(2) ARTD-45B (Multimedia II: Intermediate Web Design and Animation) pg. 19-20 3 units: 2 hours lecture, 3 hours lab. Prerequisite: ARTD-45A Advisory: AOM-50A; ENGL-85 Courses Related in Content: Graphic Design

This studio course further imparts a thorough intermediate-level approach to creative Adobe Flash digital media production for the web. Indispensable intermediate typographic, color, illustration, animation, interactivity, layout, and sound design concepts feature strongly in the class. The course's interactive Flash and new HTML 5 web technology techniques prepare students for producing imaginative web sites and multimedia projects.

Luis Flores inquired on if the courses at CSU Long Beach were lower division. Diane Spork confirmed that the courses at CSU Long Beach numbered 100’s are freshman level, while courses numbered 200’s are sophomore level.

Julie Clark inquired on what ARTD-42A and 45A would be at these same institutions. Julie restated her question, how do we know these are the second courses on these topics.

11. BUSINESS 3 A. Discussion: English Curriculum Changes

Denise Rempel stated she had no new information. Denise Inquired on the 5 day limit for reviewing courses on CurricUNET.

Julie Clark stated that it is actually 7 working days, the 5 days is so they get a reminder the course is still in their queue. Julie went on to explain that that policy has never been enforced. Julie went explained that this is not just impacting English but many other courses and programs are in various queues that need to be addressed and moved forward.

Dee Near urged reviewers to please review items in their queue in a timely manner.

B. Information: Curriculum Chairperson Third Term Exception Senate Resolution Julie Clark stated that this resolution will be going for its second reading on

November 12th. Dee Near asked if this resolution is giving Julie Clark a third term or allowing her to

put her name on the ballot in December. Julie Clark stated that it would just allow herself to be on the ballot and does not guarantee her a third term.

Julie Clark stated she added another “Whereas” to reflect the meeting her and others had on October 30th with the Institutional Effectiveness Partnership Initiative (IEPI) team. The IEPI members stressed the importance of sustainable mid-level management and the importance of Leading from the Middle. Julie also stated that she spoke with the team members between meetings regarding term limits and they stated at their colleges the Curriculum Chair has no term limit, due to the depth of knowledge needed for this position.

Dee Near inquired on if we should use the word “managers” since we cannot take action on people and suggested changing that to “leaders”.

Denise Rempel commented that the addition of the “whereas” seems to undermine the idea that anyone who served on the committee is capable of doing the job while the rest of wording of the resolution accepts it and asked if this is what is supposed to happen.

Jodie Steeley stated that this position includes a lot of expertise in topics that we are not all educated in. Jodie went on to explain that the other senate resolution will allow someone to follow the Curriculum Chair for a year, which will help them learn the complexity of theses topics.

Sue Norris agreed with Jodie and stated that she has been a Curriculum Representative for three years and feels she is not qualified.

A.S.-T. – Agriculture Plant Science

New Proposed Degree The Agriculture Plant Science curriculum is designed to meet the lower division requirements of most universities offering a major in Agriculture Plant Science. Students that complete an AS-T in Agriculture Plant Science from Merced College will be prepared for upper division course work in Agriculture Plant Science at a California State University. The Associate in Science in Plant Science for Transfer degree is designed for students looking to obtain a well-rounded education in Plant Science. Upon completion, students with an AS-T in Plant Science will be eligible to transfer with junior standing into an equivalent major within the CA State University (CSU) system. Students will be given priority consideration when applying to a particular program that is similar to the student's community college area of emphasis. For an Associate in Science in Agriculture Plant Science for Transfer (AS-T), students must complete the following: (1) 60 semester CSU-transferable units. (2) the California State University-General Education-Breadth pattern (CSU GE-Breadth); OR the Intersegmental General Education Transfer
