It is my honor to welcome you to The Historic Wayne Theatre / Ross Performing Arts Center!

Thank you for supporting the Wayne Theatre. We are excited to be entering our third year of programming. Together we are CeleBratinG the theatre successes, eleVatinG the awareness of what the theatre has to offer for all ages and aCtiVatinG our organization to reach its goals of increased Partner in the Arts members and sponsorships for programming.

Thus far, we have had patrons from 33 states and numerous countries. We are the first theatre experience for many students, and to date, more than 14,000 students have come through our doors for an Arts Education program. Our Arts Education Program offers performances for Pre-K through adults and encourages our community to be life-long learners.

This season is exciting as we celebrate many cultures through music and bring hot topics of discussion to the table through our Film and Signature Speaker events. Our Broadway musical productions are a highlight featuring local and regional talent with our cast and crew. The Exhibit Gallery is a special component to our facility that has a themed and curated art show rotating every three months.

We encourage you to spread the word of what a treasure we have in downtown Waynesboro, Virginia. Please join me in thanking our Board of Directors, hard-working staff, and our dedicated Ambassadors; the wonderful volunteers who work the events and serve on committees and our board.

The Wayne Theatre opened on January 18, 1926. The Valley Virginian reported that the six-month construction period had resulted in a 625 seat auditorium. The fashionable interior was decorated by the Richmond firm of Jones and Davis. The color scheme was ivory, old rose and blue with textured wall and decorative plaster borders. A number of bronze chandeliers were suspended from the ceiling and dimmed by what the paper called “the most up-to-date lighting system possible.” The system was built by Lee Lash Studios of New York City.

A major feature of the Wayne Theatre was the Arthur Jordan Orchestra Pipe Organ, which was touted as the “largest and most expensive in the state” and cost $10,000. The console was located in the small orchestra pit at the front of the stage with its pipes concealed in the auditorium ceiling and walls. It provided music for the silent films, aided by a small orchestra.

In 1929, the Wayne followed the lead of the Dixie Theatre in Staunton and installed a “talking machine” by RCA.

A fire on June 2, 1980 created the opportunity to again alter the interior of the Wayne. The auditorium was divided in half with the first screen placed at approximately the same location as the original vaudeville stage. The second screening room was at the end of the 1949 expansion. The creation of a movie duplex gave the Wayne a few years of profitability, but by 1999 the theatre was no longer a viable business venture. The owner closed the Wayne and deeded the structure to the city of Waynesboro.

Explore the wonders of the solar system by traveling at the “speed of thought” in this interactive performance that takes young audiences on a virtual tour across the universe. The live show challenges young minds while inspiring STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics).

Sugar Skull is a colorful, musical family adventure that celebrates the rich traditions of Día de los Muertos, and the vibrant heart of Mexican culture. This is the experience that will change your students’ perception of the country, its people, and its cultural practices.

A loving story of the friendship between a pig named Wilbur and a little gray spider named Charlotte. Wilbur has a problem: how to avoid winding up as pork chops! Charlotte, a fine writer and true friend, hits on a plan to fool Farmer Zuckerman she will create a “miracle.”

The Christmas Elves are confused that Santa sent them to a shoe shop. The Shoemakers are confused about what they saw. But all is well in this delightful, magical story of the poor Shoemakers and the magical elves who show them the true meaning of Christmas!

The Rainbow Fish tells the story of the most beautiful fish in the sea, whose scales shimmer in all the colors of the rainbow. He is admired by the entire underwater world, and the other fish dream of owning one of his magnificent scales. Following the advice of a clever octopus, he gives each fish one of his scales. The more he shares, the happier he becomes.

The triple-bill includes the wonderful story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar’s metamorphosis into a beautiful butterfly; the fanciful account of Little Cloud’s travels through the sky, and the Mixed-Up Chameleon’s discovery of his own unique nature.

Everyone’s favorite cat comes to mischievous life in this theatrical adaptation of the Dr. Seuss classic. From the moment his tall, red-and-white-striped hat appears around the door, Sally and her brother know that The Cat in the Hat is the funniest, most mischievous cat they have ever met.

This dramatic play with music tells the heroic story of the brave soldiers of the 9th and 10th Cavalries. Trooper Jones Morgan served in Cuba and was one of the many Buffalo Soldiers at the Battle of San Juan Hill.

Lightwire Theater brings a classic tale to the modern stage in an unforgettable theatrical experience. Lined with electroluminescent wire, the beloved story of The Ugly Duckling plays out on stage through a cutting-edge blend of puppetry, technology and dance.

Amos McGee is as kindly and conscientious a zookeeper as you will find. He demonstrates the perfect way to bond with each of his friends. When one day Amos himself feels under the weather and must remain home in his bed, the animals must decide together what they can do to return the favor.

Join young Mowgli as he learns the “laws” of the jungle in this time-honored adventure. With the help of friends like the black panther, Bagheera, and Baloo the lovable bear, Mowgli learns about friendship and survival. Cheer as Mowgli faces his fear and foils his nemesis the tiger Shere Khan.

HelPFul SuggeSTIonIt is recommended that you purchase tickets in advance to secure better seating for reserved seating events. Advance purchase of tickets will also insure that you will not have to wait in line at the box office and potentially miss the start of the event you are attending.

ConvenIenCe FeeSThere are minimal convenience fees added to the purchase of tickets when tickets are purchased online or over the phone. These fees are incorporated by our ticketing software. Tickets purchased in person at the Wayne Theatre box office do not incur any fees.

ReFundS/eXCHAngeSAll sales are final. No requests for cancellations or refunds are accepted. In the event that a performance is either cancelled or postponed, the Wayne Theatre will make every effort to contact patrons via e-mail, time permitting. If a performance is playing multiple nights and tickets are still available, we can exchange tickets for the same performance on a different night. Ticket exchanges are $5.00 per order. Refunds on tickets purchased are made ONLY when the artist cancels or postpones an event.

InCleMenT WeATHeR PolICYThe show is on unless the artist cancels. If the Wayne is required to reschedule the show, tickets to the new date will be issued to those who purchased tickets. If you are unable to attend the new date, a credit will be applied to your account with us to use on a future show.

geneRAl AdMISSIonGeneral admission events mean that the seats are not reserved and seating is based on a first come, first served basis.

ReSeRved SeATIngReserved seating events mean that a specific seat(s) is assigned at the time of your ticket purchase.

CAMeRASVideo cameras, monopods, tripods, audio recording devices and cameras with telephoto or zoom lenses, including SLR’s, are not permitted for most events at the Wayne Theatre. For each event this decision is made by the producer or promoter typically because of strict copyright laws and/or for the safety of performers. This policy will be strictly enforced. Please check with the box office to see what is allowed for any specific event.

AdA SeRvICeS• The theatre provides seating for persons that require ADA

seating, with companion seating if necessary. Any patrons requiring special assistance should contact the box office in advance to make arrangements.

• The first and second floor bathrooms are ADA accessible.

• ADA seating is located on the first floor and second floor balcony.

• The parking lot entrance on the left side of the marquee may be used for drop-off and pick-up.

• Handicapped parking spaces are available in the parking lot directly adjacent to the theatre.

ReSAle TICKeTSThe Wayne Theatre can only provide customer care and service for tickets purchased through the Wayne Theatre box office. Tickets that have been purchased via resale cannot be guaranteed.

WIll CAllIf your tickets are to be “held at will call”, they will be at the Box Office at the time of the performance. The box office is open 1 hour before an event, for your convenience and early pick up. You MUST have a photo ID or the credit card you used to purchase the tickets in order to obtain them.
