Dear Parents/Caregivers,
Welcome to Week 3! I am so pleased to report on how well students
have settled in to their new classes for 2019. In particular, our
Kindergarten students have taken to “big school” like ducks to water,
and it seems like they have been here for months instead of just a few
weeks! Thank you to our Kinder teachers and parents who have
encouraged and prepared the students for this very important transition.
Yesterday the Cowra Guardian visited our school to take the annual
“Captains and Kindies” photo and this will appear in the paper in the
next week so keep your eyes peeled!
Parent Information Nights
Thank you to the large number of parents who turned up to our Stage 1,
2 and 3 Parent Information Evening last Thursday and our Kindergarten
Parent Information Night held last night. It was wonderful to see such a
strong turn-out and we look forward to continuing to build on our home-
school partnerships with all CPS families.
Learning Support Plans (LSP’s) and Personalised Learning Pathways
(PLP’s)
One important element in building home-school relationships is the
development of a Learning Support Plan (LSP) for students requiring
additional support in the classroom or a Personalised Learning Pathway
(PLP) for all of our Aboriginal students. These plans are a mandatory
requirement and provide students an opportunity to talk with their
teacher and their parent and together, develop learning goals for the
year ahead. If your child requires either a PLP or LSP, you will receive a
note from their teacher requesting an interview. The dates for PLP’s and
LSP’s are as follows;
Children not requiring a LSP or PLP will have an opportunity to meet with
their parent and teacher in a few weeks’ time – dates are currently
being finalised and will be communicated to parents as soon as
possible. Thank you to the teachers for their time and effort in preparing
and hosting these important meetings.

Scripture
On Wednesday, our Scripture program started
for 2019 and I thank the large number of
dedicated Scripture teachers for their effort
and time in instructing our students. We are
very grateful for their continued support of our
school.
P&C Meeting
A reminder that our first P&C Meeting for 2019
will be held next Wednesday 20th February in
the school staffroom starting at 6:00pm. All
parents are welcome to attend.
Swimming Carnival
Tomorrow is our School Swimming Carnival! The
weather is predicted to be sunny skies with an
expected top of 32 degrees! Miss Dunk has
been working hard behind the scenes to get
everything ready for what is sure to be another
fantastic event on the calendar! Parents and
family members are encouraged to come
along and cheer our students on. Please
remember to slip, slop, slap…we look forward to
seeing everyone dressed in their House colours!
Farewell Mrs Long
Tomorrow is Mrs Trisha Long’s last day at Cowra
Public School. As many of you know by now,
Mrs Long will be leaving CPS to take on a new
position as the “Learning and Wellbeing
Officer” at Queanbeyan Education Office. Mrs
Long’s involvement with Cowra PS has
extended over many years as a parent, an
SLSO, a member of the P&C and, most recently,
as our Learning and Support Teacher and her
passion for assisting every student to reach their
full potential is outstanding. I have had many
parents express to me their gratitude for the
work that Mrs Long has done in our school and I
know I speak on behalf of our entire school
community when I say that she will be missed!
We wish her all the very best in her new position
and know that Cowra Public’s loss is
Queanbeyan’s gain!
New Students and Families “Welcome Morning
Tea”
All Year 1-6 students who are new to Cowra
Public this year are invited, along with their
families, to a special morning tea next Tuesday
19th February from 10:15am-11:00am in the
school staffroom. This is a great opportunity for
new families to meet each other and become
a little more familiar with our school. All students
are encouraged to invite a ‘new’ friend to
come along so keep an eye out for a special
invitation this week!
Week 3 Assemblies!
Just a reminder that our first school assemblies
for 2019 will be held this week. Primary assembly
was held today and it was wonderful to see
such a large turnout of parents, families and
friends! Infants Assembly will be held tomorrow
from 2:00-3:00pm in the Hall. We hope to see
lots of families there!
Have a great week…..

STAGE 2 NEWS:
As with all of our classes at Cowra Public School, Stage 2 students and teachers are
working hard now that the school year has really begun!
Our Stage 2 classes are very settled and it is great to see so many students on task and
engaged with their learning. Year 3 have coped with the adjustment to Primary very well
and have settled into the 'big school' with ease. We are all getting very excited about
our first Assembly today and the annual school Swimming Carnival on Friday!!
Maths groups began this week along with choir, band, dance and homework and re-
corder lessons will commence next week.
Homework:
Please note that homework is given out on Mondays and is to be returned to school on
Fridays. Each child should spend approximately 10 minutes on their homework which in-
volves a timed oral reading activity (ORF) taking 2 minutes and Look Say Cover Write
Check of unknown spelling words. Some numeracy homework may be set as students
settle into their Maths groups. The additional activities ( chore to be done at home, some
physical activity and recording of some reading done that day) noted on the Homework
sheet are not included in the 10 minutes homework time and are to be ticked off once
completed. If parents have any questions regarding homework or any other issues,
please contact your child's teacher at your convenience.
Kind Regards,
Mrs Duncan (Assistant Principal Stg 2) Mrs Cobcroft, , Mr Garlick, Miss Noal and Miss Uren (Stg2 class teachers)
