At the school the children will also
be completing their preparations for
t h e u p c omi n g Fe s t i v a l O f
International Understanding. This
year the festival is focusing on South
Korea. Our classes have been
investigating and learning about this
unique country and have been
looking at the customs and lifestyles
of the people of South Korea. During
the festival Cowra Public School is
going to participate in the Festival
Parade in the form of a march. The
children will assemble near the pool
and we are asking that they come
wearing a white shirt and blue shorts.
A red sash will be provided . The
children will carry lanterns on a
bamboo pole that has been made
at school. More details will be given
to the children next week.
Another major event will be the
Cowra Public School Fete which is
on Friday, 20 March. We encourage
all parents and community members
to come along to this great night
and have some fun. We are also
hoping that parents will take the
opportunity to assist on the night in
providing some Jazzy Jars, helping
out with a stall or simply giving a
hand to set up. This event is the
P&C’s big event for the year and we
hope everyone will support.
Enjoy the week.
Brad Tom
Dear Parents
I would like to start this week by
congratulating the talented students who
represented the school last week at the
District Swimming Carnival held in
Canowindra. Not only did the children put
100% into their events but what really stood
out on the day was the support our
students showed one another and the
encouragement offered, which was truly
wonderful. Many personal best times were
recorded and several of our students will
now proceed to Western Region being
held in Dubbo on Friday, 6 March. With
many standouts on the day by all students,
Isabella Scammell’s and Mac Webster‘s
result of Age ChampionS needs special
mention.
This week we welcome back Mrs Kilby and
have visiting teachers coming to the
school for some professional learning in the
area of L3. The teachers will have the
opportunity to meet with other class
teachers who are running L3 in their school,
which will enable all staff to look and
review techniques and establish best
practice.
Mr Murray will be away from the school on
Friday. He will attend the AECG Regional
Meeting in Dubbo. Mr Murray is a member
of the Cowra AECG and has been chosen
as the Area delegate.
Next week the school is in for a very hectic
week starting on Tuesday with Stage 2
having the opportunity to view a
collection of artefacts from the NSW
Library. These artefacts link with the current
HSIE unit being reviewed on European
Settlement in Australia. Also on Tuesday we
have a group of students participating in a
Rugby Union Gala Day in Cowra.
Following this, on Wednesday the Boys’
Cricket team will be playing Grenfell in the
first round of PSSA sport for the year. Next,
all of Stage 3 will be participating in the
AFL gala day at the park. Finally, the
school will be sending the swimming
representatives to Dubbo on Friday for the
Western Region Championships. A very
busy week.

BAND CAMP
Last week Anja Gower and Madeleine Mulligan attended the
Department of Education band Camp at Lake Burrendong.
Every day after breakfast the two girls would attend Breathing/Gym
held in the Recreation Hall. This was a great opportunity for the girls as
they got to experience new things that will help them play their
instruments better.
Every day they would be taken by tutors to practise their part of the
pieces they were given. After this everyone would come together and
practise as an orchestra for 6 hours a day.
After lunch everyone would be given a break to do recreational
activities such as archery, 50m slip and slides down a huge hill, rock
climbing, pool games and other activities.
Anja and Madeleine could perform some of their pieces from home to
give them confidence in performing.
The two girls enjoyed this week very much and will both be definitely
be going back next year with hopefully some newcomers!

PSSA SCHOOL TENNIS COMPETITION
On Wednesday, 17 February the Cowra Public School Tennis team played Grenfell Public School at Cowra Tennis Courts.
The team consisted of Isabella Scammell, Nashwa Bakini, Courtney Wright, Jayden J. Brown, Lewis McFarland and Mac Webster.
We first played games of singles, then double and followed by mixed doubles.
In the singles Isabella, Courtney, Nashwa and Jayden won their games while Mac and Lewis went down very narrowly to two very
experienced boys. In the doubles Isabella and Courtney played very well but were narrowly beaten, while Mac and Lewis were also
defeated after playing some very exciting tennis. In the mixed doubles Jayden and Nashwa played their best tennis of the day, but
were narrowly defeated. Courtney and Lewis had lots of energy and had some great rallies but in the end they also went down to a
much more experienced team. Isabella and Mac won their doubles game and displayed great teamwork and talent. The score on
the day ended up Grenfell Public School’s way with a close score at the end of 5-3.
The Cowra Public School team showed great sportsmanship and were very happy when they went to McDonalds afterwards. The
team would like to thank Mrs Hilton for organising the team and Mrs Donna Wright for her assistance on the day.
