Hello Division 22 Hikina, I hope you all had a wonderful October and are ready for November! Time is flying, isn’t it? As this next month approaches, we will be busy with service, schoolwork, college applications, holiday shopping, and lots more. Don’t forget to spend time with family and friends. I hope you all enjoyed the Halloween dance at `Iolani that benefited Project Eliminate. I am so proud of you all for all of your work in saving lives from maternal neonatal tetanus. We are getting closer and closer to reaching our division goal of saving three lives each. Although these months are very busy, it is a perfect time to start or continue your portfolios for the January division submission. As half of the Key Club year is over and the first quarter of school is passing by, take time to reflect on your goals. Are you meeting your goals? What have you learned so far about yourself? What else would you like to accomplish this year? I believe that you can reach all of your goals! Thank you for your service this month. I am here to serve you, and I am always here to help you. Division Submissions Featured Project

This year, our key club is bringing the Christmas Season early to Kaiser High School. On the morning of September 28, thirty-two key clubbers came together to wrap shoeboxes, which will be filled by students and given to the staff of Operation Christmas Child to deliver to children in third world countries around the world. Everyone had a great time working together to wrap the shoeboxes and make Christmas. It was great to get into the Christmas spirit and know that we’ll be making a difference in lives of kids around the world. My favorite part of this event was seeing the 112 boxes that we wrapped and knowing that they will go to other kids around the globe. Early on a Sunday morning, Roosevelt’s Key Club showed up to the State Capitol for the annual Children & Youth Day. Many of our members arrived, eager to start working the rides and food booths we were assigned to. A few of our members switched out for different shifts to help out kids into the rides while some of our other members worked hard serving food to the large crowds. You could see our members extremely happy to be there, smiles on all of their faces. It was not only a fun event, but an event that allowed our members to mingle with some of the other clubs. All in all, Children and Youth day was a great event and we’re ecstatic to volunteer again next year. BY: Marleen Tana

Farrington key clubbers volunteered at Avalon Care Center again to bring joy to our elderly. We have made it a habit to have fun with the elderly through arts and crafts. On September 27, 2013, our key clubbers painted and decorated pots they made last August with the elderly. It was a great event! BY: Jhon Malabed

Kiwanis and the Eliminate Project With The Eliminate Project, Kiwanis International has partnered with UNICEF to eliminate maternal and neonatal tetanus. This is a deadly disease that steals the lives of nearly 60,000 innocent babies and a significant number of women each year. The effects of the disease are excruciating — tiny newborns suffer repeated, painful convulsions and extreme sensitivity to light and touch.

What do we need to do? To eliminate MNT from the Earth, more than 100 million mothers and their future babies must be immunized. This requires vaccines, syringes, safe storage, transportation, thousands of skilled staff and more. It will take US$110 million — and the dedicated work of UNICEF and every member of the Kiwanis family.

The end of this one disease means the beginning of better

health for so many families.

GOOD NEWS! Maternal Neonatal Tetanus has just been ELIMINATED from Gabon and Sierra Leone MNT has been eliminated from 33 countries leaving 26 more countries to go! !OUR GOAL: Division 22 Hikina contributes $3,024 to Project Eliminate allowing each member to save 3 lives from MNT!
