In the past the man has been first; in the future the system must be first.Frederick Winslow Taylor

Management is a key aspect of human activity. It is the cluster of different tasks roles

and responsibilities that help people !ork together more effectively to achieve thoseends. "he most important management priorities include# achieving things through

people delivering a satisfactory level of return on inputs ma$imi%ing the use ofresources understanding and operating !ithin the constraints of the environment and

coping !ith change and uncertainty. &ll managerial capability and e$pertise is driven bythese priorities.

"he foundations of managerial e$pertise are dealt !ith the development of criticalthinking 'udgment and decision making. "his foundation of management lies on four

pillars namely( planning organi%ing directing and controlling. )ut the scope of

management is not limited to these four principles. "he available literature on doctrinesof management enshrined in the ancient scriptures is very scanty and scattered. "his

necessitates detailed and meticulous deliberations on the issue. It further re*uires

inculcation of a value system conducive for promoting the kno!ledge in the area offoundations of management.

"he proposed seminar provides a survey of classic management thought. "he goal is to

investigate the research !orks and classics !hose frame!orks and philosophies haveshaped management theory and practice. It !ill also e$plore the impact of these !orks on

decision making in organi%ations. +articipants !ill become familiar !ith the content and

perspective of some of the most dynamic concepts in management. "his !ill enhancetheir ability to think conceptually about ho! to understand and frame issues and

problems facing organi%ations. "his seminar thus provides a valuable foundation for

future research and teaching.
