Construction Grammar Reading Group

What is it?

CxG is a relatively new and developing approach to the study

of language that focuses on the notion of ´constructions,µ or

pairings of form and meaning. So what qualifies as a

construction? Interestingly, this term is applied at all levels

of linguistic inquiry, encompassing everything from

morphemes to words, all the way up to abstract syntagmatic

frames. Comprehensive and amenable to many other

burgeoning disciplines (corpus work, language acquisition,

cognitive science), this method has an exceedingly powerful

explanatory potential.

When is it?

We will be meeting bi-weekly (with some adjustments)

beginning Friday, September 10th.

Where is it?

LANG 410 (4th

floor conference room)
