MeetingsBusiness meetings are open to all members. The meetings are held every second Thursday at 6 p.m. in January, February, April, May, July, August, October and November

ScholarshipsThe Danville Art League will have scholarship applications available for student and adult classes offered in 2018. Call the Art League if you wish to have an application mailed to you.

If you haven’t renewed your membership, fill out the Annual Contributing Membership form on the back of your newsletter and mail back with your remittance. Please consider joining as a patron or supporting patron level when you send in your membership dues. Dues are: $55 min. for supporting patron, $40/yr patron, $30/yr family, $25 yr/individual or $10/yr student (with ID). Thank you!!!

Children’s classes

Class registration In order for us to plan and have the needed supplies on hand, we ask that students pre-register at least 1 week before the first day of any class. Call the Art League at 442-9264 and give your name, address, phone number and e-mail address to register for classes. Look for member Eileen Dunavan’s monthly article “Speak Easel” in the Commercial-News. She will be reporting on various happenings at the Art League.

Newspaper article

The first acrylic pouring class was so much fun, everyone requested another class. Carol Garver will again be the instructor. You may bring your own canvases or buy canvases the day of the class. (unfinished wood frames work well also) Beginners are welcome as well as students from Acrylic Pouring #1. We will have a potluck lunch. Please bring something to share. Class will be held Saturday, April 21 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Cost is $10 for supplies, plus any canvases you buy.

Poured painting #2

Saturday Art Adventure starts Saturday, March 24 and will run until Saturday, May 12. Class times are 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Art Adventure classes are for ages 6 to teens. Homeschool Classes start Monday, March 26 and will run until Monday, May 14. Times for these classes are 1 to 3 p.m. Please note that homeschool classes are for children 4 years old to 6th graders. There will be no class for the teens this session. Cost is $55, siblings $30 (there is a $5 discount if registration and payment is received a week before classes begin).

The Danville Garden Club is planning a bus trip to the Newfields Museum (formerly the Indianapolis Museum of Art) in Indianapolis on Thursday, June 14. The trip will cost $65. This fee will cover transportation, admission and tour fees of the Oldfields-Lilly House and Gardens, and gratuities. Please call 495-2006 or 442-0089 for more information.

Have you always wanted to learn how to make beautiful pottery, but were just too busy or not sure how to get started? Well, now is your chance! You don’t have to know anything about pottery, or you can know a lot. It’s all about having fun, making new friends, learning a new craft or improving on your current skills. The pottery club usually meets on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of the month. The club will meet from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This May, the pottery club will meet on May 5 and 19. This will only be for this month! You don’t have to be a member of the Art League to join. You must be at least 16 years old (no exceptions). Cost for Art League members is $5.00 per class or $7.00 per class for non-members. Supplies will be available for purchase. Sue Moudy will be the instructor. For more details, call the Art League at 442-9264.

The Pottery Club

The large flowers watercolor class has been rescheduled. Join us Saturday, March 17 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Learn some new techniques with watercolors. Learn to control the water and paint a very large flower. Carol Garver will teach this class with several different flowers you can trace or use one of your own photos. Supplies (paper, paint and brushes) will be provided or you can bring your own watercolors and brushes. There will be a potluck lunch at noon. Please bring something to share. Cost for the class is $25.

This class will focus on working from your own images. You must have taken some form of beginner acrylics class before taking this one. (Or approved by instructor.) Using your own supplies and images, you will be taught how to create great compositions and have potentially awesome artwork made by your own hands. Instructor Kem Wiggins will help you improve your skills as you go with instruction and guidance. You must provide your own supplies. The supply list will be provided when you register for the class. Classes will run on Mondays for five weeks, from April 30 - May 28 from 6 to 8 p.m. Cost is $55 plus your own supplies. If you pay at least a week in advance, you get a $5 discount. Minimum of 6 students. Maximum of 12 students.

The Southern Illinois Artists Workshops Spring Retreat will be May 21-23 at the DuBois Center in Southern Illinois. This is a great time to “get away” and be artistic with a fantastic group of fellow artists from around Illinois. There will be 3 different instructors. A soft pastel artist; a hand made Chenille (with your own materials); and acrylic “No Fear” Painting. All three sound like great fun. In addition, if you

Special one day exhibit for student

Join us on Saturday, June 2 for a special one day exhibit in our gallery. Look in our next newsletter for the time for her reception. Heather Simpson is currently a senior at Hoopeston Area High School. She is one of four in her class chosen as an Illinois State Scholar. This fall, Heather will be attending Olivet Nazarene University at the College of Fine and Applied Arts Program. She will be majoring in Art Education and minoring in Music Education. Heather obtained the highest Art Scholarship at Olivet University. She is currently the 2017 Miss Georgetown Fair Queen. Heather hopes to spend lots of time at the Danville Art League soon helping others. She is also very grateful for this opportunity presented to her by the Danville Art League to show others what she has created on her canvases.

Ready to take it to the next level with your acrylic painting skills? Step into the world of painting with acrylics with instructor Kem Wiggins. Learn what supplies you need and how to use them and work from instructor provided images. This class is intended to help build your skills and knowledge base on how to work with acrylic paints. No other class is required before taking this class. Bring pen/pencil and something to take notes on for the first night. The supply list will be provided the first night of class. Gallery exhibits

The Paul Brumaghim gallery will feature the ever popular Veteran’s exhibit from March 2 through 29. An artist reception will be held on Saturday, March 10 from 1 to 3 p.m. Mark your calendars for this event! The Town and Country Amateur Art Show will be held in the gallery during April. This show has junior and adult divisions. The reception for the show will be held Saturday, April 7 from 1 to 3 p.m. The Sharon Schmitz Regional Open Art Competition will then be in the gallery for May. The reception and critique for this show will be held Saturday, May 12 beginning at 1 p.m. Look for the entry forms at the Art League or to be sent with this newsletter. We look forward to many wonderful entries!

Garage sale The Art League will be having a garage sale on Saturday, May 5 from 8 a.m. to noon. If you have items you would like to donate for our sale, please drop them off during our business hours. No clothes please! Donation forms will be ready for anyone who wants one for tax purposes. If you would like to volunteer, please call the Art League.

Peer Court The Annual Peer Court Auction was held February 9 at Turtle Run. The Art League and Peer Court would like to thank the following members who donated works to the auction: Kolleen Asaad, Bonnie Bodensteiner, Sabrina Donnelly, Charlie Dyer (Nancy Dyer), Becky Engel, Carol Garver, Jane Holtz, Carole Reitz, Gary Resh, Steve Smith, Kem Wiggins and Roberta Williams. Peer Court participants have been very helpful to our organization by helping with projects at the league. Donating to the auction is our chance to show our appreciation!
