Read the text again. What animal do you think a bongum is similar to?
Either draw a picture of a bongum or write a description.
Then, write an explanation that justifies your ideas with reasons from the text and your worldly knowledge. A - I think a bongum looks similar to a ... P - I think this because in the text it says E - This reminds me of/I link this to

One of the key features of instruction writing is to use verbs and adverbs of manner. Remember a verb is an action word (jump, skip, pour, eat) and an adverb of manner tells you how a verb is performed (slowly, with caution, patiently).
In the ‘what you do’ section of the text, highlight all the verbs in one colour and the adverbs of manner in a different colour. Make sure you create a key.
Challenge - Can you write a verb for every letter of the alphabet? E.G. A - Announce, B - Beat, C - Collect etc.

For instructions to be successful, they must be very precise so that the reader can follow them. Look at the instructions for making an erupting volcano (we made these in school), they are very vague and wouldn’t be clear for the reader. Rewrite each step so that they are more precise - don’t worry about the correct quantities that would be needed to make the volcano erupt, you can make them up.
Challenge - Can you add suitable adverbs to these instructions? Make sure they are suitable - you wouldn’t pour quickly.

Write a set of instructions about ANYTHING - this could be making your bed, making a sandwich, brushing your teeth, playing a game - the possibilities are endless but make sure it’s something you know how to do yourself! Then, ask a family member to follow your instructions exactly as you have written them. Were they exact enough? Do you need to “fix” any parts? If you can, record your family member following the instructions so we can share the video on Class Dojo. Make sure you follow the structure of the WAGOLL (How to make tasty rewards for a bongum)

1 Number Fact practice.
Times table grid
Can you complete the times tables grid? Time how long it takes you.
2 Number Fact practice.
Related multiplications facts
We can use our times tables to solve related multiplication facts. E.g. 4 x 3 = 12 so 40 x 3 = 120 - 40 Is 10 times greater than 4 so the answer must be 10 times greater than 12 and 4 x 30 = 120 - 30 is 10 times greater than 3 so the answer must be 10 times greater than 12
Can you answer the questions using your known times tables?
3 Number Fact practice.
Using your knowledge of related multiplication facts, can you solve these problems?
4 Number Fact practice.
Use your knowledge of related number facts and partitioning, to multiply 2-digit numbers by 1-digit numbers questions
E.G. 24 x 5 = 20 x 5 = 100 4 x 5 = 20 100 + 20 = 120
5 Number Fact practice.
Use all your knowledge of multiplication, to solve the challenge problem. Show your working out.
Wider Curriculum Tasks
1 Knowledge Mat Challenge: Shelter: A house where Stone Age people would have lived. Build a Stone Age shelter for your family. Challenge:
Can everyone you live with fit inside? Is it watertight? Is there space for a fire pit outside?
2 Active Activity: In the Stone Age, there weren’t any cars, bikes, trains or trams. The only way to travel was on foot, which could often be for miles and miles. Spend a day living as a Stone Age person. Transport hasn’t been invented yet so the only way to get anywhere is to walk.
3 Life Skill: In the Stone Age, there was no electricity. People had to light fires to see, cook meals and keep warm. With an adult’s supervision, learn to light a fire outdoors or your BBQ (if you have one).
4 Well-being Activity: Write or draw 5 of your favourite memories that you have made whilst being at home since March.
5 Spelling Activity: Learn these statutory spelling. Your adult may want to test you at the end of the week

How to make tasty rewards for a bongum
Do you have a bongum that needs training? Do you want it to do tricks? It sounds like you need to give your bongum
an incentive. Read on to find out how to make some mouth-watering rewards that will have your bongum eating out of
the palm of your hand.
What you need:
two putrid, green fish heads
a can of sardines in brine
two cartons of milk
a teaspoon of warm butter that has been in the sun
a handful of brown, green or red smarties
a ceramic mixing bowl
a large, wooden hammer
a rolling pin
a robust, metal baking tray
small pastry cutters
What you do
First of all, place the fish heads into the bowl and vigorously beat them with a hammer until no bones, eyes or
scales are visible.
Next, add the sardines and mix briskly to form a smooth paste.
Then, pour in the milk gradually. Stir carefully or you might spill it.
After that, put the mixture into the fridge and leave for one hour. Grease the tray with the butter while the
mixture is cooling.
When the mixture is cold, take it out of the fridge and roll it out gently so that it is flat.
After that, use the pastry cutters to cut different shapes and put them on the tray.
Decorate with Smarties before the mixture has hardened.
Finally, give the treats to your bongum when its behaviour needs rewarding.
In a matter of hours you will see your bongum doing new and wonder tricks. What a happy bongum it will be!
