conventions and how do they represent socialgroups or issues

My films predominantgenre is drama. While thefilm remains true to the

conventions of the dramacategory it is subtle inapproach that makes it ablend of both drama and

comedy; therefore itchallenges the conventionsin that area.

How the film has been true to conventions:

Exhibits real life situation with realistic characters,

settings and stories. My film portrays a relationship primarily between astudent and a teacher which is very common toeveryday life. The struggle of coping with a teachersset of rules and demands and the strenuous activitythat the teacher administers is common and createssubstance for the relationship thus making it a trueto the drama genre. The TV eries !"lee# season $has a very similar story line from which % wasinspired. & sassy dance teacher and a strugglingstudent. %t is common to find a teacher that is strictand has a very bold attitude that is very pushing andaggressive. "lee#s teacher played by 'ate Hudson

develops a very distinct(snoby sarcastic and veryassertive( approach. %t portrays a )ourney of real lifebecause it shows a very common relationship and itsrelatable. *eal life situations are something that theaudience can easily emphasi+e with. My film keepsthis convention by showing a teacher studentrelationship, something everyone can agree with (a

tough teacher and a struggling student.

'ostumeThe costumes in a drama conventional film are verymeaningful because they depict the scene andsituation which is the core of the film. The teachers

costume is inspired by (ate Hudson from glee. Thedark colours match well with the attitude that theteacher has. The hair is kept soft and rela)ed withvolume to match the personality. The makeup is keptnatural e)cept a pop of colour on the lips for mycharacter because ! felt its a lot forgiving than a heavyeye shadow look. The fitting works well with herprofession and gives of a classy yet contemporary look.

How the film is untrue to conventions:

'omedy /ramaThe film was a comedy drama which is an alternative and achallenge to the traditional convention of a drama film. The filmlacks an intensity of conflict . The pain depiction of hardshipand difficulty is portrayed very subtly which is how ! havechallenged the convection. The film although is a drama but

the contrast between the student and teacher is light heartedan leaves room for comedy and a happy ending. /ramatic filmsthat often have a strong conflict between the protagonist andantagonist is not included in my film. ilms like brave heart and

the kings speech are such e)amples. My film resembles filmssuch as 0 a serious man which was a comedy drama the filmbroke the convention by playing what happens to harrydifferently than that of what the audience would have guessed.

TechnicalitiesMy film& transitions well with a upbeat music and

some creative shots. However it does not use e)tremeclose ups or drag scenes where the mood is analysedby the audience. The film is %uick and perky and verysimple using %uick cuts that are smooth. My filmmakes use of a certain social class and ethnic race

which is challenging the convention. The mood musicdoesnt not change and the film maintains itsunconventional look& by deleting attention to details.
