F March 2014 Volume 1 | Issue 12 Region 18 | Division 22 Hikina Leaving a Legacy Hello Division 22 Hikina, Wow... the year flew by, didn’t it? Congratulations on a successful and wonderful Key Club year. I hope you all were able to achieve your goals, and ready to leave your year’s legacy in your clubs and the division. This year has been filled with many fun and exciting events. Our first year as a division has been amazing. The realignment from one division into three has proved to be a great one. I hope you all are very proud of everything you have accomplished. I am extremely pleased with all of your efforts this year. We managed to meet many of our division goals along with increasing the size of the division. As this is a very exciting time of transition, please remember, that training is an important part of your job. You all have done such a wonderful job this year, and it is my hope that you share everything that you have learned this year with your elect. This way, the club can grow from where you ended. Thank you to our sponsoring Kiwanis Clubs for all of their support this year. Much of the division’s success would not have been possible without all of their hard work. Thank you so much to all of the advisors for their dedication and guidance this year. The division looks forward to working with all of you even more in the future. Returning members next year, I hope you have learned a lot this year, and are ready for a new year. I challenge you to take risks and set high goals. You are incredible, and are a team who is a force to be reckoned with. Seniors, we are almost there. Key Club will miss you next year; however, I encourage you to continue serving in your community whether it is in Circle K or through another organization. Please know that you have made both your club and division very proud this year. Thank you for all of your work and dedication. Please know that I believe in each and every one of you. I will always be a call or email again, please does no hesitate to contact me. I will always be available to help and serve you. It has been an honor serving you all as your Lieutenant Governor this year. I could not have asked for a better experience. You all have inspired me. Thank you for all that you do. I cannot wait to see the greatness that lies ahead for all of you. With all my service and love, Kathryn Teruya Division 22 Hikina Lieutenant Governor Contact Us! After HCON 2014, Farrington Key clubbers volunteered for the Great Aloha Run 2014 near Puuhale Elementary School. The volunteers had to wake up at five in the morning till nine to pass out water to the participating runners. In addition, after the event, the volunteers had to pick up the cups on the street. The volunteers truly enjoyed the experienced of getting soaked by the runners and the cool T-shirt they gave-out for the volunteers. BY: Jhon Malabed

On March 9, 13 of our members along with Division 22 Hikina, worked together with the Kiwanis to help fundraise money that will be used to send our advisers to next year’s HCON. We did this by having the Honolulu Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast. The members arrived at 5:30 in the morning and helped cook eggs, pancakes, and sausages. They packed and served it to the many people who bought pancake breakfast tickets. Some members also waved signs, manned the cash register, and served take-out. It was a great experience, which lasted for about five hours. The members served diligently and enjoyed this event. BY: Lily Ka

Featured Project At the Koko Head Elementary Pipe Cleaning on March 1st, four members from Kaiser Key Club gathered with other service groups including Boy Scouts to help students and parents clean the rain gutters. For approximately two hours, our members cleaned the pipes taking out dirt and leaf debris from the pipes to clear out the waterway. This was to eliminate the possible water damage from clogged gutters and to make sure that rainwater runoff is clean to prevent contamination. At first, cleaning the gutters seemed difficult and some volunteers found them disgusting, but it actually turned out to be a fun experience. Our members felt that servicing for little kids at the school was very rewarding and the feeling of accomplishment was definitely worth the time and effort. Next time we look forward to having more members participate in this project because it was a great opportunity to work with people who we usually do not get a chance to work with. BY: Ria Oba

Division Team Final Address

Hey Division 22 Hikina Manōs!!!

Thank you all for giving me the opportunity to serve you as your Division Assistant for this 2013-14 year. It has really been my pleasure to do service alongside many of you as well as meeting many new faces. This year really did fly by quickly, and another Key Club year is just about to start. Reflecting back on this golden year, every one of you had inspired me with your amazing spirit and passion for Key Club. You, Key Clubbers, are the reason why I wish to continue to serve this Division as your incoming Lieutenant Governor. I hope that you all will continue to have fun and enjoy your moments of service, while rendering unselfish service. Let us make it our responsibility in showing others that we care! A final thank you to my home club, Roosevelt Key Club, and my Kiwanis and advisors. You all are the keys to the golden treasure!

In service to D22H, Johnny Zhu Division Assistant

Hey Division 22 Hikina! I am so thankful for being able to serve all of you as your Division News Editor for this Key Club year. I am especially thankful for those who are reading this newsletter and any of my past newsletters. It is just great to have people support me and it makes my day to have people compliment and enjoy what I made. This experience has been quite rewarding, since I was able to meet such amazing people who are so passionate about Key Club. Being able to be part of an outstanding division team with Kat and Johnny Boy was fun and I would not have had it any other way. I was just glad I was able to make people happy. I’m going to miss everyone in Division 22 Hikina and I hope that everyone will have a great year next year whether it be in college or high school. I would just like to encourage people to put yourself out there because there are so many opportunities to grow, since this is Key Club and it is more than just service. So thank you all again for such an AMAZING year!!! Always Serving You, Ako Gagarin Division News Editor
