First allow us to thank you for your continued support. You patronage continues to make us one of the major Bernina dealers in the US. Bernina continues to support us with new and innovative products, such as the E16 Embroidery System and the soon to be released Bernina Long Arm Quilting System. We will also soon receive Bernina’s new Red Swiss Edition of the popular 530. It’s a wonderful machine and the new look is impressive. There are even more cool things to come.

The fall is always a busy time at the Berry Patch. New classes along with fall sales and events keep us moving. We will participate in the Original Sewing and Quilt Expo, October 16-18th, just as we did last year. There are lots of vendors and classes and we hope to see you there. Bernina products are sold thru independent dealers. We each function in our own way, but to standards defined by Bernina. Each dealer sets the pricing structure of the products with

some exceptions that are established by Bernina. Warranty and classes are provided by the dealer, so it is important to choose the right dealer for your purchase. It does matter where you purchase your Bernina.

The Berry Patch offers a wide variety of class subjects, taught by skilled instructors. We try to have something for everyone from children to the most skilled sewer. With the exception of our Bernina machine training classes, the owners of all brands of machines are welcome in our classes and clubs.

Sometimes the subject matter in our Clubs is specific to a Bernina accessory, but the techniques shown and discussed usually apply to a wider variety of machine brands. We encourage owners of all brands to give our classes a try. Please be our guest for your first visit to our clubs. You will have a great time while learning some valuable sewing skills.

Join us for our Software Club that meets on the second Tuesday of each month. Our Artista V7 Software is fully functional with all machine formats. Many prefer the Bernina Software to the software offered by their brand machine. Our software is available at two levels; EditorPlus and DesignerPlus. There is a price point that will meet your needs. Of course, there is also an upgrade package for owners of a previous version. Training classes are available and Software Club adds something extra each month.

Finally, most everything we have on the schedule and more is available on a personal basis. One-on-One classes are very popular and provide the additional training or problem solving needed.

BP CluB NEwSYou do not have to be a Bernina owner to participate. Join us for a lecture-demo of a new sewing technique or a new pattern or product. There are refreshments and show-and-share as well as a few door prizes for some lucky attendees! Come for fun and fellowship! Fee: $5 and receive a 15% discount on your purchase that day

Shirley's Recipe CornerWhile fresh corn is still available, try this Barefoot Contessa recipe.

It's delicious!

Fresh Corn Salad5 ears corn, shucked

1/2 cup small-diced red onion3 T. cider vinegar

3 T. olive oil1/2 tsp. kosher salt

1/2 tsp. black pepper1/2 cup chiffonade fresh basil leaves

In large pot of boiling salted water, cook the corn for 3 minutes. drain and immerse in ice water to stop the cooking and set the color. When the corn is cooled, cut the kernels off the cob cutting close to the cob.

Toss the corn in a large bowl with the red onions, vinegar, olive oil, salt and pepper. Just before serving, toss in the fresh basil. Serve cold or at room temperature. Serves 4-6.

This is a good fall recipe that I recently made and it received a thumbs up.

Jalapeño Popper Chicken6 skinless, boneless chicken breasts

For the jalapeño popper topping:3 slices bacon, diced

2 jalapeños, deveined, deseeded, and diced1/4 cup diced onion

1 (8-ounce) package cream cheese, softened1/2 cup mayo or Greek yogurt

1 cup shredded cheddar cheese1/2 cup shredded Parmesan cheese

For the topping:1/2 cup crushed butter crackers (1/2 sleeve)

1/2 cup Parmesan cheese4 T. Butter, melted

1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Place chicken breasts in a small casserole dish and bake until juices run clear when pricked, about 45 minutes.

2. While chicken is baking, prepare jalapeño popper topping. Add bacon, jalapeños, and onions to a small skillet and fry until bacon is crispy and jalapeños and onions are tender. Remove from heat and add to a small bowl. Add cream cheese, mayo or yogurt, and cheeses to cream together with bacon mixture until well-combined.

3. Remove chicken from oven and reduce heat to 350 degrees. Spread jalapeño topping on top of chicken until well-covered.

4. For topping, mix together crushed crackers, cheese, and melted butter. Sprinkle on top of jalapeño popper topped chicken. Bake until crack-ers are lightly browned, about 15 minutes. Serves 6-8.

How to Chiffonade Fresh Basil Leaves• Stack the basil leaves on top of each other so

the top of the leaf is down and the underside is facing up, so the leaves cup each other.

• Gently roll the leaves into a cigar. Hold the roll closed against the cutting board with your fingers curved.

• Starting at one end, thinly slice the roll crosswise to create thin ribbons. Continue slicing until the entire roll has been sliced into thin ribbons.

Many classes have kits that are required and we have tried to keep their expense to a minimum. Many classes do not require a kit, but do require supplies. We ask that you purchase the class supplies from the Berry Patch. This is the only way we can maintain low class fees. Our classes are presented for the individual use of those attending. If you teach somewhere else or plan to do so, please let us know. We have different class fees when we train teachers. Most classes fill quickly, so we suggest you register early to reserve your spot! Whenever there is a question about you participating in a class, don’t hesitate to discuss it with us. We try to accommodate everyone if possible.

This symbol represents classes that require you bring your sewing machine.

This symbol represents classes that specialize in handwork.

SKill lEvEl iSome sewing experience will be helpful. Basic use of your sewing machine may be required. Some Skill Level I classes are true beginner’s classes and you start from the very beginning.

SKill lEvEl iiThese are not basic sewing classes, so you will need a background...perhaps the basic classes or experience in other areas of sewing. When machines are required, you should be familiar with the functions of your specific model of machine. We believe that our class schedule is an important part of the service we provide. Our teachers and staff work hard to provide quality training in many areas and we appreciate your participation. We ask that you sign up for the classes you wish to take as soon as you decide, rather than wait to see if the class makes with the minimum three students. This will help us with scheduling. Finally, we ask that you call us if you have signed up and paid for a class, but are unable to attend. If you call us three days before the class date, we will be happy to refund your fee. This happens often and the class space is unused. Many of the classes have a waiting list of students that would like to attend. Thanks for your understanding!
