SELF-COMPASSIONDURING COVID-19
An important concept of self-compassion is to understand that we all share in the humanexperience. Now is a time to remember thatyour experience of fear and discomfort is anormal reaction to current stessors.
You may experience difficult andchallenging emotions during this time. Itmay be helpful to label and identifyemotions you're experiencing. This can helpyou be present, increase a sense of calm, and increase the compassion you feeltowards yourself and others.
Reaching out for support is an important partof showing yourself kindness. All of us maystruggle with feeling disconnected during thistime. It may be beneficial to reach out toothers to decrease feelings of isolation andloneliness. This can also allow for you toshow compassion to others.
Kristin Neff, a leader in self-compassion,notes the importance of mindfulness inpracticing self-compassion. In being mindful,you allow yourself space to be aware of thepresent moment and attend to your thoughts,emotions, and physical sensations withoutjudgment which can lead to reducedemotional suffering and pain.
