Cowra Public School played host to a Professional Development course attended by visiting principals, teachers and school consultants this week. Several principals mentioned the lack of noise and the wonderful feeling the school has in relationship to its learning environment and commended the teachers and their teaching strategies to have the students working so well. This highlights the strength of staff and practice at Cowra Public School, in providing the highest quality learning environment, coupled with the outstanding PBL process that we employ at the school. Regards Brad Tom Dear parents Once again the Cowra Public School community has shown the highest level of support towards the school and the projects undertaken. Last week the school hosted a Movie Night that was run with the goal to raise funds for a school with limited means in Vanuatu. Our school was so pleased to see the tremendous response to the night with over 320 children, mums and dads and grandparents enjoying a fantastic evening. The school was able to raise $654 to go towards the purchase of individual solar lighting for students of the school. I would like to thank the community for their on-going support. I would also like to thank the staff and P&C members who attended the evening and assisted with the night. The school is a hive of activity this week with the Learn to Swim Scheme commencing. All children involved have been assessed and have been placed in groups. The children are really enjoying the lessons and are improving with water confidence and stroke correction. The children in Year 6 are moving into the last period of primary schooling and Cowra Public School is very excited to provide a strong transition process to provide a very clear path for the students to enable a comfortable progression to high school. A transition disco was held last night and enjoyed by several students along with the school transition program that has involved science and general lessons still continuing. The Stage 1 tabloid day was a great success on Friday and all students enjoyed the activities. Mrs Myles did a great job organising the day. The P&C will be holding their School Fete meeting at 6.30 this evening prior to the regular meeting starting at 7pm. The Fete meeting is designed to establish a committee to look at next year’s fete and to look at possible ideas for the event. It is hoped that several new parents will become involved in the fete next year as this is the major fundraising event that the school has and new ideas are welcomed. NAIDOC PUBLIC SPEAKING REGIONAL FINALS On Monday, 12 November, Cowra Public School was represented in Dubbo at the Regional finals of the NAIDOC Public Speaking competition by Jaylee Dunn and Jemma Pokoney. The topic for the day was “The History of the Tent Embassy”. Jemma and Jaylee spoke extremely well, developing key points and giving a strong presentation. The girls were given the opportunity to meet Mr Michael Anderson, one of the original founders of the Tent Embassy who spoke about Aboriginal rights, progress made to this point and future directions. Jaylee and Jemma were placed 3rd amongst some very strong competition. The girls were great ambassadors for our school and the experience they brought back with them will see both continue to develop and improve their public speaking performances. The girls would like to thank Mrs Day for coaching them and accompanying them to Dubbo. Well done Jaylee and Jemma

CHRISTMAS RAFFLE Don’t forget to send in your loose change for the P & C Christmas Raffle. The money is going to buy all the goodies that will be placed in the wheelbarrows. There is a prize for the class that collects the most money, so every little bit counts.

CLOTHING POOL The Clothing Pool is in desperate need of good quality uniform items. Girls summer uniforms and boys shirts and pants are in short supply at the moment. If you have any uniforms that would be suitable for the Clothing Pool, please leave them at the front office with your name, phone number and the amount you would like for the uniforms. Alternatively you could contact Lisa Willis (in the canteen) for further information.

CANTEEN ASSISTANCE (URGENT)

Lisa, the canteen manageress is DESPERATELY looking for volunteers to assist in running the canteen this term.

Please consider spending one day a fortnight volunteering. It is a great way to keep in touch with your children and their friends. Volunteer assistance is needed from 9:00a.m. until 2:00p.m. daily OR perhaps 9.00am until 11.00am to make the lunches. Without assistance, Lisa is struggling to make recess and lunch for students. It would be a shame if the canteen had to limit access to food because of lack of volunteers. Pops, nannas, uncles, aunts are all welcome to come along and lend a hand.

MOVIE NIGHT Last Thursday night three hundred and twenty students and parents attended a “Movie Night” featuring Madagascar 3 at Cowra Public School. It was a fantastic night and the school raised $654.00. The P & C raised $800.00 supplying snacks for the movies. A cheque was presented to Mrs Phoebe Gower at the Primary Assembly on Wednesday. Mr Gower is going to Sydney to purchase solar lighting for Malatao School in Vanuatu. This is a very underprivileged school and the solar lighting will make a big difference.

Pictured receiving the cheque are: Emilee Browne (School captain), Brooke Graham, Derwin Le, Nashwa Bakini, Anja Gower, Mila Gower, Phoebe Gower (who organised the movie and donations), Jemma Pokoney (Vice captain)
