SPECIAL NOTES!!!!1. GHC CONCERT TICKETS

Our June concert tickets are available on our web site and at all choir nights from now until concert time. Tickets are $25 regular and $20 for seniors, students and the unwaged. When you purchase them at choir please make it easy on the ticket sellers by working out in advance which of the concerts you want tickets for, how many of each type you need and their total cost. Please make cheques payable to The Caia Connection which is the umbrella organization for all the projects we support in Mozambique.

2. GHC CONCERT POSTERS

There are still some full sized ones left. Please pick-up a couple or three to put up in high profile places. Just look for spaces and places already displaying posters and then ask for permission. Remember to take your tape, tacks etc. along with you so you can put it up yourself rather than leaving it in the hope that someone else will.

Remember the small posters for in home, at work and community posting. If you have a space to place one or three you can print them by clicking here.

Vocal Improv Workshop: SONG LINES AND SINGING RIVERS (May 24)

You are invited to come and sing with VoiceWorks facilitator, Margot Johnston and improv vocalist, Julie Froekjaer, at the Yurt in Saanich.

Intention, imagery and vocal improv will be our pathway to greater intimacy with ourselves, Earth and Water, expressed through voice and movement.

We'll begin on Friday evening with breath, vocal and movement warm-up, then start listening for and connecting to the deep vibrations of Earth and the swirling flow of Water. On Saturday we'll go deeper, finding our personal song lines and listening to and amplifying the song lines of the forest. We'll find river language and travel down a human river, supporting each other in song. Collectively, we'll invent, sing, move and connect.

May 24th, 7 to 9:30 pmMay 25th, 10 am to 5 pmPrice: $125.00

WORD OF MOUTH / RECOMMENDATIONS

**************************** QUOTE BREAK *************************

Human beings might have started out believing they walked on a world which sat at the centre of the universe, supported or tormented by gods presiding over various aspects of nature.  Nowadays we have largely given up this anthropocentric view - the view that we are at the centre of a universe organized just for our benefit and that higher beings have nothing better to do than muck about in our affairs.   We have replaced this with a more objective view that puts us on a rather insignificant planet (a 'pale blue dot') circling a rather insignificant star in and otherwise undistinguished galaxy in a universe vast beyond human reckoning.

ONE ON ONE BASS HELP REQUESTED

I just joined GHC this Spring & was wondering if any Bass members would be willing to put in sometime in helping me better understand how to sing my parts. I realize we are having a specific Bass sectional coming up, but I really need some in-depth help (beyond what is done in the sectional). I’m newly retired & therefore can fit anyone’s schedule.

Hopefully, it would just be a one time event, but I’m stuck right now.  I will be attending from now on both Tuesday & Thursday practice, but could use any help.

Thanks so much.

Project Tibet Society presentsA TALK BY NIMA DORJEE (May 23)

We have an opportunity to bring Tibetan refugees, now in rural India, to Victoria, under a brand NEW organising structure now available, through the federal govt,  that means a collective responsibility -- across Victoria -- to bring many Tibetans.  The new structure means that  your level of involvement can be quite varied: give money only, give time regularly, give time only now and then, or give time and money.  And additional good news is that this new structure means we will get tax receipts for the financial contributions.

Please come and hear Nima Dorjee explain the opportunity for Victoria to really make a difference in the lives of these wonderful, displaced people.

JUST FOR FUNA reward of laughter for reading this far

EVE'S PROBLEM

Submitted by Chris Gower-Rees Former GHC & Soundings Tenor

Eve was sitting in a corner in the garden. "Lord, I have a problem."

"What's the problem, Eve?"

"I know that You created me and provided this beautiful garden and all of these wonderful animals, as well as that hilarious comedic snake, but I'm just not happy."

"And why is that Eve?"

"Lord, I am lonely, and I'm sick to death of apples."

"Well, Eve, in that case, I have a solution. I shall create man for you."

"Man? What is that Lord?"

Page 25: CREATE & POST PDF VERSION BEFORE SENDING …  · Web view

"A flawed creature, with many bad traits. He'll lie and be vain; all in all, he'll give you a hard time. But he'll be bigger, faster, and will like to hunt and kill things. I'll create him in such a way that he will satisfy your physical needs. He will be witless, and will revel in childish things like fighting and kicking a ball about. He won't be as smart as you, so he will also need your advice to think properly."

"Sounds great," says Eve, with ironically raised eyebrows, "but what's the catch Lord?"

"Well, you can have him on one condition."

"And what's that Lord?"

"As I said, he'll be proud, arrogant, and self-admiring, so you'll have to let him believe that I made him first. And it will have to be our little secret -- you know -- woman to woman."
