KD DELIVERS• Kyle Davis’ pass to Jordan Sibert was perhaps the most memorable by any UD player making his collegiate debut. Davis found Sibert for the game-winner against IPFW as time expired. • Davis enjoyed another highlight reel play with an ESPN Top 10 Play with his dunk against Cal.• Davis finished with 12 points versus Cal.

FOUR SCORE• Kendall Pollard broke out versus No. 10/11 Gonzaga in a big way. After not scoring a point or taken a shot in his first four games, he shot 4-of-4 from the floor and finished with nine points.• Scored six points on 3-of-4 shooting versus Delaware State.

STEAL OF A DEAL• Dayton tied a program record with 17 steals at Georgia Tech. In fact, 10 of the 11 players for UD had at least one steal versus the Yellow Jackets.

THE EYE ON SPORTS IS WATCHING THE FLYERS• CBSSports.com gave UD some love this preseason. Jordan Sibert is considered one of the 20 impact transfers, Dyshawn Pierre is one of the under-the-radar sophomores ready to breakout, Scoochie Smith a Top 20 under-the-radar freshmen and coach Archie Miller is a coach on the rise according to analyst Jon Rothstein.

OLIVER & SANFORD NAMED CAPTAINS• Dayton basketball coach Archie Miller said seniors Devin Oliver and Vee Sanford have been elected captains in a vote of the players.

UD PICKED 7TH IN A-10 POLL• Dayton was picked to finish in seventh in the 2013 Atlantic 10 Men’s Basketball Preseason Poll.

THIRD IS THE WORD• Dayton has hit at least one 3-point shot in 158 straight regular season games.

BEST IN NCAA ATTENDANCE• The University of Dayton finished in the Top 30 in men’s basketball attendance for the 16th straight season in 2012-13. The Flyers finished 26th in the NCAA in attendance with an average of 12,438. UD increased its average attendance by 274 fans per game from last season.

THE FLYER FAITHFUL• For years, UD has claimed it has had the best fans in the nation. In 2001, The Sporting News conducted an unscientific poll of college basketball coaches, media and SIDs. In the Jan. 8, 2001 issue of the magazine, UD’s fans were tabbed as college basketball’s best. And they prove it to everyone when the Flyers play. The Flyers finished the 2012-13 regular season averaging 12,438 fans a game.

100-PLUS SELLOUTS AT UD ARENA• UD Arena has had 101 sellouts in its 43-year history. The record for sellouts is eight in the Arena’s first season (1969-70). Dayton sold out the Butler and Xavier games last year.

HEAD COACH ARCHIE MILLER University of Dayton head basketball coach Ryan “Archie” Miller is regarded as one of the game’s brightest young coaches. At just 34, Miller has led the Flyers to 37 wins in two seasons.

Dayton finished the 2011-12 season 20-13 overall and earned a bid to the National Invitation Tournament for the third straight season.

In 2012-13, the Flyers were 17-14 with a depleted roster that included wins over Alabama, Murray State, Xavier and Richmond.

Miller came to UD from the University of Arizona in 2011 where as Associate Head Coach under his brother Sean, he helped the Wildcats to a 30-8 season that ended with an Elite Eight berth. Arizona had the biggest turnaround of any top program in the NCAA, improving by 14 wins.

In just nine years in the coaching profession, the Beaver Falls, Pa. native has been able to coach in the ACC, the Big Ten and the Pac 10 while working in some of the nation’s most fertile recruiting grounds in the East, Midwest and West. His wide range of responsibilities at all of his coaching stops have allowed him to learn from three of the most-respected coaches in the country while developing contacts from coast-to-coast.

Miller is regarded as a top recruiter – his last class of incoming recruits at Arizona were a Top 10 class – and game strategist – he was the architect of Arizona’s upset of eighth-ranked Texas to get them to the 2011 Sweet 16.

That really shouldn’t be a surprise. Basketball is the family business. Archie and Sean both played high school basketball for their father John at Blackhawk High School. John was one of the country’s top coaches when he retired in 2005, with 657 wins in a 35-year coaching career. Archie, Sean and their sister Lisa all played Division I college basketball.

The Millers are one of seven brother combinations in Division I. The others are: Bryce (Valparaiso) and Scott (Baylor) Drew; Bill (New Hampshire) and Tom (Marshall) Herrion; Dan (Rhode island) and Bobby (Buffalo) Hurley; James (Yale) and Joe (Boston U) Jones; Don (Idaho) and Ron (Pacific) Verlin; and Dave (San Jose State) and Doug (College of Charleston) Wojcik.

Miller was a four-year letterwinner at North Carolina State (1998-2002). A point guard with an excellent shooting touch, he is third at NC State in career FT% (.846, 165-195), fourth in career threes (218) and sixth in career 3-pt. FG% (.429, 218-509).

