The surveys will be sent out to you in
November.
Open Day
TEYCI had their Open Day last Saturday, the response was very good and nearly all who came
brought along their children to have a look at the Centre and participate in its activities. There was
a very positive atmosphere and our thanks go to the parents and staff who supported this.
Tomorrow will be Meru Campus’ turn to have its Open Day. We thank parents for allowing their
children to come back to school to participate in the activities on the day.
Replacement CCAs
As the weather has turned better and blue skies have appeared, some outdoor CCAs will be
replaced this Saturday. They are Primary and Secondary Water Polo and Primary and Secondary
Taekwando. Meanwhile, the usual outdoor Saturday CCAs (Primary and Secondary Tennis,
Primary and Secondary Football and Secondary Badminton) will go ahead as normal.
Parents Forum
We have now completed the second week of Parents’ Forums. We would like to see more
participation from parents of Sekolah Tenby in these forums as it is always beneficial for the school
to get feedback from parents and vice versa. As part of our drive to improve communication with
parents, the School shares the issues that were raised and discussed during the forum via e-mail
with parents of the same year group.
Next week’s parents forums are :

Japanese Concert
Tenby Schools Ipoh will host a concert performance of operatic and vocal music by visiting
musicians from Japan. The concert, which is generously sponsored by Kinta Properties, Ipoh, is
open to all Tenby students aged 13 to 18 and their parents (although priority will be given to seating
students). The concert programme includes a mixture of popular Italian opera arias and duets
as well as Japanese and Italian songs. Our students will also have the opportunity to engage
with the performers in a question and answer session at the end.
Admission is free of charge and we hope that many students and parents will come lend their
support. A circular has gone out to secondary students regarding this concert. You may also contact
Dr. Jeff Rowlands the Director of Music for more information.
The details of the concert :
Day and date: Sunday, November 8th, 2015
Time: 16:00hrs
Duration: 1 hour
Venue: Auditorium, Tenby Schools Ipoh, Meru Campus
Dress code: Smart casual (Strictly no shorts or slippers)
Interact Club Activities
The Interact Club of Tenby Schools Ipoh has been busy planning a host of activities of late. Firstly
Dr Sumitra Sivasuntharam, a General Surgeon with Pantai Hospital Ipoh and an expert in breast
cancer awareness has been invited to give a talk to our secondary students on Monday 2nd
November. It is part of the run up to the charity drive which the Interactors hope to raise funds for
Persatuan Pink Champion Perak (PPCP). This organisation is community based with aims to
combat breast cancer and ensuring medical assistance for those who are stricken by this illness.
This will be followed by International Understanding Day on 7th November. It is a day where Interact
members from Tenby and several schools in Ipoh come together to raise awareness about a
chosen theme. This year’s theme is ‘Bollywood’. I am sure we will expect to see some dancing and
singing and not forgetting lots of fun and entertainment!
Deepavali Dress Up
Remember that Friday 6th November will be a day where students may come dressed in Deepavali
costume for the day to celebrate Deepavali.
Movember
Lastly, our PE teacher Ricky Singh will once again grow his moustache for Noah’s Ark, a charity
cause close to his heart. We will post photos of his moustache as it grows! There will be a box in
the office should you want to make any moving contributions.

As one of the post UPSR activities, the students of KBSR 6 participated in
their first “brain power” activity. The theme of the activity was “How can
you help the elderly at home who have no body to assist them on a
day-to-day basis?”
The students were divided into six groups. Each group had to make
something that would help the elderly in their daily activities or to release
some burden off their shoulders. Each group came up with some
spectacular ideas and worked as a team to build their model. For
example, the fourth group, “The White Shining Stars”, built a robot to
assist the elderly with their house chores. We also had a group, “The
Midnight”, who created a machine that could help sweep the floor. It could
also hang things up.
On 21st October, the six groups presented their models in front of the
class and were judged by Ms. Thiba and Ms. Ramani. Each group
explained what their model can do and how it would help the elderly folks.
The students also explained the price of the model if they were to rebuild
it using different materials such as metal or copper for example. Everyone
had fun and we discovered new things while doing this project.

News from Tenby Early Years Centre Ipoh (TEYCI)
Coffee Afternoon cum Read Write Inc Workshop was a great success. Parents had a wonderful time mingling and chatting over coffee/tea and some snacks. They had a clearer picture of what Read Write Inc. Phonics is all about during the presentation followed by the classroom demo by teachers from the respective level to the parents. Parents will be guided further on this programme in time to come and parents are welcomed to call over to see Head of School, Mrs Puvanes via appointment.
We received an over whelming response from parents during our Open Day held on 24.11.15.
Various activities were arranged for the visitors such as Kids Zumba, Physical workout,
Fishing, sand play and most importantly class demo. Many have taken application form to join
the school tentatively in January 2016. Overall it was a successful day.

Mission to Mars Assembly
Class: Year 5 Blue and Year 5 Green
On 28th October, the students of Year 5 presented their assembly entitled ‘Mission to Mars’. The theme is in line with
the IPC topic which they are learning- Living in Space. The assembly started with a play about the planets in the solar
system by a group of students. The play also brought the audience’s attention to the possibility of finding a second
home on Mars because its conditions are more favourable to us and closer to those on Earth, compared to other
planets.
Then, the students put up an enthralling dance of the outer space, as if to make their presence felt on Mars! Next, the
narrator explained that while it is indeed a great idea to explore Mars in search of another home, it is important for
humans to realise the importance of preserving our environment and protect the Earth from further destruction by
human greed and activities.
The message was further reinforced in a poem called ‘Planet Earth’ in the style of a rap. The assembly ended with the
students rendering a beautiful song, ‘What a Wonderful World’ in appreciation of the beauty planet Earth has to offer.
The acting Principal applauded the class teachers and the students for their hard work and wonderful performance.

Year 8 Yellow Assembly
On Wednesday, Year 8 Yellow had their class assembly. Students were given the task of researching different
outstanding children from history and to devise a sketch about their lives and achievements. Our core message
was to live life to the fullest and to pursue your dreams.
The children did a great job, their performance went without a hitch and got a loud applause from their peers. I am
very proud of the hard work they put into this assembly, coming in their breaks and lunchtimes and writing their
own scripts.
Well done Year 8 Yellow from Ms. Hewson!
