FROM THE PRINCIPALS’ DESK
At Crystal Creek Public School everyone has the right to feel safe and respected. This includes all staff, students, parents and visitors. To ensure our learning environments are collaborative, respectful and cohesive, The Department of Education’s School Community Charter outlines the responsibilities of parents, carers, educators and school staff in NSW Public Schools. Respectful communication is a right for everyone. We all have a part to play in creating a safe, respectful and harmonious learning environment.
If parents have an issue or concern that they would like to raise, please ensure it is done through the correct channels. For most issues, the first step is to make contact with your child’s teacher to arrange a meeting. Once this occurs, it will then be decided if I need to be involved. You will find the Community Charter document attached to the newsletter. Your support with this is greatly appreciated.
Mrs McMahon

Thank you to the SRC and Mrs McRae for all your organisation.

2019 PREMIER’S SPELLING BEE
We are calling all Crystal Creek super spellers! This year, we will be entering students from our school in the 2019 Premier’s Spelling Bee.
The Premier’s Spelling Bee was introduced in 2004 as a fun and educational way for primary school students to engage in spelling. The program includes activities to encourage all students to improve their vocabulary and spelling and to promote literacy skills in combination with the English K-6 Syllabus (The Arts Unit, NSW DEC).
Entries for the competition open on Tuesday 30
th April, 2019 (Term 2, Week 1). In the first
few weeks of Term 2, teachers will give students the opportunity to enter the competition. Students will then be given list words to practice at home. If your child would like to participate in the Spelling Bee, please let your class teacher/s know. More information about the Spelling Bee will be sent out early next term.
If you or your child would like to find out more about the Premier’s Spelling Bee, please go to the following website: https://www.artsunit.nsw.edu.au/premiers-spelling-bee
If you have any questions regarding this competition or would like to discuss your child’s involvement, please see Miss Purkiss.
In Term 1, Week 8 Mrs McRae, Mrs Dawney and Miss Purkiss were extremely fortunate to go to Melbourne for the National FutureSchools Expo and Conference.
The teachers spent two full days listening to over 100 world class speakers in various fields, attending interactive workshops, conversing about current best practice at the round table discussions and looking at innovative whole-
school programs at the expo.
During their time in Melbourne the staff looked at what we are currently implementing at Crystal Creek Public School. Some of the things were are already proudly implementing are:
Flexible furniture and learning spaces
STEM or STEAM activities
Brain-Based Learning e.g. Growth Mindset
Project Based Learning e.g. Koala Conservation
The three teachers created a presentation about what they learned and have shared this with the whole staff at Crystal Creek.
They have also been asked to present at a Staff Development Day during the year for another community of schools in the Far North Coast area.
There are lots of inspirational programs and initiatives that we would like to implement within our school over the year. We look forward to sharing this with you at a parent information evening next term.
Future-focussed teaching and learning is one of our strategic directions within our School Plan 2018-2020.
We would once again like to thank Mr Stephens from Dungay for obtaining the funds and enabling us to go to the conference.
If you would like any more information regarding the conference or future-focussed learning in general, please see Miss Purkiss.
