glenohumeral osteoarthritis is challenging. In case of failure of conservative therapy, surgical treat-ment must be considered. The concerns about shoulder arthroplasty in the young population are mainly due to the higher demands on the operated shoulder, the higher expectations regarding the surgical result, and the longevity of the prosthetic shoulder due to increased life expectancy. We will report the results of a multicenter study including more than 1500 young patients operated on with a shoulder arthroplasty for glenohumeral arthritis; all patients have been reviewed and radiographied with 2 to 20 years follow up. We also have invited colleagues and friends from different continents to report their surgical experience in this difficult field. We hope that the material presented here will help surgeons to better understand and resolve the difficult problem of glenohumeral arthritis in younger patients.

Dear Colleagues and Friends,It is our privilege to welcome you to Nice and to the Nice Shoulder Course 2018. The success of the previous Nice Shoulder Courses prompts us to continue with this ninth edition. Our goal is to present the current concepts in shoulder pathology from a basic science, clinical and practical approach. This year we will have a full day dedicated to: “Shoulder Arthroplasty in the Young Ar-thritic Shoulder”. Finding the right treatment for a young patient (< 60 years) presenting

OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSEBy the end of the course, surgeons will be able to:

• Understand the various techniques for rotator cuff repair, including double/single row, transosseous anchorless repair, partial repairs, and use of growth factors and graft aug-mentation.• Address the options for the treatment of massive rotator cuff tears including tendon transfers, with or without reverse shoulder arthroplasty.• Develop strategies for the treatment of shoulder instability including: labral repairs, tendon transfers for humeral bone loss, bone graft procedures, and coracoid transfer (Latarjet- procedure) for glenoid bone loss.• Understand physio-pathology and various approaches for the treatment of Proximal Humerus Fractures including: conservative treatment, ORIF, hemiarthroplasty and reverse shoulder arthroplasty with reconstruction of the tuberosities.• Understand shoulder injuries including acromio-clavicular dislocations.• Understand and apply current concepts for shoulder arthroplasty.• Understand the postoperative complications and outcomes following anatomic and reverse shoulder arthroplasty.• Understand and develop strategies for revising loose or failed shoulder arthroplasties.• Apply innovative methods of assessment and management of various shoulder disor-ders.

COURSE DESCRIPTIONThis three-day shoulder course covers arthroscopic and arthroplasty surgery and treat-ment of fractures. The program includes lectures by leading shoulder surgeons, knot-tying workshops, ultra-sound workshops, case presentations, interactive discussions with expert opinions and audience voting, live surgery sessions, and workshops with cadavers or plas-tic models. A whole day will be dedicated to reverse shoulder arthroplasty. Participation at the course will give 18 points of CME credit.

AFTERNOON WORKSHOPS The faculty members will guide participants through the techniques of arthroscopic shoul-der procedures, shoulder replacement procedures and the treatment of fractures.

Workshops on Shoulder Models & Saw-bones Shoulder Arthroscopy & Arthroplasty : Thursday & Friday afternoon. Different surgical tech-niques and instruments will be shown by experts. Arthroscopic and surgical equipment from manufacturers will be available.

Knot-Tying Workshop: Surgeons will learn how to perform arthroscopic sliding and loc-king knots, including the «Nice Knot».

Fracture Workshops: 1/ Surgeons will learn how to perform osteosutures with the «Nice Knot» around a hemi, a reverse arthroplasty or a nail.2/ Surgeons will learn how to perform intramedullary nailing of proximal humerus fractures

Ultrasound Workshop: Surgeons will learn a step-by-step approach to perform ultrasound examination of the shoulder.

Preoperative Planning Software Workshop: Surgeons will learn how to perform preopera-tive planning in just a few minutes due to the simple and intuitive interface, developed in close collaboration with top surgeons in the field.

LIVE SURGERYFour Live Surgery procedures (arthroscopy & arthroplasty) will be performed Thursday and Friday afternoon and transmitted to the Hotel Palais de la Méditerranée.

OPTIONAL ANATOMICAL WSAnatomical Lab / Medical University of NiceShoulder Arthroscopy : Thursday afternoon Shoulder Arthroplasty : Friday afternoonThe cadaver workshops are limited in availability and paid separately. There will be two or three participants for each shoulder.

SUGGESTIONS FOR ACCOMPANYING PERSON’S PROGRAM

Boat trips: Enjoying the sea as a means of transportation or as a place for excursions. For a few hours or for a day, far from the hustle and bustle of the city, discover an unmistakable blend of sere-nity and wild nature.

Museums: Nice offers more than fifteen museums (municipal, de-partmental and national). By the number of museums and the richness of its collections, Nice offers its visitors an ex-ceptional collection through a universal museum route. http://en.nicetourisme.com/Museums

Towns and villages : On a day outing from Nice, the not to be missed Villefranche sur mer, Cannes and Monaco are just a short journey away . However its also worth taking time to disco-ver lesser-known treasures such as small fishing ports, perched villages, natural parks.
