The BW Community Arts School Department of Dance trains young dancers to have a solid technical foundation, a passion for the arts and positive self-expression. Our professional approach ensures each student receives comprehensive dance training in an environment that supports personal achievement, discipline, teamwork, creativity and respect. The dance curriculum is designed to train all ages, skill and confidence levels, whether their goals are for personal or professional growth.

DANCE DANCE ACADEMY18-week in-person* session at the Whistle Stop January 11 - May 22, 2021(no classes April 4 - April 10, 2021)*Students may opt to join virtually.Our well-rounded, comprehensive curriculum is designed to challenge dancers in multiple dance styles so they are able to develop a balanced set of skills and a deeper connection to artistry.

Junior Academy (ages 7-11) $575Dynamic Technique Mondays 5:00 - 6:00 p.m.Jazz/Contemporary Wednesdays 5:00 - 6:00 p.m.9 private lessons Dancers enrolled in Junior Academy must have multiple years of previous dance experience, knowledge of terminology and age appropriate technique. A placement evaluation is required for registration.

Dance Academy 1 (ages 12+) $825Dynamic Technique Mondays 6:15 - 7:45 p.m. Ballet Wednesdays 6:15 - 7:45 p.m. 9 private lessons Dance Academy 1 is designed to challenge beginner and intermediate students who are newer to their dance journey. No placement evaluation is required for registration.

We are committed to providing our families and the community with quality arts education in a safe environment. While we are offering both in-person and virtual classes this semester, our in-person classes follow thorough safety protocols guided by Baldwin Wallace University and the State of Ohio.

PRIVATE LESSONSPrivate lessons allow each student to develop independently through the careful guidance and mentorship of expert faculty. Capacity for private lessons in dance is based upon availability.

THEATRE

The Theatre Department at BW Community Arts School provides theatre and acting programs for students looking to grow as artists. This spring, the department will offer private lessons and workshops to students.

DALCROZEDalcroze classes offer a hands-on approach to music theory in which students explore musical concepts such as meter, tempo, phrase, form and dynamics through rhythm games, purposeful movement, songs, ear training, sight-singing and improvisation.

17-week virtual sessions January 13 - May 19 (No Class March 31 or April 7)

Intro to Dalcroze $245(ages 4-6, new students) Tuesdays, 4:15 - 5:00 p.m.

Dalcroze Eurhythmics* $245(ages 4-6) Wednesdays, 4:15 - 5:00 p.m.

Dalcroze Rhythmic-Solfege II* $272(ages 6+) Wednesdays, 5:15 - 6:15 p.m.

MUSICPLAYOur MusicPlay program is committed to providing meaningful musical experiences for little ones during their most crucial window of development.

SUZUKI CENTER FOR THE VIOLINThe Baldwin Wallace Suzuki Center offers private lessons and group classes using the Suzuki method for ages 4 & up. The establishment of the “Suzuki triangle” - teacher, student, parent - provides the stimulation and encouragement that children need to acquire other critical learning skills. Suzuki private lessons and group classes will be offered virtually in Spring 2021.

ENSEMBLESEnsembles remain at the heart of the Community Arts School. While we can’t host traditional rehearsals and performances, the Men’s Chorus, Women’s Chorus, New Horizons Band and New Horizons Orchestra continue to meet virtually and find ways to stay connected.

PRIVATE LESSONSPrivate lessons allow each student to develop independently through the careful guidance and mentorship of expert, credentialed faculty. The Community Arts School offers a rolling admission where students may enroll at any time during the semester.

MUSIC

The BW Community Arts School offers a wide array of instrumental and vocal instruction. From private lessons to classes and ensembles, there are opportunities for all ages and abilities. Leveraging the professional facilities and resources of Baldwin Wallace’s renown Conservatory of Music, CAS students are able to take advantage of immersive experiences with professional educators and conductors and find ways to engage in our professional development opportunities.

Painting (ages 15+)Mondays 6:00 - 7:00 p.m. $235Students will delve into the science and practice of representational painting while exploring viable tools of self-expression. *In-person at the Whistle Stop.

Drawing (ages 11-14)Tuesdays, 5:00 - 5:45 p.m. $205Designed to provide students an opportunity to explore the fundamentals of drawing, understanding value and drawing from imagination and observation.

Art Fundamentals (ages 13-16)Tuesdays, 6:15 - 7:00 p.m. $205Students will focus on the foundations of art while expressing themselves through their creativity.

Art Exploration 1 (ages 7-9)Thursdays, 5:00 - 5:45 p.m. $205 An introduction to basic art t echniques, the building blocks that will provide a solid foundation for future artists.

Art Exploration 2 (ages 10-12)Thursdays, 6:00 - 6:45 p.m. $205For students with the foundation of Art Exploration 1 or those who already have experience but would like to expand their knowledge and technique.

Intro to Photography (ages 15+)Thursdays, 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. $295Using the student’s DSLR camera, this course will cover the basic elements and principles of photography, design, as well as composition, lighting and image editing. Portfolio Prep (ages 14-18)Saturdays, 12:00 - 1:30 p.m. $335Designed for high school students wanting to expand their body of work and prepare a portfolio for college applications.

WORKSHOPSIn-person workshops for children and adults are offered throughout the year. Check our website for more details.
