Since 1977 we have been actively involved in the research and development of ventilation and moisture dispersal properties for different fabrics. The fruit of these efforts is the Craft Principle, our way of providing functional training and competition wear that ensures the best body micro climate (the temperature and moisture conditions closest to the body) for optimal performance.

LaYER 1base layer that efficiently transports moisture away from the skin and distributes it on the outside of the garment, where it either evaporates or is passed on to the next layer. for optimal performance and comfort, Craft’s underwear should always be worn underneath your outer layers, regardless of weather conditions.

LaYER 2layer two provides insulation and warmth while transporting moisture and excess heat to the next layer or into the surrounding air. When the thermometer creeps downward, this layer enables you to retain valuable body heat without reducing your freedom of movement.

TEamINg Up fOR ThE 2012 OLYmpICSThe smooth beat of light feet working a treadmill fill the air, rising above and below the steady buzz from the electronic machine. The soft soundscape moves freely around cords, wires, electronic displays and other high-tech devices that crowd the room. A health check up? Not really. Welcome to the latest part of the Mustafa Mohamed and Craft collaboration. A teamwork aimed at developing the world’s best running wear for the 2012 london Olympics.

Craft has spent many years understanding the individual needs of top class athletes. We have studied their movement patterns and body heat zones in order to develop sports clothing with optimal ergonomics and function. One of our closest collaborators in this process is Mustafa Mohamed, the former world-class steeplechaser who has switched to marathon and who aims for success in london 2012.

Research within sports biomechanical engineering, carried out at the Swedish Winter Sports Research Centre (SWSRC) in Östersund, forms the basis for our development process. At SWSRC, we can test our products in a state-of-the-art sports laboratory. here we are able to monitor Mustafa Mohamed’s foot strike and arm swing in order to improve his running technique, prevent injuries and develop clothes featuring cutting-edge ergonomics.

An important part in this process is to monitor Mustafa’s feet movement, which we do by placing 300 sensors on the sole of his feet. The sensors register every foot strike and reveal how Mustafa’s feet move, where most of the pressure is, where friction occurs and so on. This work enables us to develop running socks that, among other things, minimize heat-inducing friction between foot sole and shoe.

These lab tests play significant roles in our development process. however, the au-thentic environment is of course the most important test site for our products. It is on the roads and the streets as well as in the wind, rain and sun that the garments are truly tested. It is there in Mustafa’s natural environment we can see how the cutting lines, seams, ventilation and panels really work together with the running body.

Combining high-tech test equipment and a heavy training load, Mustafa Mohamed and Craft are all set to prepare optimally for the london Olympics.
