Integration of PROFIBUS PA and FOUNDATION Fieldbus

PROFIBUS DP is used in many installations to connect drives,

pumps, remote I/O and analyzers. SIMATIC PCS 7 thus has auniform architecture for linking all distributed devices and

technologies. PROFIBUS DP is a fixed component of SIMATIC

PCS 7, and is transparent for the user. It is both a system bus

and an open communication system. This structure permits a

central or distributed configuration of all connected systems

and devices independent of the vendor.

In addition, PROFIBUS DP supports transmission of the

HART protocol, and is the link between fieldbus systems

such as PROFIBUS PA and FOUNDATION Fieldbus and the

    SIMATIC PCS 7.

PROFIBUS DP has been able to prove its exceptional reliability

in the field for more than 10 years already, with an installedbasis of almost 30 million nodes.

The SIMATIC PCS 7 distributed control system (V7.1 Service

Pack 2 and higher) allows customers to freely select their field-

bus instrumentation as a result of seamless integration of

    PROFIBUS PA and FOUNDATION Fieldbus.

PROFIBUS PA and FOUNDATION Fieldbus profit equally from

    the host PROFIBUS architecture.

    Active field distributors 3

    Active field distributors

The active field distributors (AFD) make a decisive contribution toward increasing availability, and permit both replacement of devices

and expansion of the plant during operation

The SIMATIC active field distributors provide maximumavailability, and open up new dimensions for online

    modification of fieldbus segments.

With conventional fieldbus installations, modifications during

operation are only possible to a very limited extent. Great cau-

tion is necessary when connecting new devices. Short-circuits

or bouncing of the connections during installation can result

in failure of the complete segment. The design principle does

not allow removal, replacement or expansion of subsegments

of the main line during operation.

Thanks to the innovative properties of the SIMATIC active fielddistributors, these limitations belong to the past. The new dis-

tributors feature short-circuit-proof connections for the spur

lines. In the event of a wire break or short-circuit on the main

line, an intelligent logic circuit automatically isolates the

faulty subsegments and provides the automatic bus termina-

tion. These properties significantly increase the availability of

the fieldbus segment, and open up completely new dimen-

    sions for modifications during operation:

Devices can be added or replaced.

The main line can be extended or shortened during

    operation.

A flexible expansion fieldbus ring topology can be set up to

    increase availability.

Unused spare connections need not be planned since a

segment can be expanded at any time by installing further

field distributors for additional field devices.

    Architectures

    Line architecture

In this case, the field devices are connected to a bus line seg-ment by means of the short-circuit-proof spur lines of up to

8 active field distributors AFD. The last AFD automatically

    activates its bus terminating resistor.

    Line architectures with redundant couplers

The active field splitter (AFS) connects a bus line segment to

two feeding field device couplers FDC 157. The AFS switches

over the fieldbus line to the active redundant coupler in each

case. Hot swapping of the couplers is possible.

Ring architecture with bus coupler and media redundancy

Active field distributors (AFD) integrate the connected field

devices via short-circuit-proof spur line connections into a

fieldbus ring. The ring is closed by the redundant bus cou-

    plers.

Hot swapping of the couplers and AFDs is possible. The

function of the field devices on the non-affected AFD is not

    restricted.

The bus termination of the complete segment is carried out

    fully automatically.

Active field distributor (AFD) of the new generation: AFDiS for use in Zones 1 and 2

The new 6-channel field barrier SIMATIC AFDiS now also

    facilitates fault-tolerant, intrinsically-safe fieldbus instal-

    lations

The AFDiS limits the energy on the spur lines in hazardousareas, and electrically isolates these from the main line. There-

fore intrinsically-safe field devices can also be supplied from

a high-power fieldbus coupler via the AFDiS, thus allowing

significantly larger quantity frameworks than with an intrinsi-

cally-safe fieldbus supply. The AFDiS can be installed in Zones

1 and 2 (or Zones 21 and 22). All spur lines are of EEx ia design

and can even be routed into Zone 0. Thus explosion protec-

tion in accordance with the FISCO model can be implicitly

    proven without complex calculations.

First field barrier with integral repeater function for even

    more rugged fieldbus communication

An integral fieldbus repeater is used with the SIMATIC AFDiS.

The communication signals between main line and spur lineare reproduced in both directions. This results in significantly

higher signal quality and absence of reactions between the

main and spur lines. In addition to the substantial increase

in the ruggedness of fieldbus segments, this design also has

    other positive features:

All spur lines can be designed with the maximum permissi-

ble length of 120 m (60 m with FISCO), independent of the

number of devices connected on the segment.

The main line can be dimensioned up to a maximum of

1 900 m independent of the spur line lengths.

The first spur line outgoing feeder can be operated as a

spur line or as a subsegment with a length of up to 500 m. The quantity framework of up to 32 nodes permissible for

PROFIBUS PA and FOUNDATION Fieldbus H1 can also be

    fully utilized for intrinsically-safe installations.

The AFDiS is suitable both for line topologies and for

designing redundant rings in safe and hazardous areas.

    FOUNDATION Fieldbus link 7

    FOUNDATION Fieldbus link

Foundation Fieldbus is now integrated seamlessly into

SIMATIC PCS 7 analogous to the PA link. The FF Link with the

field device coupler FDC 157 provides integral power condi-tioning.

Parameterization and configuration are carried out centrally.

In addition, FOUNDATION Fieldbus is supported by SIMATIC

PCS 7 asset management. The diagnostics screens are auto-

    matically generated by the system.

The same architectures can be implemented with the active

field distributors as with PROFIBUS PA. All advantages of the

    field distributors can be used.

The field devices are integrated using the SIMATIC Manager

and SIMATIC PDM. The following steps are required:

Import of device description into the catalog using the

    Device Integration Manager

    Configuration of FF link

    Configuration of FF device

    Parameterization with SIMATIC PDM

The process values can be connected to the application in the

normal way using the channel drivers of the SIMATIC PCS 7

Advance Process Library (APL). The associated diagnostics

drivers are automatically generated by the system.

    Control in the field

In addition to operator control and monitoring of process

values, the user can connect FF function blocks together into

control loops using the interconnection editor ("control in the

    field").

Applications generated in this manner are executed indepen-

dent of the host controller and link master.

    Device management

Device management is integrated in SIMATIC PDM and com-

prises functions and tasks such as:

    Management of the device description

    Device parameterization

    Device status indication

    LifeList

    Document management

SIMATIC Process Device Manager PDM supports HART, PROFIBUS and

    FOUNDATION Fieldbus
