+DSS\%LUWKGD\WR8VThe Champaign Park District is pleased to announce that 2011 marks the year in

which parks and recreational services have been oered for Champaign residents

for 100 years! Come celebrate with us by participating in a recreational program, playing tennis in our Tennis Center, watching a movie at the Virginia Theatre, walk-

ing a trail or simply by watching the tulip bulbs emerge announcing that spring has

    arrived.

While it is a challenge to chronicle 100 years of parks and recreational service, we

can summarize by saying your park district is an award winning agency which

embraces Best Practices in our eld and is dedicated to be responsive to residents

in providing excellence in our programs and services.

During the challenging economics of todays world, we have taken major steps

to reduce our costs. Energy consumption through greener technology has been

implemented in most of our facilities, we have joined cooperatives where gas and

electricity prices are negotiated to save dollars and we continually look for ways to

reduce or keep our costs down so that your tax rates maintain stability. A result ofthis is the incorporation of environmental practices in our parks where you will see

native plantings where grass was once mowed, rain gardens to capture and recycle

storm water runo and preventative maintenance projects which answer your

directive To take care of what we have while still responding to new growth areas.

We invite you to comment on our parks and services and share any experiences you

have with your park district sta.

The philosophy behind the youth sports program is to provide

an atmosphere that focuses on fun, opportunity, sportsmanshipand instruction. Sports can play a positive role in our childrens

development, fostering physical skills and emotional maturity.

Our children should have a place where they can have fun par-

ticipating in organized activities in a healthy, safe environment.

We strive to provide quality instruction in the fundamentals

of the sport while emphasizing fun and sportsmanship over

winning. By creating a positive experience for the children we

hope to encourage a lifetime of involvement.

You can help. We need the cooperation and assistance of parents

and coaches to promote and demonstrate these values.