The 19th coach ever at Dayton, Miller is just the sixth Flyer coach in the last 66 years.

DAYTON MEN’S BASKETBALL NOTES200 AND COUNTING• Dayton’s game versus Charlotte on Feb. 15, 2012 marked the 200th consecutive UD regular season home game with an attendance of at least 11,000 fans. The Flyers now have 224 straight.

THE 99 PERCENT• In the last 15 years, 99% of UD’s home games have drawn at least 10,000 (462 of 465), including the last 262 regular season games.

DAYTON TO PLAY IN THE 2014 PUERTO RICO TIP-OFF• The Dayton Flyers will play in the eighth annual Puerto Rico Tip-Off next November. The tournament will be held Thursday, Friday and Sunday, Nov. 20, 21 and 23.• The field for the 2014 Puerto Rico Tip-Off will feature Boston College, College of Charleston, UConn, Dayton, George Mason, New Mexico, Texas A&M and West Virginia.• This will be the second time the Flyers will play in the Puerto-Rico Tip-Off. UD played in the event in 2009.• The 2014 Puerto Rico Tip-Off will be the 7th consecutive in-season tournament UD will have participated in.

TUNE IN•The Flyers will be seen on television a record 30 times during the 2013-14 regular season. UD will have 30 of its 31 regular season games televised during the regular-season. • A total of 16 games will air on national television. UD will play nine games on the ESPN family of networks, five on CBS Sports Network and two on NBC Sports Network.

POINT GUARD DARRELL DAVIS, CENTER STEVE MCELVENE SIGN WITH DAYTON• Archie Miller announced the signing of two top high school players to letters of intent on Nov. 13. They are 6-foot-4 guard Darrell Davis from Detroit Douglass High School, and 6-foot-11 center Steve McElvene from New Haven High School in New Haven, Ind.• Davis became the first recruit in the class of 2014 for UD when he committed in September shortly after making his official visit to the University of Dayton campus. The 6-foot-4 point guard is a four-star player who is ranked as high as 102nd in the country by Rivals.• Originally from Indiana, McElvene stock rose this summer while he played on a talented Spiece Indy Heat team that featured two top 25 prospects. He chose Dayton over offers from teams in the ACC and Big 12.

GRADUATION RATE SUCCESS• In the NCAA’s recently-released Graduation Success Rate report, the University of Dayton ranked 16th-best in the country with a GSR score of 96. That matches the best score in school history and is the highest of any current member of the Atlantic 10.

DID YOU KNOW? • UD won more games than any other school in both the 1950s and `60s. UD won 435 games between 1950 and 1969 and ranks among the top teams of the 1950s and 1960s in Division I history. The Flyers’ .763 (228-71) winning percentage in the 1950s ranks fifth in the decade. Their .729 (207-77) winning percentage ranks eighth in the 1960s.

DAYTON MEN’S BASKETBALL NOTES

INVESTMENT IN BASKETBALL

The initiatives are:

• The relocation of the 1,800 square foot basketball weight room at the Donoher Center to a new 10,000 square foot state-of-the-art Athletic Performance Center adjacent to the Baujan Field/Frericks Center/Cronin Center complex on campus.

• The renovation of the Donoher Basketball Center to make use of the space vacated by the weight room, as well as upgrades to the locker rooms and open spaces currently being used by the Flyer basketball and football teams.

• A complete renovation of the Frericks Center, including increased investment in the Flyers’ national-ly-ranked volleyball program with a new locker room just off the court, enhanced game-day and practice environments, a new lobby area and improved office spaces.

While the UD men’s and women’s basketball teams will be the highest-profile programs to utilize the Athletic Performance Center, it will benefit all 17 sports programs. The location, which is attached to the east side of the Frericks Center, will allow nearly all 450 of the University’s student-athletes to live, eat, train, practice and study within a 500-yard radius.

This summer the University of Dayton Board of Trustees approved facility projects costing $6 million, which will push the Flyers’ investments in athletics facilities past $40 million over the last 15 years.

He committed to Providence to be part of its 2010 recruiting class, but was unable to play there due to complications in transferring his French scholastic credits. Because of this, he is considered an international transfer and had four years to complete his eligibility. He sat out the 2010-11 season and worked with Dan Barto at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, to improve his basketball skills while taking academic coursework to ensure his eligibility. Even though he did not play that winter in the United States, Gavrilovic won a gold medal in 2010 at the European championships in Zadar, Croatia with the French U-20 National Basketball Team and worked out against pros who train at IMG. At IMG in 2009-10, he played 67 games against some of the best prep school and junior college competition in the country.

After averaging 1.9 points and 2.3 rebounds a game, and shooting .451 (23-of-51) from the field and .571 (16-of 28) from the line in 30 games as a sophomore, Kavanaugh upped those numbers to 9.0, 5.9, .546 (113-of-207) and .807 (71-of-88) in 33 starts.
