Widgets: Empower the Form The Ricoh eQuill tablet offers very fast pen tracking and enables users to write at a smooth and natural pace. This feature makes the tablet ideal for capturing unstructured handwritten user inputs on forms. Widgets empower and extend these handwriting capabilities, adding structure and simplicity to form data capture.

■ Image Drop Area. If an image drop area is selected, pictures taken with the Ricoh eQuill built-in camera will be captured and embedded as metadata in the eWriter Form.

■ Labels. Labels are uneditable fields of displayed information that cannot be changed by the user or written upon.

■ Text Input Field. Text input fields add the ability to capture typed text entered through the tablet's soft pop-up keyboard.

■ Drop Down List. A drop down list provides a choice of user-selectable options. Only one option can be selected per list.

The eWriter Form Designer supports the layout of these widgets:

■ Checkbox. Checkboxes add the ability to select from a list of inputs by simply checking or unchecking the associated box. Checkboxes are not mutually exclusive and so multiple inputs can be captured for a single field type.

■ Radio Button. Radio buttons provide the ability to select from a group of mutually exclusive choices. Only one input can be captured per field type.

■ Toggle Button. Toggle buttons provide the ability to make a stateful “on” or “off” selection. Toggle buttons allow one stateful value to be captured for a single field type. If checked, the input is "on"; otherwise it is "off".

eWriter Form Designer supports the layout of these widgets.

Memphis File Format. eWriter forms are based on a powerful, platform-independent file format, called Memphis. The Memphis file format supports data capture, storage and exchange and is comprised of three layers - Background Image, Widget and Strokes - enabling structured (widget) and unstructured (stylus/stroke) data to be captured in the context of a background display image. The eWriter Form Designer provides the ability to select or replace the background layer with PDF images created with popular design tools. Widget operations add and modify widgets on the Memphis file format widget layer.
