The Challenges from DataCity Paris 1st Edition
10
How to improve energy consumption behavior? Make technical efficiency and behavioral efficiency work together to decrease the size of business’ footprints. Experiment with technical, technological, informative and fun levers!
How to make buildings smarter?Use sound signal analysis technologies to assist the energy managers in the detection of anomalies in facilities.
How to consolidate energy flows to design “positive energy blocks”? Estimate and monitor gains brought by energy mutualization, tested on a city block comprised of municipal, residential and tertiary buildings.
How to improve short trips? Design a city bus solution for short and flexible trips by using the nineteenth borough of Paris as an experimentation field.
How to foresee tomorrow’s public spaces? Using Big Data to predict pedestrian comfort and quantify the impact of public spaces reorganization. First test zone on “Place de la Nation”.

STARTUPS OR GROUP OF
INDIVIDUALSCORPORATIONS
CITY
Program adapted to the local ecosystem: • Limited number of existing startups • No open innovation experience within local private companies • Few data sets available
Key differences with DataCity Paris: • Pilot project for all participants • Building a local entrepreneurship ecosystem from scratch •Strong focus on trainings & events (open to all) throughout the program • Application open to individuals and startups • Wide challenges; experimentation focused on solutions ideation (new product or service)
The Perspective of Cities
13
80% of data used for DataCity experimentations come from the private sector
Leverage private data for the benefit of public good
Be ahead of the game to anticipate future disruptions
Engage citizens in data usage
Work closely with the smart city and tech ecosystem
« DataCity addressed the challenges of the modern city with new methods , and allowed Paris City Hall to involve various city services to promote internal transformation of our administration »
Jean-‐Philippe Clement -‐ Chief Data Officer, City of Paris
Involve a large number of City Agencies to get their issues solved, leveraging the strength of a local & international ecosystems
Bring City agencies, infrastructure, tech or data companies, as well as entrepreneurs to the same table
Use DataCity as a powerful communication tool and source data-‐based challenge(s) from citizens
The Perspective of Sponsors
14
All collaborations between startups and corporations led to a prototype to test the viability of the designed solution. Higher success rate than most other approaches: 3 out of 5 experiments led to the development of a common commercial offer between the corporation and the startup during the 1st edition of Data City Paris.
of startups’ CEO would recommend the program to other startups’ CEO.
corporate sponsors of the first DataCity edition immediately engaged in the second edition.
"DataCity helps us accelerate the digitization of Cities and the emergence of new services for Public and Private players.”

The Perspective of Startups

« DataCity enabled us to define and validate our positioning in the ecosystem. On the one hand, we benefitted from NUMA’s support to define an offer. On the other hand, the expertise of the partners and a concrete use case helped us validate our position. »
Fivos Maniatakos, CEO, Sensewaves
SMART BUILDING : HOW TO MAKE SMARTER BUILDINGS?
«One of the main interest of DataCity is to create an environment of trust between all partners. We worked closely with the City of Paris, Nexity, or Setec. This is hugely valuable. One example of the use of the program is that we are now developing new offers with Nexity.»
ENERGY : HOW TO SHARE ENERGY ON THE SCALE OF A CLUSTER OF BUILDINGS?
Riad Ziour, CEO, Open Energy
NUMA DataCity: Our Key Differentiators
16
NUMA does not have any conflict of interest with any Smart City Technology
Involves citizens, companies and entrepreneurs to address issues and new opportunities
What is the problem to solve? (and not : What is the solution to push?)
Time-‐boxing is at the essence of our startup acceleration methodology and allows huge results in a limited amount of time.
