Dear Parents / Carers,
Welcome back to Term 4!
2021 SCHOOL INTENTIONS Many thanks to the parents who have already returned the blue ‘2021 School Intentions’ forms to school. If you haven’t already done so, please do by Monday (12 October). The forms were emailed home to you all on Tuesday and all students were also handed printed copies to take home. If you need another, please contact the office.
2021 STAFFING UPDATE 2021 will bring significant changes to the staffing at NASS. Please note the following:
SWD Teacher Aide, Gracen White will be leaving us to complete her teaching degree fulltime.
SWD Teacher, Lisa O’Dea will be leaving to become a first-time Mum in February.
SWD Teacher, Dominique Esposito will be transferring to Tallara State College.
PE Teacher, John McKie will be transferring to the new school at Palmview SS as their PE Teacher. Our new PE teacher will be Kris Kearney, who is very experienced and currently teaching PE at Palmwoods SS.
Prep Teacher, Fiona Bell will be leaving us to retire, after 20 years of dedicated teaching service and commitment to Queensland Education (7 of these years have been at NASS).
Music Teacher, Steve Pead will be leaving us to retire, after 15 years of dedicated teaching service and commitment to Queensland Education (13 of these years have been at NASS). We are delighted to announce that Ms Bec Summers will replace Steve as our general Music teacher, whilst continuing in her role as Instrumental Music Teacher.
And finally, my news….I also have made the very hard decision to retire at the end of this year. After 32 consecutive years of fulltime dedication, service and commitment to Qld Education (7 years as a teacher and 25 years as a Principal (8 years at NASS), I’ve decided that it’s time to hang up my chalk and leave school. At this stage I’m unsure what this will mean regarding my replacement, but the department is hoping to have a permanent new Principal appointed, ready to commence the new school year.
I know this is a bittersweet time for all departing NASS staff, but we look forward to making this the best term ever at NASS and we hope to see you all before we leave.

SCHOOL DENTAL SERVICE The School Dental Service will be offering ‘free’ dental care at your child’s school. Due to Government COVID19
restrictions only one parent / guardian may attend dental appointments with your child. Please do not bring other children. We are observing school protocols for visitors, so when we contact you regarding your child’s dental appointment, we will let you know how to access the dental van / clinic. If you or your child feels unwell or have recently travelled overseas or interstate, we ask that you phone dental staff prior to the appointment. If you have any concerns or in the case of emergency dental care for your children - Please phone 5441 2763. Thank you for helping us to ensure everyone stays safe and healthy. We look forward to seeing you and looking after your children’s oral health.
PBL did you know…….. our current focus is Being Safe, Being a Learner and Being Respectful on Camps, Excursions and Incursions? Really important if our kids are to get the most out of these special activities. These
occasions put our young ones outside their normal routine and perhaps with various instructors so how great is it that we encourage them to follow these 3 rules to benefit themselves and their classmates! And Term 4 is packed full of special events, exciting weeks ahead.

P&C MEETING The October P&C meeting will be held on Tuesday (13 October) at 6.00pm in the Library. Please see the flyer later in this email for details regarding the agenda. 2021 CURRICULUM ENRICHMENT SURVEY Many thanks to the 101 families who have already completed the survey. If you haven’t yet done so, please read on and click on the link below to complete the survey (one response per family only thanks) before this Friday (9 Oct) at 9am: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/J28Y8KT 2021 NASS KITCHEN GARDEN PROGRAM Following extensive school and community consultation, it has been decided that the 2021 Kitchen Garden Program will change from being a ‘Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program’ to a ‘Living Classroom Project’. Year 3 & 4 students will participate in a program intensively (4 x Kitchen + 4 x Garden lessons every term) at a cost of $144 for the 32 lessons throughout the year. Year 5 & 6 students will participate in the diluted program (2 x Kitchen + 2 x Garden lessons every term) at a cost of $72 for the 16 lessons throughout the year. We are delighted to be able to offer this program intensively (as it was intended) to our Year 3 & 4 students, whilst still maintaining some Kitchen Garden experience for our Year 5 & 6 students. We are also very excited about the change to becoming a ‘Living Classroom Project’ school, and this means that we are very fortunate to retain the services of Ness as our Garden expert and Lis, as our Kitchen expert. I trust this newsletter has delivered lots for you to digest. I’m looking forward to a wonderful final term at NASS, and to saying farwell closer to the time. Kind Regards
Kelly
Hi All, Thank you parents for your support over the Junior and Senior Sports Days. It was great we were able to hold our carnivals, and I'm sure the students thoroughly enjoyed them. It was also great to see the student’s competitive spirit and sportsmanship displayed during the carnivals. Congratulations to students in the winning Houses that were crowned winners of the three shields that students were competing for.
