LIBRARY NEWS P&C ASSOCIATION

It's great to see school operating at 100%. The staff have made the return back for students smoothly, so they are back to the new 'normal'. Thanks to all who are supporting the canteen and don't forget the uniform is operating for all your winter needs.

No meeting date has been organised at the moment, however we will try and have one before the end of term, so watch this space!

Always here to have a chat if you have any concerns - just call the office for my contact details. Stay safe Melinda McCormick - President

Thank you to the Kyogle Community for your support for all of our students during COVID-19. We thank our

parents and carers for working with the school to support continued learning

under very different circumstances.

Return to School Staff and students have made a smooth return to ‘business as usual’ in the classroom although excursions, visitors to the school and sporting events are still off the calendar. We are aware as a school that COVID-19 has had an impact on the experiences and learning of our students. To help us reflect on what we did well or would do different next time , we are surveying our parents/carers as well as students and staff. We will look at this feedback and use it to self reflect and make decisions on what worked, what didn’t and what we would do different next time around. Attendance It is great to see the majority of our students return to school. Now, more than ever, full day attendance is essential for student re-engagement in classroom learning. I do ask that parents not to make appointments or organise activities to take students out of school unless it is unavoidable. Semester 1 Reports We have redesigned our Semester 1 Reports to reflect the impact of COVID-19 on students learning. Students will still be assessed on syllabus outcomes but instead of an A-E grade, teachers will report in terms of Achieved or Working Towards achieving the outcome. Reports will be distributed on the last day of Term 2. Minimum Standards Students need reading, writing and numeracy for everyday life after school. This is why students in NSW are being supported to meet a minimum standard of literacy and numeracy to receive the HSC from 2020. Currently Mrs Wilson is working with students in Year 10,11 and 12 with practicing the tests and then sitting the online tests.

Gae Masters

It has been some time since my last newsletter as our school travels though the Covid-19 period. Face to face classes have returned but as a school community we are still restricted around assemblies and celebration and recognition, excursions, visits to the school and participation in sport. We have had little opportunity across the period to acknowledge the land and our traditional custodians so through this column I acknowledge on behalf of KHS; the traditional custodians of this land on which we learn and work together and commit to building relationships, respect and opportunities for all aboriginal people in our community. I am very proud of how staff, students and our community have responded to teaching and learning during the restrictions and on our return to more usually routines. Sport and social interaction is still restricted however, affecting our Wednesday afternoon program. Staff and students have responded successfully to a literacy and numeracy skills challenges developed to improve student skills through individual and group challenges across our Wednesday afternoons. This challenge will continue through mentor groups across Stage 4 and Stage 5 learning. Hopefully before the end of term we may have the ability to participate in some sporting activities. Returning to face to face teaching and learning reminds us all of the importance of learning intentions directing student learning in all classes and our PBL expectations maintaining respect and opportunity for all. Our criteria for success remains at all times a high expectation of both teacher and student participation and achievement. I believe this includes the wearing of full school uniform and regular attendance to all classes. I encourage all students and parent/carers to dress in uniform as proud KHS students. A reminder that the following items, Kyogle Rugby League apparel and tights, are not KHS uniform. Thank you for your assistance in this matter. David Hanley

PERSONAL LEARNING PATHWAYS

Kyogle High School is preparing to meet with Aboriginal students and their families to develop students' individual learning plans. Originally we planned to meet in Term 1 however we have had to reschedule our meetings until Term 3. Student Personal Learning Pathways (PLP) are plans that help students and their families set educational goals for school. Teachers use the plans to make sure their lessons are meeting the needs of our students. Kyogle High has been unable to host visitors to the site which is an important part of the school process to meet with students and their families. We are looking forward to commencing this as soon as possible and we look forward to working together to help our students meet their goals.

VACCINATION PROGRAM

NSW SCHOOL VACCINATION PROGRAM Each year NSW Health works in partnership with schools to offer the vaccines recommended by the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) for adolescents as part of the school vaccination program. In 2020 the following vaccines will be offered: Parent Information Kits that include an information sheet, consent form and privacy statement will be sent home to parents/guardians. To consent to the vaccination of their child, parents/guardians are advised to:

• read all the information provided

• complete the consent form, including signing their name next to the vaccine/s they would like their child to receive

• return the completed consent form to their child’s school

• ensure that their child eats breakfast on the day of the school vaccination clinic. Please note that, to improve vaccination completion, students will be opportunistically offered any missed doses during Year 7 or 8 (for HPV and DTP vaccination) and during Year 10 or 11 (for Meningococcal ACWY vaccination). Parents/guardians who wish to withdraw their consent for any reason may do so by writing to the school Principal or phoning the school. The Procedure for Withdrawal of Consent is available on the NSW Health website at www.health.nsw.gov.au/immunisation/ Pages/withdraw_consent.aspx. A Record of Vaccination will be provided to each student vaccinated at each clinic either as a physical card or a text message sent to the mobile number recorded on the consent form. Details about vaccinations given at school will also be uploaded to the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) to support complete vaccination histories. On June 19th Year 10 will be receiving their vaccinations, along with Year 7 catch-ups.

TAS With the return of students this term, classrooms are a hive of activity. It is great to see smiling faces and lots of interaction with teachers face to face again. A big well done to all TAS staff for their amazing efforts with adjusting resources and modifying lessons through the remote learning phase. I have very much appreciated, as I am sure did our parents, all the work staff did to continue student learning remotely, along with providing follow up support to students, during our remote learning experience. Great work TAS staff!

Now that students are back, we are so pleased to have them here and even happier to see them being happy in classes. Last week Year 12 Hospitality students did an amazing food to order service for all our school staff as a thank you for their hard work and effort during our remote learning period. All Hospitality students carried out their station roles exceptionally well, considering they made a huge volume of yummy beef, chicken and vegetarian burgers with a choice of potato, polenta chips and buttermilk onions. Our students excelled at this task providing meals as takeaways from our Hospitality room, to adhere to social distancing requirements. Thank you to students and staff for participation in this event.

COMMUNITY ANNOUNCEMENTS

This week our Year 12 Hospitality students completed a cooking task making bruschetta and learnt how to decorate a plate with basil oil. While it is not as easy as it looks, it does take practice to get the presentation right every time. However, all students were keen to give it a go and had fun in the process.

Excellent effort Year 12!
