CLCC Family

“I’m pickin’ up good vibrations / She’s giving me excitations”. In 1966, thisBeach Boys song hit the charts and cemented that California vibe like noone else. And they are still out there touring, still singing that song. Thoseguys are MY age but the crowds who pay to see them range from teens toseniors. Just goes to show you that a good product, well presented, withrespect toward the audience, never goes out of style. It strikes me that ahealthy percentage of our Membership was not even born in 1966!

Our facility is in the process of a transformation that I believe will givethe entire Membership “excitations”. The Patio Expansion is in progress. When finished you will all enjoy a gorgeous, upscale addition to our foodand beverage operation, while enjoying fresh air and a colorfulenvironment. The Main Bar Expansion into the existing Screen Porchwill be started right after January 1st, with completion in time for theClub opening in February. The New Poolside Screen Porch will becompleted in time for the Pool Opening in May 2017. This entire projectwill enhance the “Member Experience” in a significant manner, andthat is the main goal of your Board of Directors.

Much has been accomplished in the last two years. I am excited aboutour 2017 and beyond! Membership Levels are up, and our new andimproved facility will heavily contribute to that. I envision those summernights listening to music on the Patio, enjoying excellent food, finespirits, and great friends. Yes indeed, I will absolutely be “pickin’ upgood vibrations”!

President’s Message

Fellow Members:

The year is slowly winding down; however the weather is being kind to us.Tennis and Golf are still in full swing (ha ha) and just being outside is awonderful experience.

The excitement within our membership is growing and CLCC will gain as aresult. Our yearlong promotion has already gained momentum as we haveseveral current members looking to introduce new members to our club.

It’s been proven time and time again, that our best way to attract newmembers is through word of mouth. Who knows this club better than themembers?, so let’s make that effort and show a friend, neighbor or familymember what we already know; CLCC is the best club in McHenry.

Thank you for your support

Grounds & Greens

Course Update

Our fall grounds season is normallyas busy as our spring season. Butthis year’s fall maintenance was ourbusiest season in terms of workload. A complete aeriation coupledwith two large course enhancementprojects that included theconstruction of the stone wallaround 6th green side pond and thereroute of the 18th fairway has keptSteve and his crew working longhours. But all of this has been donewithout interruption of memberplay. A testament to Steve and hiscrew; way to go guys!

Final, Final

Last year the BOD proposed, issuedand through member vote, passed aresolution that shifted the CLCCcalendar year to start on Nov 1 andrun through to Oct 31. This wasdone to help committee’s betterplan and prepare for “the nextyear”. So with that said, it looks asthough my tenure as Greens Chairhas come to an end. With the rapidand ever evolving shifts in socialmores, sometimes I think we heapon to much positive or negativeshyperbole in our world. I believe itcamouflages the true and mostdeserving heroes. But in this case, Ijust can’t resist. I want to take ourlast opportunity here in thenewsletter to talk about two finegentlemen; two people that havedone extraordinary work on behalfof Crystal Lake Country Club.

Bob Lohmann is a renown andaward winning golf course architect.Lohmann Golf Designs has designedmany courses from the ground up aswell as done many redesigns ofexisting courses. And we are nottalking Pat’s Par Three here. We are

talking about some of the mostprestigious courses around ourcountry. And lucky for us, he is afellow member here at CLCC. Bobhas lent his services to CLCC indesign, equipment, personnel andmaterial, not to mention a hugeamount of time. Without Mr.Lohmann’s generosity and donationto this membership, some of theproject we have recently completed(and many other projects datingback to the mid 1980’s) would nothave been possible. Bob, thank you!We are truly indebted to you.

And finally a special thanks to myfriend Steve Van Acker. Manymonths ago we had an opportunityto write about and encourage ourmembership to participate in clubactivities that included committeevolunteerism and even becoming adirector on our board. There aremany obvious positives that you getout of becoming engaged here atCLCC, but I also spoke about theunexpected personal developmentone receives. Out of a long list ofthose unexpected benefits toparticipation for me was thepleasure to watch our HeadSuperintendent at work. The levelof craftsmanship, dedication andcomplete commitment into makingour golf course and grounds thevery best it can be has been ajourney of inspiration. I wish Icould craft the words to describejust how valuable Steve is to ouroperation. But since I cannot, I willsimply say thank you to a job donewith excellence!

Thank you to all who havecommented and helps us on theGreens Committee in 2016.

Dave [email protected] Chairman
