Virtue of the month is Forgiveness March 2, 2018 was the World Day of Prayer so I would like to share our prayer life at D’Arcy McGee Catholic School. We follow the same pattern each day thus finding comfort, security and solace in our established routines. Shortly after the morning bell the school population is brought to attention by the singing of O Canada. This is followed by a selected prayer or reflection. This can be a thought or an inspiration intended to set the tone for the day by helping us to act more like Jesus. Just before 11:15 a.m. a second hush signifies the reciting of Grace before Meals. The version of this prayer varies from class to class. Some classes say a simplified version and some say the more formal prayer. Then after the lunch re-entry, once again the students’ thoughts turn to God as they say Grace after Meals. At dismissal, with the final prayers of the day, the students seek God’s forgiveness for any wrongdoings and invoke His protection as they venture off home. It is a privilege to share in these repetitive rituals that seal us as a school community bound by a common faith. As we reflect on our school prayer-life let us be reminded that this is a vital and valued privilege. The virtue for the month of March is Forgiveness. All our words and actions should be guided by the Gospel values of human dignity, personal worth and mutual respect. While conflicts and misunderstandings are a part of life it is important that we follow Jesus’ request in Matthew‘s Gospel. When Peter asks, “How many times should I forgive my brother?” Jesus’ answer was clear. We must forgive seventy times seven times. Open and honest dialogue, a real feeling of empathy, and a genuine desire to forgive are some prerequisites necessary for true forgiveness. It is only after these conditions are embedded in our hearts that we are unanimously ready to proclaim…I will be kind and compassionate to everyone and forgive them just as God forgives me. Virtue of the month is Forgiveness

March 2, 2018 was the World Day of Prayer so I would like to share our

prayer life at D’Arcy McGee Catholic School. We follow the same

pattern each day thus finding comfort, security and solace in our

established routines. Shortly after the morning bell the school

population is brought to attention by the singing of O Canada. This is

followed by a selected prayer or reflection. This can be a thought or an

inspiration intended to set the tone for the day by helping us to act

more like Jesus.

Just before 11:15 a.m. a second hush signifies the reciting of Grace

before Meals. The version of this prayer varies from class to class.

Some classes say a simplified version and some say the more formal

prayer. Then after the lunch re-entry, once again the students’ thoughts

turn to God as they say Grace after Meals. At dismissal, with the final

prayers of the day, the students seek God’s forgiveness for any

wrongdoings and invoke His protection as they venture off home. It is a

Go D’Arcy McGee! Junior W5H 2018 Here at D’Arcy McGee! Once again, D'Arcy McGee hosted the North Division Junior W5H competition and our team competed for the divisional championship title with 4 visiting teams: St. Charles, St. Matthew, Regina Mundi and Sts. Cosmas and Damian.

Our wonderful Junior W5H team included Tiffany, Ruben, Nathanael, Nicholas, Andrew and Eric. After several close games, the winning team St. Charles was declared and all the students celebrated their success,

acknowledging each other's hard work and preparation with handshakes and smiles. Great sportsmanship D'Arcy McGee! It was wonderful to see so many young people so well prepared to compete in this general knowledge competition. Join us again next year for this exciting day!

Gentle Reminders Reporting your Child’s absence

If your child is absent for any reason, please call the school and either leave a message on the answering machine (after hours) or, call the school in the morning and speak to the secretary, Mrs. Fabiano. School Dress Code

The Toronto Catholic District School Board implemented an Appropriate Dress Code in all of its elementary schools in September 2011.The Appropriate Dress Code consists of any combination of white and navy blue garments (e.g. plain white top, navy blue bottom or, navy blue top and bottom, no denim. Please be reminded that at D’Arcy McGee this is the expectation as well. Some students are regularly coming to school out of uniform. It is expected that all students adhere to this board policy as it demonstrates respect and solidarity for all students. We thank you for your cooperation.

Driving Students to and from School

The safety of our students is our primary concern but we all need to do our part. This is a gentle reminder to parents who drive their children to and from school. The streets around our school get very congested and this compromises our students’ ability to be safe during morning drop off and evening pick up. Volunteers for 50th Anniversary and June BBQ

Come help us make our community celebrations a huge success. The adage, “Many hands make light work” is truer today than ever. Your hands are needed at these two separate events. If we all share the work then everything will be done quicker and with a greater sense of accomplishment. Please volunteer to help.

Guidance Corner – March At the end of February, students received their acceptance packages for high school. This month, grade 8 students are required to attend registration night, with their parent/guardian at their assigned high school. Please read over all documents and mark down the registration date. It is important that all forms are filled out correctly with the appropriate level chosen (i.e. locally developed, applied, academic).

This month our virtue is Forgiveness. Sometimes it can be hard to forgive others when they hurt you. Feelings of anger and negative thoughts come to mind however it is important to let those feelings go, forgive and move forward. When we don’t forgive others, or even ourselves, we can become bitter and angry. God forgives us every day for our mistakes so it is important for us to do the same. Please check the link below. It provides information and activities about forgiveness for kids.
