Cubmaster or Den Leader:
Let’s open our meeting today by all of saying the Scout Oath.
We’re going to make the Cub Scout sign and then I’ll say a few words and then
you say them back to me.
On my honor I will do my best
[Let Cub Scouts repeat]
To do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law;
[Let Cub Scouts repeat]
To help other people at all times;
[Let Cub Scouts repeat]
To keep myself physically strong, mentally away and morally straight.
[Let Cub Scouts repeat]
Cubmaster: That’s wonderful. Let’s do it again. [Repeat the Scout Oath]
We will be saying this almost every week and we will talk about what the words
mean. We will do our best to learn the Scout Oath.
Let’s now say the Pledge of Allegiance to start off our fun today.
Hero Masks
Materials:
Copied mask onto cardstock – 1 for each Cub
Scout
Scissors
Markers/Crayons
Yarn – 20-24” per Cub Scout
Hole punch
Clear tape (reinforcing punched holes)
Instructions:
1. Color and decorate mask.
2. Carefully cut out each mask. The eyes may be a little tricky.
3. Put a piece of clear tape over where the hole for the yarn will be punched.
4. Punch the holes for the yarn.
5. Cut the yarn in half – make 2 10-12” pieces of yarn.
6. Tie the yarn pieces to both sides of the mask.
7. Put the mask on and tie in place at the back of your head (you might need
some help tying it).
Trusty Tommy (sung to the tune of Yankee Doodle)
Trusty Tommy was a Scout
Loyal to his mother
Helpful to the friends about, and
Friendly to his brother
Courteous to all about
Kind unto the rabbits
Obedient to his father, too, and
Cheerful in his habits -
Thrifty saving for a need
Brave, and not a faker -
Clean in thought and word and deed, and
Reverent to his Maker.
Cub Scouts need to learn the Scout Law – and a song is fun way to learn it. The
only word that isn’t exactly the same in the Scout Law is “Trusty.” In the Scout
Law instead of “Trusty” we use the word “Trustworthy.”
If you are not familiar with the tune of “Yankee Doodle,” you can find a recording
of the song being sung at http://freekidsmusic.com/traditional-childrens-
songs/yankee-doodle/
